Looks like Sideshow will be carrying this. I just got the Mondo newsletter and read this -

I hope you are all having a good Thanksgiving! Just a reminder, we're dropping two new prints tomorrow. First up is our Fortress of Solitude poster by JC Richard. This is the first poster we've released with Sideshow Collectibes in the DC Comics line. Keep an eye out for more from us and Sideshow soon.

We also have our first ADVENTURE TIME poster up for sale tomorrow. Mike Mitchell is working with us for the first time and he turned in a poster that is truly Mathematical.

Please follow us on Twitter for the on sale announcement. These posters will be available online at a random time on Friday, November 25th.

Seems that way. Unfortunately, the last time Sideshow solicited a Mondo piece, the site crashed as it was flooded. It might have been easier selling it through the Mondo website.

I'm not sure this means Mondo got a DC license. I wonder if Mondo is simply piggy-backing on Sideshow's DC license. My buddy produces a number of NHL product, however, he doesn't have a license, however, he partnered up with someone who does a have a license and gives them a cut.

MONSTER

Sideshow will probably be releasing a variant like they have done with the Disney Mondo prints.

Awesome

Hopefully Sideshow doesn't make an announcement on Twitter and Facebook every time their prints go up for sale. We will see if they learned from the last crash.

After reading the interview on Comic Book Resources, I think some nice pieces are in the works. I'm really interested in the Batcave and what they might do with a Wonder Woman poster. I'm going to pass on this Superman piece. It is awesome but not the definitive Superman for me. I just don't know where I would display it. I think I'll used the saved money for Jim Lee's Action Comics #1 variant cover.

At least it seems like Sideshow will have versions as well so people will get two normal chances at Mondo's DC stuff.

This one really wouldn't be a good poster to do a variant for so most likely Sideshow won't have one.

They could flip Superman so that is is arriving as opposed to leaving. Most likely to be a palette swap for the sky to make the scene take place at a different time of day, if we see one at all.

MONSTER
11-25-2011, 02:32 PM
They'll do some minor color changes or maybe add text to the poster. I just wonder how long it will be before Sideshow finally puts their up for sale.

I think the difference is that the Fortress piece is based on the film while the other was just a general DC print. Mondo prints will always be first and foremost about film.

pavehawk78
11-25-2011, 04:21 PM
From what I read from Mondo's newsletter, they are approaching DC pretty much from a comic and TV standpoint and not movies. I thought the fortress was a weird place to start if they were sticking to comics.

You guys should consider hopping on board the "just going to buy what I like" train before you suddenly find yourself with a basement full of pieces which may never see the light of day. These may not be "hot" forever. Also, movie poster revisits appears to have taken off. Before you know it, there could all sorts of companies out there doing the same thing. The word is out, there's money in making movie posters.

Awesome
11-28-2011, 07:06 PM
The good thing about posters is that they don't take up a lot of room, just put them in a flat file or folder and keep them there until you have a buyer. Statues are a whole different story.

Exactly that's why I don't see the big hype that follow these. Also I don't trust the limited #'s on anything years ago I saw a guy on ebay selling a litho with the exact same # as a litho I already owned. Also whats to keep someone from taking one of these now high dollar pieces to a print shop and having it reproduced then selling them (yeah someone is going to say MOST print shops will say they won't reproduce but trust me a lot don't care).. that's the problem with paper collectibles like lithos and prints IMO too easy to counterfeit.

These aren't something you can just copy. Like Monster pointed out, these are screen printed using paints on specific paper. You'd need to have access to a silk screen facility, the original template or an exact duplicate, the right paper, and you'd have to know the exact type of paint used for each color on the print. If you can manage all of that and make it look authentic.... well sh!t, I may consider buying one since it would essentially be the real deal. :p

Exactly that's why I don't see the big hype that follow these. Also I don't trust the limited #'s on anything years ago I saw a guy on ebay selling a litho with the exact same # as a litho I already owned. These aren't your standard posters or prints. They are silk screen so its going to be a lot harder to copy these and make them look authentic.

This is very true. My framer, who also has these industrial scanners with the bells and whistles, gets requests to reproduce pricey lithos all the time. He says that getting exact replicas aren't possible unless he either gets these super high res files to work with otherwise it'll look like a copy. The silk screen versions are even tougher as the ink is applied one at a time on special paper.

Who's going to bother copying them anyway. As Ronald said, there would be quite a bit of effort involved for a print that originally sold for $40 ??? Sure the resale can be significantly higher, but I would imagine most 'counterfieters' are going to focus their energies on something that commands a higher price to begin with.

Do you mean the Drew Struzan print (I know it sold for a higher price originally), but did that one get copied ?

I've been collecting these posters for a couple years, this isn't a new fad. They have always been difficult to get, Alamo Drafthouse made movies fun. Drink beer and buy a silkscreen of your favorite movie. Sure you can copy one, but it won't have the color factor. Check YouTube on how they make them, it's a pretty cool process. I also collect a few concert silkscreens, Frank Kozik is a genius. He's been doing this for years. Pictures on the Internet do not capture the beauty that these prints are. Plus they look great in frames. Mondo aren't the only ones doing this, plenty of cinemas hire artist to do the same, Mondo just became more mainstream. For you Mondo Grail chasers, find Billy Perkins The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly print. It's a three piece set, it's Vulcan nuts;) I posted a pic of it somewheres on this forum.
