Arrived at the show at just after 7 a.m. and was about 15th in line. A little brisk out there with the wind but not too bad anc chatted with several guys in line about who was coming and waiting in more lines once we got into the show.

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y66/gomalley/boston2011019.jpg

Doors opened at 10 sharp and we made out way obtaining out wristbands (they could have come out and taken our tickets early and given out wristbands) but maybe they will learn that lesson. Hit the artist area and got on one list but did not make the Adam Hughes' list (not that I would have been picked anyway).....but I did score a few things from AH! (see below).

Made my way to several of the artits (did not bother with JSC or Quitely...lines were too long). I always wanted to try and get a jam piece and was able to get it going with Tim Sale Batman followed by Adam Hughes Catwoman, then onto Matt Wagner for Two-Face, then Art Adams for Clay-Face.....then waited for Greg Capullo who was a really nice guy for a quick Batman and some good conversation...onto Darwyn Cooke (who was not sketching :( but did do a nice Catwoman for me)...next up was JG Jones who did a killer joker (painted in color)....last was Jack Purcell who did a really nice Batman.

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y66/gomalley/boston2011037.jpg

In-between I was checking out tables looking for books and statues. I made several inquiries and did see a few killer books but did not make any deals of note. Teddy at Superworld had some really nice books including what looked to be a VF Superman #76 (bit had water damage on the bc)....Ted also told me that he sold prior to the show opening a FF #1 cgc 7.0 for $18K as well as a DD #1 (grade unknown and not sure for how much)..saw some killer original art at Moy/Bechera's area...some Steranko artwork, great covers and I believe the OA to FF #72...I did not ask about it so I assumed it was the original cover.
Said hi to Andy at Golden Age and Bob at Highgrade (and comicartfan..hi Mike). headed over to the cgc guys and dropped off a few books for SS.

Saw fellow board member pmpknface (Jamie) grabbing several signatures from writers/artists....hi jamie!

more in next post....

Here are a few pics of the folks that were dressed up (I did not bother wasting my time taking pics of the numerous folks who should not have dressed up let alone left their house).

In addition to the Batman themed jam, I also got this done on an ASM #36....Tim Sale (Spidey), Adam Hughes (Black Cat) and Matt Wagner (Vulture).

Here are a few shots of the artists at work and a few of AH! signing a few statue bases and prints....

Show was alot of fun and I did pick up a few other goodies and will post those soon. Not going back tomorrow..might try and get in 18. It is a job waiting in lines and lugging around a bag all day.

Show was well attended and did not too many problems...Plenty of room to move around. Oh I alos did not get in the Neal Adams line after I was told he would charge $50+ for a quick head sketch for the Batman jam......no thanks Neal.

Hope everyone had a fun time! :)

How much did each artist ask for to include on the jam?

J Scott....fuggetaboutit....

Quitely....long

Neal Adams..was like 10-20 all day it seemed.

Everyone else was not bad at all..you could walk right up to Adam Hughes after his sketch list was filled. Art Adams did not have a big line, Darwyn Cook either.

a few more goodies from the show.....got this print from Greg Capullo. He gave one to everyone that he met at his table (went up to 200). He signed each one.

Also got Adam Hughes to put his AH! on this poster...

I hope you got something from Art.

You want to throw up? I forgot he was there... I wil tell you the whole story - but Art was in a different section from most of the artists - he was near Cambell and I stayed out of that area because it was a mad house. I walked in for a minute to say hi to Kubert - who was not sketching and then I scooted out. By the time someone reminded me Art was there, he was gone. I was kicking myself... hard - for fudging that one up.

John wouldn't describe himself as "famous" but Ken Martin and I (and probably a few others here) would certainly refer to him as well known :)

Guaranteed if you mentioned John's name to almost any artist, they will know him. When I first met John in 2000 at SDCC, he had a folio with 4 Drew Struzan Star Wars and Indiana Jones pieces, one of which he traded to Adam Hughes.

John kindly helped me out in 2004 at WonderCon when he queued up for me at Travis Charest's table - he was first in line and got me an awesome Travis Voodoo piece which is the most popular Travis piece at CAF.

His CAF gallery is here - http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryDetail.asp?GCat=95

This was a GREAT con! Best in Boston prob ever! I got a buttload of comics signed: Howard Chaykin, Art Adams, Ryan Ottley, Todd Dezago, Dexter Vines, Mark Morales, Frank Cho, Daryn Cooke, Frank Quitley, Tony Harris, Stephanie Buscema, Dave Johnson, Matt Wagner, Christos Gage, Terry Moore, Jack Purcell, and MORE!!!

Plus there were great deals on back issues and collections. Most had 50% off or buy 1 get 2 free! Good stuff!

One of the most (I say one, as I don't know all, he's definitely the most for me), magnanimous individuals in this entire little subcult of collectors that we enjoy so much. Anyone that has been fortunate enough to become friends with the Ninja, has had a good turn or several done for them by JH, often without their knowledge. He not only is one of the most generous art collectors out there, he's also one of the most knowledgeable, and any time I've been able to hang with John, I've walked away knowing something (or several somethings...:D ) that I didn't know about this obsession we all share...and often it served me very well down the road. He's definitely a TITAN amongst all of us, and I'm glad to call him a friend.

Hey George!

He's certainly all that and more :) I'll never forget his invaluable help with my Travis piece which is one of my fave pieces (published or unpublished). I was pleased to have been able to return the favour last year.

Like ninjas of old, he seems to appear at every convention out of thin air acquiring some of the most amazing pre-arranged pieces usually featuring his beloved Star Wars characters ;)

I did - you can see the beginnings here:

And I will reveal the piece all together - and my other goodies (that sounds so wrong) a little later in the week

Did you really get it to sell?

What?!?!? Where did you get that from?

No - I got it because I had no money to spend due to repairs that need to be done at my house - so my only way to get art was to do a jam piece.

On the contrary, I am getting the piece framed.

You know even though I am going to try and get some commissions at Heroes Con, I might do this also with some of the big names I will never make it on the list or can really afford to make it on the list. Did you just use a regular comic board?

I take it you don't like this aspect of the Grant Morrison Bat-Universe train wreck?

It has been surprisingly palatable (save RIP which was a mess but a DC issue due to the "death" in the Crisis books vs the narrative in the Bat-Universe); but I am waiting for it to become completely indiscernible as so much of his work does.

I think the whole bat-universe has jumped the shark one reason I stopped reading the comics after Hush storyline.. I have some artists send me books from time to time. I have no want anymore to read the crap they pass off as Batman..
