I'm a huge Dredd fan (uh-oh... :p), and have been for more years than I care to admit, so PCS doing Dredd is fantastic news as far as I'm concerned. And I do hope this piece is popular enough to warrant both Death and Anderson also being made.

But to be brutally honest I'm not really feeling the lawgiver on this, seems a bit too exagerated, particularly the size of the dial, which should be about half as tall as it is here.

I mean different artists do things different ways, of course, so there's usually the odd design flare here and there, and such is to be expected, but to me, as a fan, visually that one just seems off a bit, and was the first thing my eye was drawn to.

Here's what the mark 1 Lawgiver traditionally looks like:

http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa300/SledgeHammer_/lawgiver1.jpg

And another look at it:

http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa300/SledgeHammer_/995.jpg

And here's the mark 2 version:

http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa300/SledgeHammer_/lawgiverbrashillmurray.jpg

and again:

http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa300/SledgeHammer_/lawgiverprint.jpg

If this statue had a gun that looked closer to the core design of either of these I'd personally be a lot happier with the piece overall. Just my opinion anyhow. :)

Gotta say though, I love the basic pose, and looks like you nailed the head sculpt, particularly in terms of attitude, but Dredd's proportions on his limbs also seem like they might be just a touch out to me, however that may well just be the angle playing tricks, and I'm willing to give the benefit of any doubt on that one.

But apart from the gun, I love this piece, even if it is an interesting mix of a more modern era looking Dredd holding a more vintage Dredd era lawgiver (or interpretation of onea anyhow), and I'm sure I'll be ordering this when it hits. And there is definitely plenty of room for a definitive Dredd statue in the marketplace. The only one that I have previously liked was the Dredd vs Death piece a couple years back. Most of the other Dredd statues over the years have been pretty cheaply made and a bit lacking in detail, character and attitude.

This is old-school Dredd, no stallone in him (which if u'd read the comic u'd see is a good thing :p - was good movie but not a Dredd movie). I even had that alien/dredd 1:2 bust by First4Figures ordered cuz I needed some dredd fix, and was dissapointed when it got cancelled. The only decent thing released so far is the Mega Heroes '96 12" dredd statue, which you've topped, thx for making me replace an old statue :|

Yeah IMO the lawgiver is the only thing that looks outdated by today's (fantasy :p) standards, but that is classic Dredd.

And yes Jerry, even if you don't pursue the line (plz do cuz there's cool chars / "bosses"), at least do a Judge death. Every "hero" needs their villian. Smash all those average kits out there

I don't think it's outdated I just don't consider it the 'classic version' of the Lawgiver. It's too fat and short. Give me the MK I version every day of the week.

I'd love a Judge Cal complete with Judge Fish as the Ex, possibilities are endless.

What the hell are you doing Jerry....... Ticket to empty my bank account :D

It's wierd, I just dug out an old 2000ad annual from 92 the other day! Would love him, Death and Anderson, and I promised myself I wouldnt start any more lines. Like SF, Dredd was a MASSIVE part of my child hood, so it would be rude not to!

Have you got the Dredd Licence then or is it a 2000ad licence? Would love a few others, especially Friday!

And for the Dredd EX, why don't you go the way the same way as the action figure..... removable helmet with blank plastic and no face underneath :D

*EDIT* Oh and in relation to the lawgiver etc, I would say its perfect as is. The only thing I would change is the left shoulder pad, I would beef it up a bit.

Just mocked up a pic with some colour to display the beefed up shoulder. Also, when adding the colour noticed that the red rim on the helmet seemed a little small? Made that a bit bigger. Only other thing I would change is having the boot a tiny bit smaller height wize to show the slight gap between boot and kneepad :D

Yay!! I have been a huge fan of Judge Dredd since the 1970s. I will definitely be ordering Dredd, Anderson and any other statues in this line.

I don't mind the exaggerated design on the Lawgiver, as it did vary from comic to comic.

The less Stallone-inspired the design is, the better from my point of view. Comic Dredd all the way.

Mixed Media would make this Statue legendary. But as is it is still a Great statue and the pose is fine. I do agree that a "Museum" or Definitive version of Dredd should be done in 1/4 PF by PCS. Me thinks him standing there holding his lawgiver vertically would make an awesome pose. Any other suggestions?

That's a good question. Personally I'd love to see a Rogue Trooper made to go along with the possible Judge Anderson and Judge Death pieces, just for starters. If it does happen to be a complete 2000AD license, and Judge Dredd sells well enough to proceed, that is.

