It looks like they only took closeups of things Gentle Giant already has up for order, with the sort-of exception of the weathered 3PO... which I assume will become the newest variant. Sigh.
But I'm glad to see Boba is on the way! I like the pose. :thumbs2:
Why DOES Gentle Giant tease us so? I really hate their policy concerning no pics of prototypes. I guess they feel that if you can't come to San Diego, no preview for you! Good thing CK13 is there. We know how much respect he has for the No Photo signs :D

The original bust has a print run that comes in at a whopping 7500 and still commands $250 on the secondary market over a year after its release... how many do you think they should go with on the statue?

Vader was 7500 and it was severely allocated from Diamond. They needed at least 10,000+ for Vader and they're probably going to need more for Fett. Maybe 12,000.

With so many awesome things from SS coming in, I'm afraid GG will not see too much of my money. Will get Luke and maybe Yoda. Don't like Maul and need to see more Boba pictures to see if it's worth (and principally if it's the same scale of my GG Vader)

07-14-2005, 05:49 PM
Yes, may be better to display, but too small for my tastes and Sideshow SW statues are much better looking than anything GG ever produced, IMO. Anything smaller than 1/5 scale sucks for me right now. It needs to be big! :buttrock: :D

07-14-2005, 07:16 PM
I dunno...it'd have to be a real POS to not buy a Boba statue...any Boba statue...
GG's other statues are very nice, I've said it before, not as nice as ATK or SS's, but at half the pruiice they are awesome...
Now a Lando Bust, Boba and Maul statues, and a Luke on TaunTaun to go w/ the Dewback, and Speederbike, not to mention the 1:1 Yoda....? And all of the other Clone War Maquettes which are also very nice in person...1/6 is good for me 1/4 is awesome, but also huge...1/6 is great for variety and it affords me the oppurtunity to grab 1 or 2 in between ATK and SS's "Super" Pieces.
I've been annoyed by GGs whole BustUp fetish as of late but apparently they've been working hard for some of us at the same time...

I agree, the left arm could have been done better. It really looks like he is about to give Han Solo a rectal exam.
Still, considering what Gentle Giant has shown us so far, this is a huge leap forward. Hopefully they will finally get the ball rolling and start putting out more quality non chrome statues.

I think this looks really nice but I am not sure about the pose. That left arm looks weird the way its out there. It would be cooler if he would be holding his gun with both hands or maybe firing a wrist rocket with his left.

All i can say is that SS Vader had better improve or he's gone. Luke Sucks big time. Solo's not too bad but i'd never buy a figure of Solo. Grevious is the only one that has lived up to expectations. There was no looking to get him adjusted etc. I'm still not convinced about SS Vader.

I never liked SS's Luke too much until I saw it in front of me. I don't think there's any better Luke(or close to) than SideShow's right now. It looks very life like, and the likeness it's awesome. I tend to prefer a full sculpted statue over a sculpted/cloth mixed one, but the mix it's working beautifully on this piece. And in many other SS 1/4 sculptures. I'm defenetly keeping it.
Gentle Giant's Luke busts have a really bad likeness. I fail to see any trace of Mark H. in there(other than the hair). But for each it's own.
Attakus Luke statue have a HORRIBLE likeness. The body and sculpture details are amazing, but he looks like a 10 year old kid dressed for Halloween . And I'm a big Attakus fan in general. I bought this statue and ebay'd it the same day I received.
About Han Solo, I like a lot the Attakus one and the likeness is very good. Gentle Giant Han's busts are just ok, but then again, those are busts. I never saw Sideshow's Han Solo in person, but from the pictures, the likeness looks to be spot on. I'm looking forward to this one. Yes, may not apeal too much to somebody that isn't a Hans fan. Not my case, tough, since he is one of my faves. Same goes to Luke.
About SS Vader, you know I'm also not that impressed with it, tough I have to admit that the last SDCC pictures I saw from him looked much better than before. I hope it looks good when I receive it, or I will flip it! :eplus2:

The Vader I think will be very impressive when it does come out(and matching up with obi-wan is great!). The Han I am holding my opinion until I see it. The luke really changed my mind on how cool SS does stuff. I saw the prototypes at Celeration 3 and wasn't impressed, but then I got it and wow...opinion changed. As for the Attakus stautes had the whole line and was not impressed at all. I sold all of them except the Han carbonite. I cannot wait to see a SS version of Boba Fett.

Well, as some of you guys already said :
The left arm looks strange AND the paintjob on some parts (helmet and green cloth) looks sloppy. But as long as this is only a prototype, there's still hope they improve those flaws for the final version.
IMO the best Boba Fett so far is the Koto one....great paint apps, great sculpt and I even like him better than the ATTAKUS version because I think the pose is better.
I got 2 GG statues so far (Chewie and Vader) and I think they're good but not perfect (Chewies paintjob is just average compared to other statues and Vader's helmet looks a bit deformed) and I'd rank GG somewhere near Kotobukiya (when it comes to SW-statues). So far I haven't seen a Sideshow statue with my own eyes but I just don't like the idea of mixing resin with real cloth. Wich is why I passed on the SS-Vader after seeing the first prototype shots.
So, ATTAKUS is (and will probably stay in the upcoming months and years) my personal favourite manufacturer of SW-statues. The 2 Vaders and the Darth Maul are just perfect......flawless masterpieces.

