Avast is pretty good too.

Complete with Majel Barrett Star trek Computer voice to inform you your virus database has been updated!

I used to have MSE on my PC and was completely happy with it until one day I could not update the virus database anymore (I kept getting error messages). Uninstalling it and installing it back again did not work so I switched to Avast and it was pretty good until one day I noticed that my PC was infected by some malware that Avast never ever noticed.
(I had to use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware to get rid of it).
Nowadays I am using Comodo Internet Security and I am pretty happy with it. It's free, light on resources, has a great built in firewall and has kept my PC safe and sound ever since.
It's really good and I would recommend CIS to everybody.

McAfee is free with my U-verse account. I also use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Spybot for additional weekly scans... they catch a lot of adware and other crap that McAfee misses.

Of course, all of that didn't stop me from having a major issue recently. I picked up "something" that ultimately forced me to reload Windows, but I was able to retrieve my files. Considering I've had this computer for 5 years, that's not too bad.

AVG and it's free.

I used to use this as well. Great one if you don't know much about computer and think you still need virus protection. You could just stop with all the porn as well you freaks :).

trend micro for me.
There is a yearly fee, but can install it on 3 computers before having to purchase another license.
Never had a problem with trend :)

It’s great to have a system that hackers could care less about.

Well is hard to answer to this question, at least for me, because there are a lot of antivirus software out there. However I would say from my own standpoint, that a good antivirus needs to be very light, very complete when it comes to online protection. There are a lot of malware sites that can infect your websites with a lot of viruses and collect your data and files using spyware tools. So I guess there's quite a lot to tell. I've been using the latest version of ZenOK free Antivirus (http://freeantivirus.zenok.com/) and it's working for me.
