Moon was one of my favorite films from 2009. A cool and engaging story made even better by Sam Rockwell's amazing performance, which IMO was deserving of an Oscar nomination. I highly recommend it.

I went to Fry's on friday and picked this up, the guy paying next to me got excited when he saw I was buying the movie told me he loved this movie. I told him it was on sale for $10.99, he finished paying and said he was going back in to pick it up, couldn't pass it up for this price. :laugh:

Only way I would pick this up, is if it was $20, and even then I'd have to think about it. They should have just released the extended editions with the theatrical version included, this release is just a cash grab.

I honestly don't think I'd take that set for free. As long as the EEs are out there I see no reason to revisit the theatrical editions myself. For me content will always supersede superior PQ and AQ.

The EE's are the definitive editions, and more than likely the only ones I will ever revisit. I do think the theatrical versions have their place though, they are the ones that earned acclaim, and they're the ones the general public thinks about when the films are mentioned. I think you're right though, and "free" is the only way I would get them in Blu-Ray. They should just be included through seamless branching on the EE's, for "free".

You're totally right, and the funny thing is that when it went up intially, I told myself that I would wait until after it's released. Especially until I see reviews on PQ and AQ, I had also figured it would drop not long after release with the holiday sales. As soon as I saw the price drop today and I figured it worked out to $16 and change a film, I caved and ordered. I'm weak, I know! :D

Yeah I refuse to shop @ DD anymore because they jack prices up right before a sale and are rarely ever competitively priced anymore. Amazon uses this tactic from time to time too but its nowhere near as egregious as DD.

Back in the early days of DVD I used DD to build my collection, all of a sudden they raised there prices and I stopped buying from them. Not to mention they screwed up a couple of my orders. I check them out every once in a while, but they can't seem to compete with Amazon, I pretty much just buy everything from them.

Barnes and Noble is having their Criterion sale right now, everything is half off, and free shipping if you spend more than $25. I'm probably going to pick up a couple of titles.

You know, the truth is, if I didn't have as many movies on DVD as I do, I probably wouldn't be looking for so many bargains. It's just that I told myself I would limit the double dips to almost none, and I would no longer blind buy. I'm only double dipping on my top catalog titles, ones I tend to watch over and over, and even then I'm waiting for ultra low prices most of the time. Basically I won't pay over $20 for new releases and I won't pay over $15 for catalog titles. It's been pretty easy lately, I've been finding catalog titles for $10 pretty frequently on Amazon. Most new releases will be at $20 within a couple of months of release, or on release if it's a blockbuster type film. Patience is a virtue!

Yes some do, especially catalog titles, but most "new releases" take a bit longer than that. I have 4 pages of titles saved in my amazon cart and check daily for price drops. There are a few titles that just refuse to drop to what I consider acceptable purchase prices. :banghead: Patience is key.

Basically I won't pay over $20 for new releases and I won't pay over $15 for catalog titles.

From time to time I do but only when I find a deal worth the trip. Good place for electronics deals though. Bough both my TV and my girlfriends there.

I'd be interested in Blair Witch, although I wonder what it will look like on BR. I'd love to get Anchorman, but I'll wait for it to go a bit cheaper. Hard Candy is great! Yeah definitely some good titles in there.

I'm down for Blair Witch IF it has the Sci-Fi Channel documentary attached like the SDVD did. IMO the documentary coupled with the actual film elevates the whole experience immensely.

High Tension is another one I'd like but I need to do a bit of research on this release to see what version this will be and if it will come with the original French dialogue.

Anchorman would be nice too but not at that price.

Deep Blue Sea is kind of a guilty pleasure film but I don't think I'd drop more than $10 on it.

I saw this in the theater at the L.A. film festival years ago before it was released here. It was in french and was very graphic, so I'll assume it was the original french cut. Hopefully that's what they release on BR.

I'm totally done with the BS extras they usually put on these things, and for other movies I will probably just get the bare bones disc. This one has an alternate opening, some deleted scenes that might be cool and some illustrated character histories for Nick Fury, Black Widow and War Machine. I'd like to check those out, but I'm not in any rush to do so, I'll just wait for the price drop. But as far as most other movies go, give me the cheapest deal and I'll take it.

No not at all. At least not since I've made the switch to HD.

I was however tempted the other day by the Thundarr the Barbarian complete series box set the the WBShop exclusively has. It was one of my favorite cartoon series as a kid. And like you said with the Six Million Dollar Man I'd be surprised if it ever makes its way to BD. Plus with Thundarr being made to order its probably going to be pretty limited. I'm really leaning towards picking it up. If I do it will be my first DVD purchase in years.

Well their stuff is all legit however a lot of the releases are the Canadian versions. So you'll see a lot of stuff that doesn't either exist or isn't out in the states yet. The Blade Trilogy is one that comes to mind off the top of my head. If I'm interested in one of those Canadian titles I try and do some research on the transfer as some are questionable. Plus a lot of the box art has French writing on them so if thats something thats off putting for you I'd advise against ordering them. They're usually up front if the title(s) is Canadian though and that info can be found in the description. They also sell used titles too, though the few times I ordered what they called "used" they were in fact new sealed BDs.

Ahhh, that makes sense. I used to get some of the Alliance releases of stuff from Canada, before they were released here stateside. Mostly Miramax stuff if I recall. I will just wait for those to be released here, many times the transfers are done better by the domestic studio, not to mention better extras. Blade Trilogy and Scream Trilogy would be nice to have though. :D

Amazon had Star Trek Original Series on BD, seasons 1-3, for prices ranging from $29-$45. I didnt get 'em and had to pay more later. Trouble is, it was never advertised.

Yeah I hear ya Tony. DOTD is one of my all time favorite horror films. Though I did buy it on BD immediately after purchasing my player that Special Edition DVD with all the cuts of the film is really one of the best DVD sets out there. Its one of the few standard DVDs I've held onto in my transition to Blu.

Okay I did a little bit of research on the Alien Anthology Blu-ray set for those interested.

The films are in fact Region Free so those of you in the US that don't feel like paying an extra $30 for the US packaging should probably order the UK set. I just ordered it myself. Total with shipping came out to $57.28 as opposed to the $89.99 it costs in the US. Basically FOX is bending us over here in the states. These prices are taken from amazon.com and amazon.co.uk.

Like I stated above the only difference is the cosmetic appearance and construction of the packaging. The UK set folds out and has plastic holders for the discs while the US version is a book style with the discs stored in sleeves. I'm sure opinions will vary as to which is superior but I prefer the fold out UK set myself. The US book format is pretty nice but I really hate having my discs stored in sleeves. Just a personal preference really.

Posted below are pics of both sets that I found off other sites so you be the judge. Hope this info helps those interested in this set. Personally I'm pretty thrilled to be getting this set for under $60 shipped from the UK.