The ABC Robots, Slaine, Durham Red, Johnny Alpha/Strontium Dog, Judge Hershey, Halo Jones, Nikoli Dante, Sinister & Dexter, Friday, Venus Bluegenes, and of course the other Dark Judges - Judge Fear, Judge Fire, and Judge Mortis would all be very welcome additions too.

Gotta say, as someone with over 1700 2000AD progs (I'm only about 14 issues away from a full up-to-date set) and who has been collecting for longer than I care to remember, I'm very surprised that more folks aren't asking for changes to the gun, but oh well...

I know of these characters.

The problem with 2000AD is they don't say if there TPBs are in full color.

If you know any Strontium Dog or Rogue Trooper TPB's that are in full color please let me know.

I have not asked for changes to the gun because it's only a WIP. The shoulder pad also needs to be larger again it's only a WIP. These changes to the WIP has to happen because I'm not buying something that is not comic book accurate.

Yeah but isn't now the perfect time to point out these things and ask for such changes, while it's still a work in progress? Once it progresses past this stage changes become more difficult to implement, and thus less likely to happen. Just saying. :)

As for the Strontium Dog and Rogue Trooper tpbs, sorry, can't really help you. As someone who collected (and still collects) the original progs, I never had any need of the tpb editions myself.

However you do realise, don't you, that apart from usually a lone two-page spash in a single story of each issue (usually a Dredd story), and maybe the occasional pin up, that outside of the covers and some ads that 2000AD was a black and white book for a great many years? For example, for a long time a lot of people didn't seem to even realise that Rogue Trooper was in fact meant to be blue, which is understandable if they missed that very first cover appearance of the character.

By the very late 80's they started doing the Dredd strips in full colour (and occasionally Slaine as well), but the rest of the book and stories were still in black and white, even then. Eventually more strips were done in full colour, and the book had about an equal mix of the two, then colour started to dominate, and by the early 90's 2000 AD had made the transition and finally became a full colour book, with only certain stories/characters still appearing in black and white for artistic reasons.

Point being, I doubt they have ever bothered to (re)colour any of the earlier b+w stories from the 70's through to the start of the 90's. As such I'm not even sure offhand if any of the original Johnny Alpha Strontium Dog stories were even done in colour, as that series wrapped up late 80's/start on the 90's. Likewise, I'm not sure the original run and version of Rogue Trooper got very many (if any) colour stories either, and from memory thathad basically wrapped up by the start of the 90's as well. Although there were other versions, spinoffs, flashbacks and so on made after that for both charaters in the pages of 2000 AD, of course, and these were all done in full colour just as everything else in the book commonly has been from that early 90's point onwards.

Just some food for thought. :)

I did not know there was so many years in black and white on the magazine. Thanks for the info.

I do know Rogue Trooper is blue. :)

You are correct that flaws should be pointed out while it's still a WIP so it can be corrected. So many times when it has been pointed out by people the company don't do anything about it Sidehsow's Neytiri maquette is a good example.

So I don't bother pointing out the flaws anymore no matter what company. I post if I like it or not when the time comes to pre-order, if I like I will order it, if not money saved.

Still can't believe we're getting a 1:4 Judge Dredd. That is sweet. I always wanted this. Nice work Jerry, nice! buy yourself a beer, my shout and i'll pay you back sometime :p. Yous were talking about mixed media. I'd love to see it done. This piece would look insane as mixed media.. but I understand the costs would be too much, and then with the material it is a bit like a make it or break it deal.. like on a golf course you can take the long (triumph for victory) shot you have 20% of making, or your good (safe) shot you have 99% of making

I am not sure if it has to do with the paint or what, but if you can make the "leather" look like sideshows 1:4 black panther then we're sweet

Posted earlier in the thread:

Im a fan of Judge Dredd and thats why I took the license. I didnt even know about the new movie when I contacted them.

Id like to do Judge Death and Judge Anderson if sales are good.

I just think the character(s) deserve better than what has been released so far.

I'd buy all three. But hell, I'm such a Dredd geek that I'd buy Walter the Wobot, Fink Angel (and Ratty), Mean Machine Angel, Judge Giant, Judge Hershey and so on as well...and I'd still love to see other 2000AD characters like Rogue Trooper and Johnny Alpha as well. A geek can dream.

Thanks, I weigh just under 12st for the most part of the day.

