View Full Version : i need help with sculpey and silicone!

can anyone tell me if i can put silicone molding rubber straight onto cooked sculpey, or do i need to use a release agent, im new to molding so i have no idea if it will ruin my sculpt, any help would be great thanks!

It's always a good idea to use a release agent.

what release agent works well with sculpey? and any ideas about release agents for chavant and wax?

Any of the Chavant NSPs and wax's don't requires release agents with silicone... they will come out clean.
At least they do with Smooth-On silicones.

Any silicone rubber that is made for mold making will not stick to your work
the danger is really when you are pouring/injecting silicone rubber onto more rubber, as in with 2 part molds. THATS when rubber, which refuses to stick to almost anything, will decide to stick to other rubber.

I never use release on the work itself but i use vaseline on the rubber itself when i make 2 part molds. The only time I've ever used release is when IO'm working with Urethane Rubbers, which will stick to almost anything, then its normally a case of shellac, then a release wax, buffed and then sprayed with something like Jwax.
