Hi Gang-

A little info help here please:
How tall are Sentinals supposed to be?

Y'know- average classic Sentinal height?

Are they as tall as Galactus? I know Galactus can be different heights depending on his hunger level-but- I'm just trying to gauge in relation to our line.

FS SENTINAL  YES !!! :buttrock:

In the original X-men (Neal Adams era) they were around 20 to 25 feet tall.

But later on in in X-Men 97 98 and 99 Dave C. drew them a bit larger probalby 30 to 35 feet or so tall.

If this is a mini what size will it be?

JDH

If Sentinel is in the Galactus scale, it should be shorter than a normal statue. If it's in X-Men scale, it will be huge. Though it's not one for my collection, it will be interesting to see what BD do with this one. I hope Perna gets his base of choice.

A Sentinal can hold a full size human (or mutant) in the palm of 1 hand, so if it's gonna be in scale withe FS pieces it's gonna be gigantic!

I would think that (like Galactus) it should be in scale with the Mini's

JDH

HUH? They all have to fit together... They are all in the same scale....

Galactus is in a different scale to the X-Men (and, in my opinion, also the minis - I think he's in a scale of his own, so I display him well apart from the rest). Sentinel will have to be a brand new scale between full-size and mini to work, I think. Unless they plan on putting him in a box the size of most London starter homes.

I've seen the purple preview glimpse - looks like an impressive sculpt, though the Colossus pose looks a little awkward and I shudder at the thought of a light-up anything. It will probably look very impressive, but just not my style of piece. I couldn't quite tell if there was much of a Sentinel apart from wreckage in that one though...

strange that site says the Mark I was "Approx. 12 feet"

that site also says the Mark V is "Approx. 22 feet" when they have a picture of the Mark V (right under it) from Marvel Universe the clearly states its 20 feet...they are clearly confused.

Love to see this about the Galactus size, maybe a little bigger like about 24". That way it would be about 2X height of most statues. Not "in scale" but also not impossible to display.

Got to keep rising cost of oil, for the resin and the freight back over to the USA. If it get's too big, the price will lower the potential sales.

So the Galactus mini statue was never really in scale with the mini statues at all? If that's the case just make it to suit yourself. None of the X-men mini statues interlock bases like the FF anyway. I know I'm sounding dumb on this but I don't have any of the mini FF or the Galactus. Plus Perna has the right idea, Sentinal standing in the ruins of Xaviers school, as long as there is the purple chrome variant. :eplus2:

So the Galactus mini statue was never really in scale with the mini statues at all? Galactus's size varies depending on how much eanergy reserve he has, so that size in comparison to the mini FF statues isn't necessary wrong.

The Sentinals on the other hand (depending on which series id being discussed) are a stable height.

I would argue that a 30-inch statue would be impractical and too expensive for most buyers (me for one). While cool, is too much of a good thing.

As for the exact size of the Sentinels, they did vary a bit by model but 20 feet is a good average size. Most artists did not pay too much attention to scale when drawing them, as they seem to be as big as 50 feet in some pictures.

They usually travel in packs. I would rather have a pair of Galactus-size Sentinels (maybe even different models or paints) than one huge 30-inch Sentinel that may or may not be in any actual scale.

Why does the poll only have two options? The first option definitely does not work...what will display a Galactus size statue with? A Galactus size statue would be a "lone-wolf" in our collections. I truly do not understand why anyone would want a statue in Galactus scale.

30" in scale with full-size statues would be an awesome statue! Randy, don't listen to the naysayers...build it big!!! We lost out on full-size Galactus (I would have bought two: one for front lawn and one for the office!), don't do us wrong on the Sentinel.

The Sentinel should be in scale with the FS X-Men statues.

I think the Galactus statue was too small, but looks big only because of the tall base.

If the Sentinel can have a lower base, then it will only stand a little taller than Galactus, so people shouldn't worry about space issues.

I don't understand why people worry about FS heights when it comes to Bowen, but get all excited about Sideshow's large scale statues.

Make it as big as possible, they will find room or not buy it. I have a room 22ft. long and a rounded cathedral ceiling 14ft. high, plenty of room. I was waiting to order the GIANT SIZED GALACTUS before that got cancelled. Make this THE piece to have. I don't care if it's 3 ft. or Taller, your going to have to pay more for the shipping anyhow you may as well get something BIG for your money. Can you just Imagine the GIANT SIZED SENTINEL with the FS X-MEN surrounding the base, HOLY $#!+ !!!! The giant sized galactus would have been incredible with the F.F. and Avengers looking up at it!! And the SS in his hand looking down, JM and J.

Bowen Designs will make the right decision, my two cents, Any Sentinel would be great either at 30"+ or 20"+, If there smaller I'll get a few, if it's big only one.

After the Sentinel I would love to see a Surtur statue in scale with the FS Thor statue and the eventual Odin piece. Seeing as how the Thor (6'6") stands 11 inches, I estimate the Surtur should be no smaller than... 141 feet!
Wow...while I'm sure a lot of you would just "make room in your collections for this unique signature piece" maybe in scale with the mini would be better.
Again, Thor (6'6") being at about six inches, would bring Surtur in at much more reasonable 77 feet and 2,000 tons.

