This is probably a duplicate thread, so please excuse me, but what has become of the Universal Monsters, I can't even find the previously produced stuff on the SS web site. Did they give up the license?

license is gone

Why did Sideshow take down all the information about the products they already produced, and did another company acquire the license?

It's become more difficult to locate pages of sold out product. So it's not just Universal Monsters.

I really like this line, so I am very disappointed that Sideshow either lost or gave up the license. :(

I don't recall seeing any announcement on the line being cancelled. But more than likely the numbers are not there in the current economy which is a pity for fans of the line.

50 Other companies have the License. Sideshow probly felt that the license wasnt worth it any more, after the last piece. Creature Bust, didnt really sell very well.

Wolf man would have been cool, or Phantom, or Invisible MAn!

I believe there was a fallout between the estates (Karloff/Lugosi) and Sideshow.

Invisible Man would be an easy bust to sculpt :D

They already sculpted one. Then they couldn't find it when it was time to mold.

In my opinion the only other company out there right now that is capable of maintaining or surpassing the quality of the Sideshow offerings at a reasonable price is Pop Culture Shock. I would love to see what they could do with this license.

I was hoping for a LS Wolfman & Mummy bust to finish my collection. Alas, it will never be.

I have the Creature bust and it is not that great. Compared to Frankenstein and Dracula it has a very cheap feel to it. For the price the eyes could have been better.

Now that we have been introduced to the legendary scale line, maybe we will see a return of the Universal Monsters in legendary scale, that would be so sweet. I doubt it will happen, but if they don't bring back this line, I am going to be forced down the very expensive custom road. Ouch!!!

Forced?:sly2:

Compelled may have been a better choice of words, but when I think about a large scale Frankenstein in my collection. It does feel like I am being compelled beyond a reasonable expectation too resist the urge. It's not quite force, it's more of an addiction to continually add more to my collection.

I heard this too. Some dispute over money/percentages during contract (extension? renewal?) negotiations.

But to be honest I have no idea how much truth there is to that, although the sudden influx of other licensees soon after means one can't help but wonder...

If that is the case, hopefully they will find some common ground, and push forward. After seeing the pictures of the translucent resin used on the Obi Wan legendary scale figure, I imagine they could bring a realism to the monsters that would surpass what was done in the quarter scale line. That is high praise coming from me, because I absolutely love the quarter scale stuff they produced under that license. Frankenstein would be my first choice, but the Mummy and casket would be an absolute must have in half scale as well.

Not sure what Nosferatu has to do with Universal Monsters, but the piece turned out great. Congats. And thanks for the pics.

I'm still hoping they do a black and white version one day...

The hands look awesome! Nosferatu is usually clustered with the Uni Monsters, though he technically isn't one. Classic horror was the best IMHO.

Nothing technical about it, he's no more a Universal Monster than Maria from Metropolis is.

Regardless, it's a great looking piece. :)