I just train 6 days a week, and bust my ass in the gym. Eat carbs in and around training time, and just keep a healthy diet. Not to mention, I dont drink or smoke. Diet Pepsi, Pepsi Max, or Coke Zero. Either one really. There's a huge debate over whether regular coke/pepsi is actually healthier than diet cokes/pepsis, but regardless, I can't stand the sugary taste with regular. Feels like I'm drinking pure sherbet/sugar together. Nasty.

yea.. adding an aesthetic chin is the one exception I think would have worked for the movie.. it would have suited the look/feel.. he just doesn't fill out that helm right

but that's why I'm hoping the boy can act

he and the ppl working on it say there hasn't been a dredd movie made (alluding to the old one not being done right), and they want to do justice and make a dark gritty real dredd movie.. so there's hope.. when there's passion, there's hope..

Without the 6-sided 'Logo base' is a good choice I think, more mature look. Only that small round peg, sticking out of side of the base (below the concrete slab / to close to the head imo) is a bit distracting..

Are both the 'futuristic luger' and the 'german trapjaw corpse' for the EX only?!

I would prefer the corpse for all statues and the other switcharoos for EX. That way I would order one for sure.

Drokkin' fantastic. Love the switch out gun too. Way to please both older school and more modern Dredd fans. Ex base is very cool too.

Very much looking forward to this piece, looks like an absolute must own for Dreddheads like me.

Im hoping to have it up very end of the month but have to see how it goes.

The EX is going to be very expensive as its basically two full 1/4 scale figures in one statue.

My guesstimate right now is $550 for the EX

Nothing is set in stone yet.

Both will be available through Sideshow. ES will be pretty low, maybe 300/125 and price may be $375/550

Seeing the raw sculpt, Dredd is alot bulkier than I first thought with the initial reveal pic. It was the only thing I was concerned about, though i still wanted it.. but now it is the perfect depiction of Judge Dredd for me.. the man deserves a bigger display base than usual - his own shrine.. this will tide me over until the late 2013 (PCS) Judge Dredd 1:2 or 1:3 high-end Dredd :D (nope it is not in the works  )

Thanks for this Jerry.. Dredd is at the very top of my wish-list, and it is even sweeter coming from you guys, to have the franchise done justice.. thanks for giving him such a special base, you must have love for the character

I'm a huge Dredd fan, but that is a mighty pricey EX, even with the featured base. Gonna have to really knock it out of the park as far as paints go on this one to make it worthy of that kind of pricetag. But just so long as you do...

11-05-2011, 10:50 AM
Funny, I had the exact same initial reaction

"I'm a big Dredd fan, but $550??" I have not known any 1/4 produced (comic) piece to be $550..

but then I thought of it in 3d depth.. it is like a 1:4 dio with the 2 1:4 people.. but the second isn't as infamous as Dredd (though it has the benefit of enhancing his presence)

It is pricey but I think it's very cool that it's being done, and they're taking a risk with such a large piece, plus the switch-outs are quite significant as well

but I will say for the price the ES better be low as hell.. perhaps no more than the 125 mentioned.. it may not be set in stone, but let's set it in clay and let it harden up :D

Agreed on the paints, it should be something special

Will I get one if all these things are done right? Yes, count me in -- It's Dredd

Ex-Parrot
11-05-2011, 11:49 AM
Exactly. If it's good enough I'll pay the 'sticker shock' price, just because I'll finally have a truly great Dredd statue in my collection. And if it does turn out truly great I'll do so with no regrets. However at that kind of a price point there is no room for error on this one, it really has to be a 'knock it out of the park' release, at least for me, or else as big a fan as I am, I'd have a hard time justifying spending that much on a 1:4 piece.

Mind you, though Dredd is popular, he's also quite a niche character in many ways (this might well change if the new movie is actually good), particularly as far as being a seller on the high end collectibles market goes, so a higher price for a smaller run are compromises that I can live with, again just so long as the final product is worthy of the character...and so far things are looking mighty good in that regard.

Also if my support of this piece ups the chances of a Judge Death, or a Rogue Trooper, or other key 2000AD characters, then even better.

Will the painted Judg Dredd statue be revealed here first or on pre-order day?

Mighty_Galactus
11-06-2011, 04:07 PM
I definitely see the business logic behind the EX (potential) pricing, but having a 1/4 scale prostrate figure on a base does not add nearly as much to the piece as a standing one IMO....can't really say I would call this a dio....

Too rich for my blood, but the ES sounds just right for something like this... all the Dredd-heads are gonna love this.

It is a great idea that way people know exactly what they will get. Sometimes those professional painters paint stuff so well there is no way someone in a factory can produce it. I believe Randy Bowen did the same thing as Jerry is with his new Spider-Man statue. I for one think its the best move for a producer as the product should mirror the pre-order page exactly.