I know I'll buy it.

I will just add that I look forward to the Sentinel by Bowen no matter what size it comes in (I just hope I can buy it).

Haven't read the above posts, so sorry if this is duplicitous. But I'll go for the BIG one. I have no mini statues and ALL full sized statues (w/ a smattering of mini-busts). I want the one in scale with those and the 225 ish price is WAY worth it, baby!! Just look at this value BD is suggesting vs the 10" (at best) DC statues, priced at $200.

As for the already mini-scale Galactus statue....that's easy. Once the BIG BIG Sentinel statue sells out like crazy, and BD is wishing that the release numbers had been larger, THEN they can re-release an appropriately sized BIG BIG Galactus.....

Like others have already posted, I think the 30 inch statue would appear most accurate displayed with the mini-statues. Something in scale with the full-sized statues would be monstrous. If I had to make the call, I'd have it be at least as tall as the Galactus statue.

You could put some extra effort into the base and sculpt (ala Perna's suggestion) a ruined School for Gifted Youngsters or just have some HeroClix sized X-figures you could mount around it. A Wolverine or Nightcrawler on the shoulder or leg... Cyclops or Colossus down below... just some thoughts. I'd probably have it stand alone scale-wise.

However it turns out, bring it on! I ask (as always) for some Byrne inspiration in the design.

The FS statues are so much better looking than the minis (sorry) it seems as though you have to go with a bigger sculpt - early sentinals were in the 12-15 foot range why not go 1 and 1/2 the size of Colussus?

steve0404
07-07-2005, 12:57 AM
i think in scale with full sizes would be awesome, but instead of 30" inches tall, maybe have it getting up off the ground like it was just knocked down. and has the typical outreached hand trying to blast a muti while supporting himself with other hand on ground. that would solve the whole dead space issue in the display case because it would be so tall.

my two cents.

I am not sure you read this thread correctly. There would be nothing mini about the Sentinel.

The question is; do we want an 18-inch or a 30-inch statue to be in scale with the mini-statue X-Men or the FS statue X-Men respectively.

Tao
07-07-2005, 10:24 AM
I think that whether you are into mini's or FS statues, the 30" is the way to go. That size will look right with all the statue, since there were various sized Sentinels over the years.

The 18" might looks a little small compared to the FS.

I understand that some people want to save on space, but the height of shelves can be adjusted. You just have to decide whether or not to give up the space for this statue.

I think the larger, and pricier model is the way to go. BD needs to continue to "raise the bar" for manufactures and giving a statue that is 3X the height of a DC Direct for about $25 - $50 more clearly will show them that they have to rethink their approach.

BIGGER IS BETTER :buttrock: :buttrock: :buttrock:

I got the question - my point was that I don't like the minis so I'd want a Sentinel in scale with the FS statues - Early Sentinels weren't 80 feet tall but rather 12-15 ft depending on the artist. So A FS Sentinel from that era would be 1 and 1/2 the size of the Collossus FS

Make the economy Mark V Sentinel 18 inches (in blue) and the more capable Mark II (in purple) the 30-incher (they just don't make anything like they used to)!

This way, people can display their mini X-Men with the Mark V, their FS X-Men with the Mark II, and their Days of Future Past customs with the Mark II (Omega Hunter-Killer Bowen CC Exclusive).

IMO, if Randy goes with the 30" size I think he will be less likley to get all those who wanted the the mini scale on board due to it's higher cost and much larger size.

However, if he goes with the mini scale, then I think he will still get the majority of those who wanted the 30" buying it beacuse it will still be a FS statue.

I think that`s the only solution.
This isn`t just some regular size statue we`re talking about making one the same size as BD biggest statue and then topping that with an even bigger one these are not as easy to display as other statues.
Now I don`t really care one way or another but if it were up to me I would release both versions in limited quantities thereby everyone is happy except of course the full size completists. And not just big sentinal and mini me but make them really stand out from one another like one with battle damage or different model or base.

I don't think it's important. Galactus was supposed to be in scale with the Fantastic Four mini statues. Sentinel should be in scale with the X-Men full-size statues. I'm glad it's going to be huge.

Galactus is a mini statue. If the Sentinel is mini then yes, it should be a factor.

If it is a FS, then it is a different line so scale should be relative to the FS.

I really hope it is FS. :buttrock:

I say no. Galactus was made in scale to go with the mini-statues not FS.

while I agree that a FS Sentinal would be great but a FS would not be fair. to have mini-scale Galactus and then a FS Sentinal that is taller than Galactus, it just doesn't look right. if they're the same height, I say they both should be mini-scale.

I heard the prototype they made was so massive it collapsed in on itself and sunk to the center of the Earth! The next one will be 10% smaller.

I chose option #1. Imagine a 30" Sentinel, in-scale with the other FS statues. If it does get made, it'll probably be one of the biggest statues ever made. :)

I say in scale w/ FS X statues approx 30" retail approx. 225-250. It is worth the money for the size.

My only question is how many versions are there to be? Weren't there 3 the last time this topic was up?

At 30" tall, $225 to $250 would be a one hell of a good price.
