Well, first, the wire you want to use, is aluminum.

Second, anything that's thick enough to bear the weight of your material would be good.

I personally use aluminum wire that's 1/16th of an inch thick. So, I think that would be like... .0625 of an inch or something like that.

Your best bet, would be to go to the art supply store, find wire that's as thick as an old wire hanger. That should work.

I work typically in 1/6th scale, so I use the heavier armature wire.

Hope that helps.

Thank you very much for the answer Tommy.

I thought to use 4 Gauge(0.204"), but i don`t know if
is to thick for an 13" tall figure??!!...i don`t know
if such level of thick could cause problem to move and
position the sculpture??..
Should i use for example an 6 Gauge(3/16 in)wire??..or
it is a to thin wire to support a sculpture of 13"?

pardon my english :(

I really wish I'd have hung on to my label for my wire, because it's about as strong as you need to make anything. It's about the same thickness as a coathanger. Probably 3/32" thick.

It's not all that heavy, but it will hold the weight up just fine. It might help to ask, what it is you're sculpting?

thanks again Tommy.
the figure that i will sculpt is a human figure, but not
the heroic type, and it will be a thin guy.

Use the stuff that I use, and you'll be fine. I had to pick up more of the same stuff, and sure as **** they didn't have the damned tag on it.

It's been like this all damned day.

Radio Shack sells rolls of aluminum grounding wire that is good for armatures.

It's cheaper than the armature wire you'd get at an artist supply.

I buy mine in 300' spools for about 20 bucks. I think I'm doing okay there.

Where do you get the 300' feet of wire? I'm looking to start sculpting as well.
