Quite a while since I updated, huh? I've been running through some classic reviews on my site since I've been all traveling all over lately.

Now, this isn't one that comic fans will necessarily be interested in since it's anime-styled, but I think it'll certainly interest some!

I saw this statue previewed on some website ages ago and it looked gorgeous. Vocaloid designs in general are pretty interesting and this sci-fi battle ready theme did it for me. Having no actual interest in Vocaloids, it was tough for me to get up the urge to buy it. Especially with the high price and somewhat small size, it’s 1/8th scale and $150~ at retail. But those sweet clearance deals, they have a way of causing the wallet to fly open, so let’s check out the Max Factory Miku Hatsune vn02 statue.

As mentioned, I love the sci-fi look. The green, black, and white come together to form a great contrast. Without being told that she’s from some singing game, you’d think she was from some action adventure space deal. She’s not the only Vocaloid that’s given a rather unique look, Black Rock Shooter came from it as well and that’s turned into a huge franchise completely unrelated to singing.

The paintwork is exceptional. Colours are appropriately matte or shiny where it’s intended. The detail work is top notch and I found no paint drips. Take a look at the sleeves and the hair as both fade out to reveal clear areas, that’s a top quality touch right there and the effect adds to the sci-fi future feel.

The sculpting is another area that I love. All the little additions to her armour, her hair cube things, it gives her suit a future armour feel. The face and body sculpts, the energy wave thing, her hair, it has a flow to it that makes this statue feel alive and in motion.

As you’ll notice from the last picture, there is a separation between the front of the hair and the rest. It doesn’t bother me but it may bother other people who hate such seams. The statue is somewhat small and I do wish it were bigger. While it takes up a fair amount of space simply due to it’s pose, a 1/6th version of this would’ve been far better and had less people complaining, even with a significantly higher price.

5/5. Having received it in person, would I have paid full price? Sure. I’m glad I didn’t though because I loves me some savings. I can understand why people feel it might not be worth the money but it’s a gorgeous piece of statue art.

She does look awesome and vibrant. Like the way the statue "flows" and your right, it does bring it to "life".