Here's what I learned about the Star Wars Universe after putting things into perspective after recovering from Episode III.
Anyone who is Imperial, or does business with the Empire, is plain, flat out, incompetent, or... Got there by nepotism.
Jedi are single taskers, Sithlords can Multi-task, use a lightsaber, throw force lightning, or objects at the same time. Darth Maul, Darth Sidious, Darth Tyrannus, All multi-taskers. What do we know about doing many things at once??? The job never gets done. There it is, for you, pure and simple. A lack of focus will be your undoing.
They have faster than light travel, but apparently don't have Sonograms.
Obi-Wan was the most powerful Jedi Ever, because he spanked Anakin's ass with minimal fuss.
Anakin was a whiny control freak. The Emperor, Also a whiny control freak.
Because of one gungan's idiocy, and one Jedi's idiocy, the whole galaxy came under the oppression of the Empire.
Episodes II and III are the only times you'll see Stormtroopers hit anything on purpose.
The First Trilogy, was a story about a guy who didn't want to join the Family Business.
The Second Prequel Trilogy, was the story of a whiny kid, who grows up to be a whining prick, has a messy breakup, is alienated by his friends, and never gets to see his kids again, and it costs him an arm and a leg.
THAT, is what I learned from the Star Wars Universe. Idiocy, Mediocrity, Those are the ways of the Darkside.

Maybe...........you don't like the fact, that it's so perfect.....which causes you to fall over things or run against things in that room because you can't take your eyes off it everytime you come near it.

I actually think the Attakus Maul is perfect and wish I still had mine.
The pose is awesome and he just has the look of, I'm one badass.
I love it. Very good quality...probably why it sells for over $700 on ebay now.

Me too, I don't like very much the fact of clothing a statue. Grievous so far for me.

Relax, it just a proto. I believe we'll have a great Boba. :buttrock:
I agree with that. If you have a great Boba bust (no doubt is the best bust done by GG till now) you should have a great statue too. Keep in mind this is a prototype not yet approved.
I love my Boba bust, is one of my favorite pieces. :buttrock:

This is the guy who we saw track the Millenium Falcon...and call Darth Vader to come do all the work.
Then he died on Tatooine.
I am in the small Boba-Fett is sorta lame group...I might be the only member :buttrock:
Actually, you're not the only member. For such a supposed bada$$, there was no glory in the way he died. I mean come on, he accidentally gets dumped into the Sarlacc pit by a half-blind Han? Now, I know that in fan fiction he miraculously survives being dumped into the pit, but I'm just talking about the movies, okay? (And I think daddy Jango could have died with a bit more of a struggle as well, but you can't have everything).
Notwithstanding all the crap I just wrote, this is kind of a cool sculpt, and I'd consider getting it.

boba fett never died, newbies.
George Lucas tangled with the idea of letting Boba Fett escape in Return of the Jedi.
When watching Return of the Jedi on DVD with the commentary, Lucas mentions that he was contemplating shooting Boba Fett crawling out of the Sarlacc. I really wish he filmed that shot after changing the voice. He needs to make it up some way.
Marvel Comics continued where George Lucas left off when they were comissioned to do a series of Star Wars comics in the mid-1980s. Issue #81 featured an idea that Jawas, while scavenging the wreckage of Jabba's ship, found Boba Fett in the sand, outside the Sarlacc pit.
In 1996, Tales of the Bounty Hunters, a book licensed by Lucasfilm, followed a storyline of Boba Fett escaping from the Sarlacc. Mark Austin's novel, The Accursed One Lives, also chronicles a concept for Boba Fett post-Jedi, given the scenario Lucas left us all with in 1983, that Boba Fett fell.

Wook, in that same ROTJ commentary, Lucas also says that if he knew ahead of time that Boba would have been so popular, he would have made his "death" more popular. He also mentions the same thing in a Rolling Stone article that came out earlier this year. (Damn, I wish I still had that article).
But if you look at my post, I specifically mention that I was talking about the movies only. I know that Boba continues to live in Lucasfilm-licensed books. But bear in mind, this is the same company that also licenses Star Wars bed sheets and Darth Vader lawn sprinklers. (http://shop.starwars.com/catalog/product.xml?product_id=1890)

Yes Wooktroop, but that is all expanded universe material. If it didn't happen in the film than its not part of the official continuity and amounts to little more than a fan boy's wet dream.

They have been listed again on ebay, and easily found in a search.
The Maul LOOKS AWESOME!!!! (big maul fan)
The picture with the Boba listing is really good also, must have been taken when GG had their backs turned. What's with the "no photos" rule, if I had a product that cool I would slap photos of it everywhere.
