Was it ever determined that the shield can be left off? Perhaps with just some magnet keys or something that would show?

Based on the limited videos out there, I think it has to be there (which is why I am not ordering it).

My assumption too, I'd love to be wrong... I'm not ordering for the same reason but I would with a switch out. No interest in the forced shield (assuming it is)...

This statue represents one of my all-time favorite moments from the MCU movies so it's not a deal breaker for me, but it at the very least the Deluxe Edition should have came with a switch out arm to go with the unmasked portrait.
I would have even substituted one of the masked portraits for it if I had the choice.

Was this the 1/4 spiderman that had the early pre-order bonus price of around $600? Or was it the Iron Spider endgame w/ gauntlet that had that special pricing?

Yes it was this one, had a special preorder discount for the first week I think.
