That is really cool! I really want to get a Conan print.

Not to get too off topic, but I stopped in to Austin Books and Comics when I was in Texas and it is a great store.

Lol, if I ever visit the US you can forget the usual tourist sites, I'll be going to Austin Books and Comics, SDCC, an Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, maybe Sideshow HQ, and a few restuarants that Adam from Man vs Food has visited :thumbs2:

There is a rumor that Martin Ansin might be doing a Conan, because people at the SDCC said they were handing out Conan stickers by Ansin. I hope that is true, will be spectacular.

The image on the sticker looks pretty cool, a poster would be a must have.

Some great new prints there by the way! Iron Giant is a particualr favourite of mine.

Yeah its a spendy bugger. I feel fortunate I was able to keep mine at my limit of $300. I don't see myself spending that much on another single print but never say never I guess.

Keep your eyes peeled and be patient. One should turn up.

Thanks guys . . . the Robo print was top of my wish list, but it wasn't until I actually saw the Akira that I decided I had to get that one. It really is a stunning piece of art. They weren't cheap but if the EB price guide (and other recent ebay sales) were anything to go by, I think I did really well on both pieces. And I only see the prices of these going up and up so figured I might as well take the hit now before they become completely un-attainable :thumbs2:

Thanks Scott . . . yeah . . . I have been a little bit overzealous :D but I'm really digging these (Stout's especially) and both the SW and ESB prints were very reasonable. I really enjoy scouting around for them where ever I can find them, so I'd be happy to let you know if I find a good deal on Stout's ESB :thumbs2:

The Phantom is one of Ansin's best, just a gorgeous print you cant go wrong with. It's really rare though it only has a total edition of 100 including the variant, which is just at 25. The colors are very vibrant in person and is a testament to Ansin's talent.

Yeah I asked him about how he was selling it since he mentioned it was framed and he said he used to have it in a cheap IKEA frame. That, his lack of feedback, unknown reserve price, distance from me geographically and the fact that he didn't even have pictures of the actual print up we're enough reasons for me to stay away from that auction.

Do it Tony you won't regret it. At first I felt like it was a lot and questioned whether it was worth it for a poster but once I had it in hand that feeling disappeared completely. I also figured it would be the most I'd spend on a Mondo but I was wrong as I just lined up a deal for a big dog that was considerably more. Pics soon. :eplus2:

Robocop by James Rheem Davis. This is an amazing print to see in person, the regular version with the blue metallic inks is the way to go for sure. My newest addition arrived today. My second favorite film of all time... BLADE RUNNER. :penguin:

I can't believe how cool this piece looks. It exceeded all my expectations and I can't wait to get this one to the framers. The metallic gold/silver inks need to be seen in person to be fully appreciated. As with all of Stout's work there are a ton of details incorporated. I had never noticed the origami unicorn before and it wasn't until I looked at my photos that it appeared to me. Just an amazing piece. I am one happy collector today and must admit the excitement I'm feeling over this piece of art exceeds how I feel when I get a new statue. Not that I don't enjoy a good sculpture but for some reason this is on another level right now. :D

People keep asking why Mondo is as popular as it is, and here is your answer. They allow artist to flourish bringing their creativity and imagination back into movie posters with top notch execution. Pictures speak louder then words, and it's saying a lot. Congrats on your top 5 list being completed, all amazing gems. Now to frame them!

Stout's Blade Runner . . . Big Dog indeed. Really happy for you Scott. Knowing how big a fan you are that must be a dream come true. Congrats again.

And love you're new pieces OB. I agree, that the regular Robo is the way to go. I finally managed to track one down myself . . . A little more than JRD was selling them for, but being a big Robo fan it was a must have for me . . . Hope to have it next week sometime.

Very nice addition, Scott. You definitely got the right version as well. I've been meaning to check the going rate for this print, but I haven't gotten around to it. Easily one of my top 5 favorite films.

