A while back one of the paint masters I can't recall who posted some pics from a show and one of the pics was of a painted Absorbing man kit. Does anyone have this pic or any other pics of this kit painted? Any pics of this kit painted would help me, it doesn't have to be the one I described. I bought one and was under the impression it came with a base.
Is this common for a statue to come with no base? I'm new to this so bare with me.
Thanks

Dizneeguy posted a pic from a kit he painted up, so I'm thinking this is the one you are referring to. I'm almost sure it had a base, but you can try PMing him just to be sure.

That's the first time I've seen that picture, but damn that's a cool kit! I think the ones I've seen before had different bases, so I'm wondering if the kit comes with just the figure and if the base was an added customization.

Kit comes with no base. You have to have someone customize one.

Damn Odin you're the man brother!!! :buttrock: That's the exact pic I was talking about. I just bought the kit and found out the hard way that it has no base so between building, painting and a custom base this is an expensive kit when all the smoke clears.
Thanks again Lord Odin
If anyone else has pics please post them.

most statues do not have bases in the kit world. more are recently but it is not a mandatory thing to do. I've seen the koma absorbing man in person and he can stand in a gale force wind big ol legs and feet on him.

From looking at his front leg it looks like you have to make a base for him. His foot has a peg like the Bowen Hulk. He won't stand without some kind of base.

Thats the one thing that puts me off some kits is the lack of base. It wouldn't be a huge thing for the kit makers to produce a decent base and i think they would sell more of these pieces as in many cases the sculpt is superior to some of the mass produced statues.

Dizneeguy within the last week had that kit on his ebay auctions and it has already sold. Paint looked excellent and the sculpt :buttrock:

I feel your pain general, the reason why I try and stay away from these kits is the $$$$ amount involved. You have to have $$$ OR REALLY LOVE THE CHARACTER TO GET THESE DONE RIGHT. The base that was featured by lord odin rocked and to get one of these will cost $$$$, you may want to check in with abe he can sculpt one of these also. The only thing I see is that when or if bowen makes a full size these will be less in demand and to sell it would be a huge lose after the paint and customizing of the sculpt.

well one thing you can do is instead of paying to have them painted you could maybe trade something that the painter wants.

General,
This does seem to be a common complaint among builders, especially those new to the kitbuilding 'game'. We usually do a generic wooden base with a special finish/covering when we list items on Ebay but for clients outside the auction arena we do elaborate bases as requested similar to the photo of the piece taken at Wonderfest. That was an AWESOME rendering of that character!! Beautiful!!
