View Full Version : Can't decide on Psylocke sketch pose

I'm having a Psylocke commission done, and the artist has given me an option on the pose.

The way he described the concepts are as follows:

The concept behind the left Psylocke....she just defeated you and you're looking up at her. The pose is more at rest.

The right Psylocke is in an action pose. She's mid leap in the air ready to punch you with her psychic knife.

Which pose would you go for? I like both for different reasons, but can't make up my mind.

I usually like action poses, but in this case I like the first one better. I think that will look pretty bad ass.

I actually feel the same way. The action pose is almost a no-brainer, but there's something about Psylocke looking down at you, after kicking your ass. I like that quite a bit. :D

As the lone dissenter, I prefer the use of space and the flow in the one on the right.

And you'd be right! I really like that one as well, I wish I could get both. :(

The first pose looks cool.

The second one could be 'epic' if executed right. The first could only ever be 'great'.

I vote for the action one on the right.

I vote for the second, action piece. Can't wait to see this... may I ask who the artist is?

I think this vote depends on how well faces are executed. Is the artist great at doing, "I just beat your ass" faces or more of the "screaming as I lunge" face??

That being said I like the second pose because the action and flow of it.

This is a tough choice because if the artist is really great at "just kicked your ass, now stay down Bazinga!Bazinga!Bazinga!Bazinga!Bazinga!" faces, then I would pick the first pose *LOL*

IMO...there's something real sexxxy bout a dominating woman standing over you...saying that though...It would be real cool to add a weapon in her right hand and have it pointing dead at ur POV...does she carry weapons?

Thanks for the input guys! I must say that you're not making my decision any easier, all are valid points that are being made.

The artist's name is Edward Pun.

Here is a link to his Deviantart gallery:

He has two different styles of art, a very strong line art type and a more painterly style. For this one I chose to go the more painterly route. He did a piece featuring The Baroness from G.I. Joe, which you can see in his gallery, that's more or less the style he'll use on Psylocke.

your money but I never understand fully digital commissions.. digital coloring yes but to own a JPG file to me is not collecting art but to each their own I guess...

Yeah, I'm definitely in the minority here. It's my 1st digital commission, we'll see how it goes. :)

Like the look of the action pose better.

The second pose is my pick. The first one walks a bit too close to the fanservice line for me. The second feels more in character.

As for digital commissions...depends purely on the artist in question. If the work is good, the format doesn't matter in the least. The Black Cat of Batman & Sons fame works in digital, and her work is well worth it.

I would go with the second pose, there's just so much potential here.

I weigh in with my opinion of liking the first one better. This is based upon the prelim sketch and pose. I like how the body and limbs are laid out better than in the action pose. Something about the angling of the limbs (arms, legs) make the first one look a little cleaner and smoother to me.
