Hey Guys, since Diamond did show the bust at San Diego, thought it would be cool to post pics, plus I thought you might get a kick out of seeing the clay version!

JJJ deserves to get "busted"! A great job.
Love the Scorpion's tail! Is that his mask in Jonah's hand too?

I like it! About time JJJ gets busted.
To be honest I never took a close look at the painted pics so when I saw these I thought it was a life preserver around the base and couldn;t figure out why

I agree. I've been saying that JJJ deserved a bust for the longest time already. :buttrock:

Great work Rocco :thumbs2:
I would never have thought to include the Scorpion elements into it, but they're a good touch. I plan to pick this up, no doubt about.
Looking forward to seeing more of your work!

It looks great in person... Almost the same scale... I was just wondering why they painted the mask in his hand green.

Rocco - Did you sculpt any of the other pieces that DS had on display? I know you sculpted the Astonishing Colossus bust and was wondering if you did/will be doing any of the others in that series.

Thanks! I asked Vinnie to do a quick sketch of the JJ bust for me. Diamond liked it, but wanted me to incorporate elements of the Scorpion and/or Spiderslayer. I wanted to tell a little story in a sense. So I sculpted a beat up Scorpion tail and mask, as if Spidey just dropped off the Beat up parts for JJ, since JJ probably commissioned another attack on him. Naturally he'd be upset! ;) There was also some room on the back, so I added a little spiderslayer for some extra detail. There was also a note that I had put on the tail, "Courtesy of your Friendly Neighborhood Spiderman. (I hope that the production run will still have it, fingers crossed.)

Thanks guys, I'm glad you like my work so much! I unfortunately haven't been contacted for any new bust or statues from Diamond. I sculpted the first Astonishing X-men bust, and I'm friends with John Cassaday, and still they haven't contacted me for any more. I wish that they do hire me for more projects, cause I love working with them. Maybe I should start a petition, "If you want me to sculpt more DST busts and statues, vote yes!" LOL Just thinking out loud. ;) Freelancing isn't always a walk in the park.

Rocco, it's a truly great sculpt, and the story and little touches you added in really make it perfect. Thanks for sharing it with us. A couple of questions:
1. When is it slated to come out?
2. Is there anything we can do here to inspire DST to commission more work for you? It's that old double edge sword -- we don't want to tick anyone off, but, we love your work and think you should be getting regular gigs from them (and we'd buy 'em). Let us know brother!

Hey Mosby,
JJ comes out in June I think, not totally sure.
Thanks, I'd love to do more, but I don't think it would be cool for me to promote myself to Diamond like that or have you guys do it. I'm friends with a few of the sculptors working for DST, and it wouldn't be fair. At the same time, its a dog eat dog world! LOL just joking ;)

Rocco- Your work just gets better with each new sculpt. I just picked up your Astonishing Colossus bust and will be getting Jonah whenever he hits the shelves.
I'm really looking forward to seeing your Bowen sculpts hit the order page. All three are characters I've been looking forward to for a long time. The Chuck is my favorite though :thumbs2: Great sculpt of an iconic image.

That sculpt is amazing! I'm definetly gonna get this one. Just the other day I was wondering if there would ever be a JJJ bust, and then I register at this forum and the first thing I see is "JJJ bust" lol. :)