Yep, you nailed it Ronald. :thumbs2:

I definitely agree this is the better version. The red/blue is cool too but as a fan of the film I feel the colors on this version better represent what was seen onscreen.

Thanks OB. This truly is a grail piece for me and I'm not one to throw that term around loosely. It's honestly something I figured I'd never own, much like The Thing or Big Trouble in Little China. Easily one of Stout's finest in my eyes. And you're so right about why Mondo is so popular. Couldn't have said it better myself.

As for completing my top 5 Mondos I still have 1 left and it just happens to be my favorite film of all time, The Empire Strikes Back. Once I score a regular version I will most likely be done. Though I won't rule out the other 2 SW Stouts at some point down the road. :D

While I can definitely appreciate the classic look of the variants, not to mention that I think the "Revenge" title is a great feature for fans, I personally prefer the regular versions. With each one having it's own unique colors it gives them individuality while still being tied together by Stout's art.

Btw, nice new additions Nick. Do you actually have a plan for all of these prints or you going to admire through card board tubes? :p

Plan ? There is no plan :p Although I figure if I get enough tubes, I can build a house big enough . . . :D

Seriously, the plan is simply to find the prints I really like, frame a selected few, and flat store the rest in a portfolio with those big mylar sleeves. I was looking at this other collectors last night (sweet collection BTW) and the portfolio is cool. Kind of like the worlds biggest coffee table book :p That, in broad strokes, is the plan !

So, if those sleeves open at the top and your posters are rolled. How easy do you think it will be to slide the print in the sleeve?
If you leave the print unrolled and weighed down. Will it lose the memory and stay flat?
I ask because I'd like to store a few in those sleeves and I plan on doing my framing myself. It would be much easier working with flat prints.

Nidgit
11-26-2011, 03:30 PM
I've been reading into that as well, and I think weighting the print down is the best way to do it. Some sites suggest reverse rolling over the shipping tube and fixing with rubber bands for a while, but I don't like the sound of that at all. I'll ask the guy I know here in Sydney. He had all of his in a portfolio and they were nice and flat and obviously came shipped in tubes. :thumbs2:

You definitely should NOT do that. I have seen prints where they were reverse rolled, only to have the paint smudge onto other parts of the print. It is unbelievable that people are even suggesting such a thing. Just lay them flat and weigh them down for about a week, it won't be perfectly flat but it will enough to get them into those portfolios.

Yeah, i was just reading about reaverse rolling. I would be too afraid of the paper creasing or the paint flaking off.
Laying it out weighted down sounds like the best option.
I brought home some sheets of card stock and paper to protect mine while they lay.

Thanks Scott . . . the Robocop print is really nicely done. As far as Stout's Robo, I think I read somewhere that he left Lewis off his because he wasn't able to do her likeness well enough at the time. Could be wrong but I'm sure I read that in an interview somewhere.

Thanks Scott . . . the Robocop print is really nicely done. As far as Stout's Robo, I think I read somewhere that he left Lewis off his because he wasn't able to do her likeness well enough at the time. Could be wrong but I'm sure I read that in an interview somewhere.

Interesting. I kinda figured there might have been a reason she wasn't included. Though I imagined some legal rights issue being the problem not Stout having trouble with the likeness. Strange that he couldn't nail it considering how talented he is.

Yep . . . Here's a link to an Ain't It Cool interview where he explains her omission. Its a great read for Tyler Stout fans in general.

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/49549

And here's the quote.

On my Robocop poster for instance, I couldn’t really do justice to Officer Lewis’ face, so I ended up leaving her out of the poster. The joys of deadlines. Though if I ever do a Robocop 2 poster, it’ll just be her face. Well, her and Tom Noonan of course

I honestly don't see why they would remove it, but I have heard stories of PB removing risque content from their servers. I am talking about pictures of female statues that is a lot more tame than the content of this poster. So I wasn't sure.
