View Full Version : My Fred Barton 1:1 Robocop Bust

Just received my Robo bust today from Fred (not Sideshow) and really wanted to share with all my mates here. Why a new thread I hear you ask ? Well, if you can indulge me on this one, a life sized Robocop bust has been my holy-est of grails since I started collecting. In fact, it was my search for a Robo bust that lead me to Statueforum :thumbs2:

So, I'll begin with a few pics of the whole un-packing process. As Amaze mentioned in his recent post, it appears that Fred has made a real effort in the packing to ensure Robo made the journey with the best chance of arriving undamaged. A sturdy outer box, taped up really well, clearly labelled as fragile and also sporting a shock meter label.

http://i967.photobucket.com/albums/ae153/nidgit/297f06fa.jpg

I was a little worried to begin with when the little shock tag indicator was red in color, suggesting it had received a bit of a beating in transit.

http://i967.photobucket.com/albums/ae153/nidgit/047a07a6.jpg

The outer box was other wise undamaged and had several strategically placed pieces of foam protecting the inner box.

http://i967.photobucket.com/albums/ae153/nidgit/e903a957.jpg

The inner box again is quite sturdy and has a list of instructions on how to unpack the bust and how to handle it.

Upon opening the inner box, there was a lot of bubble wrap and foam peanuts protecting the bust.

http://i967.photobucket.com/albums/ae153/nidgit/72883a6e.jpg

Robo himself was very well wrapped in bubble wrap, light foam and pallet wrap.

Finally, after very carefully unpacking and unwrapping him, I'm pleased to say there was no damage of any kind, and I absolutely love it.

There is a little of the skin tone over lap on the chin guard, but it is very minimal and easily corrected (but barely noticeable as is) and the bust is actually heavier than I was expecting. From this point on, I'll let the pics tell the rest of the story, but I'll only say this. It is a sensational piece and I'm thrilled to have this in my collection.

hey mate, thanks for sharing! It looks stunning! Gonna try my best to get it! (Btw it looks like the robocop tag looks like its peeling off a lil)
I'm assuming you got it directly from the website? I'm planning to place an order through sideshow towards the end of the year.

Anyways I'm just worried about the thinness of the cast. My family moves quite often and while I always keep the boxes, I'm just afraid something that is thin might not survive multiple moves. :x I

I'm not even a Robocop fan, still I'm drooling over here..

The helm looks to have some extra 'green metallic' in it (guess its not due to lighting or camera), imo makes the whole a bit more realistic looking over (only) light grey metallic. Gives it contrast.

Looks really lifelike, Big Congrats !

Thanks mate . . . It is stunning :D I actually caught the edge of the name tag as I was moving it for pics, so it lifted a little in the bottom left corner. Easy fix, but this is not like your typical Sideshow 1:1 bust. I think you really do need to handle with care :thumbs2:

Thanks mate . . . Really hard to get pics without any reflection, but the paint on the armor / suit is terrific and IMO very realistic (for a scifi cyborg that is) :)

Brace yourself  due to the size, it can't be sent via USPS (mainly due to Australia Post restrictions) so has to be couriered and it ain't cheap. It was $400 direct from FB using Fedex (with full tracking). Not sure what Sideshow will end up charging so might be best to contact them for an estimate :thumbs2:

BTW - That's a pretty standard charge for a box that size and weight (from someone other than Sideshow). Still stings a bit though, but that's one of the joys of being an Aussie collector. On the plus side, there's no customs duty on it as it's under the $1K threshold.

Thanks THX . . . I'm assuming it is 2nd batch ?! As I mentioned above, it's a different kind of piece to your standard 1:1 bust from Sideshow, so it does need to be handled carefully, but it feels solid enough and whilst I didn't weigh it, it definitely has more heft than I was expecting.

Awesome! Still hoping I can get one someday.

Thanks Spazzy . . . definitely worth a pick up IMO.

Thanks mate . . . yep . . . number 28 . . . I forgot to take a pic of the Cert as well. The number is pirnted on the inner box, the back of the bust and the certificate.

Mine is being built. Apparently, I'm getting the new version, but not sure if that means anything. Glad to have returned the decapitated one;)

Congrats mate . . . mine felt pretty sturdy and was well packaged so I'm sure you'll be happy with your replacement.

is it a layered pearl finish? or is it more of a straight clear blue on metallic?

Nice score.

Nidgit
09-13-2011, 10:32 PM
Thanks Vader . . . the finish is a little of both on mine. It has a bit of the pearl / blue in places and parts of the upper chest have that slightly matte / flat finish (which is how it was supposed to be as I understand it). I have to say I'm very happy with the overall finish on mine. There might be one or two very, very small imperfections in the paint but they are barely noticeable up close and not at all if you just stand back and admire it. Fred has done a fantastic job :thumbs2:

Pose has that "Sh*t, did I just lock the keys in the car??...(leans over to look through passanger side window)...sh*t...I did lock the keys in the car" look to it.

And the base is just as impressive as the cardboard box the 1:1 bust was shipped in :inquisiti

I did have plans to buy the 1:1 robocop when Fred told me about it years ago. He can shove it now. That guy is never seeing another dollar from me. Plus, I don't think the final in hand product will come out looking anything like that.

Ha ha! I agree that this angle/pose looks off. My take is, "Dead or alive you're, oh...put your pants on, Chief!" (Eastwood reference) :smokin:
