Do you guys consider the Shiflett Hulk as a "standing" pose or an action pose? I've always considered it an action piece as he looks like he's about to open a can of whoop-ass on someone, but I can see where it's quite similar to the standing Spider-Man statue in terms of movement. Regardless, I really dig that statue and think it's going to be hard to top.

A true standing pose (like the upcoming Diamond maquette) just doesn't seem to do the Hulk justice. I don't know... maybe you could have him flexing out, a la Lou Ferrigno just after he'd made the change :D

If I were in Randy's shoes, I'd be tempted to resculpt the mini-statue he did in a bigger scale. That piece rocked. :buttrock:

I've always seen it as a standing pose myself - he's readying himself for action. I agree that it looks a bit odd when Hulk is depicted standing bolt-upright.

The Hulk is a tricky character, as there has been so much artistic licence taken with his depiction over the decades. I'd say pick your favourite artist's style and go with it, Randy.

As a customer, I'm not in the market for another Hulk, but the only style that might be able to tempt me into a statue is the 70s style Hulk, the way everyone seemed to draw him back then. How he appeared in Hulk vs Batman. A Kirby Hulk I could go for a bust of.

But for the more modern Hulk fan, I know Marvel made major use of this Gary Frank image in marketing a few years back:

I always liked this issue. One of my earlier comics. Hulk was mindless, and all the heroes try to stop him. Showed me just how tough he can be. I'd like to see him holding somthing in his hands, like on the cover. In this issue, he fights Thor in the end, and picks up an adamantium statue to throw at him. The statue is of himself, in his more heroic earlier days. Good irony. Too bad Randy can't do that pose. Of course, the statue would weigh like 20 lbs.

JDH
07-27-2005, 09:51 AM
That's a great issue, Kman - I first got it and read it in Scotland when I was a wee lad.

Dana, that's the Hulk I'd most like to see! Not that exact pose, but that style!

Doom - Lee Weeks' recent Hulk run was beautifully drawn. A piece based on his art would undoubtedly be splendid too.

Bladedanger - I always thought that pic was rather odd. Why is The Hulk doing the Twist? But then I finally saw the cover on which it was based, and it made a lot more sense to me. To be honest, I don't think that such a pose would translate well as a sculpt. But it is a classic image.

I rather liked this Michael Golden piece. I would imagine the Hulk being a bit more bulky perhaps, but I like the pose, and a rubble base would match up nicely with Juggernaut, or possibly the eventual Rhino FS. It would also add some height to the piece, considering teh Hulk is big, but he isn't really super tall.

Randy doesn't have to tell or ask us anything if he doesn't want too. We should be lucky he even joins us in discussion and should even feel honoured that he would ask us of our opinions. Sure what the customer wants is best, but how many companies come up to the consumer asking exactly what they should do? Give the guy a break, all in due time.

I do like that Deodato pic. And Gabe Perna's Hulk bust is awesome. I wish we knew what direction Randy was going in. I think the Deodato picture is pretty close to what the Shiflett's already did (not the pose, aesthetically). Big, highly detailed muscles, very savage.

Randy, my guess is you are looking for the more classic, Kirby/Buscema style? Or are you just after a pose, not an artists style?

I stated previously that I'm looking for two versions. Modern and Classic.

One would be Kirby inspired, the other...someone else.

At the moment, I'm leaning toward the shot (for modern version) that someone posted of Hulk just standing there (in shadow with glowing eyes) from a recent cover. I had been thinking of this one for quite a while anyway. For the "classic version" I may just create my own pose, but inject it with all the earmarks of early Hulk (actually- kinda simiar to the Lee Weeks version). Lee incorpaorated all the visual elements from old Hulk comics: Big flat head, tiny nose, blocky anatomy and the goofy haircut.

There would be a wide release and a limited release. We may even release a third version based on the smart Hulk.(in various ltd.editions, spaced apart in the release schedule).

Sorry no pic to post.

I like a more modern hulk,"smart-Hulk". I REALLY do NOT like the original 'Frankenstein-Hulk". I know you like the older stuff Randy,but,please...

And the Hulk Swinging a tree trunk, lamppost, half a car. I think that will be the only way to get an "Action" pose. Other wise it will be very simular to the 1st fullsize.

Or having the Hulk as he "lands", and the ground all messed up and him in a bit of a hole.

Or Hulk doing his 'shock-wave',where he slamms his open hand palms together in front of him.

I would give my right arm for a full size hulk like the 1 below maybe Randy can have Ryan sculpt some of the hulk like the abs(those abs rule big time!!!)and those hands look so real..

This has to be 1 of the nicest Bust's around trust me this picture does not to this sculpture justice!!!

This has always been one my favorites

yes I agree with this one, loved it ever since Keown did it. I love the cover to "the return of the monster" but, not for a statue.

I think you should go with a Keown art work or just go classic Kirby :buttrock: .

 Good googily moogily. Make his face meaner (maybe an open mouth) and a little more mature and lose some of the beatle hair, and this thing will ROCK. He might need to be just a little broader too. Need some smashed up stuff around him. The hands are awesome. :buttrock:

but I think Randy is talking FS.

I'd like one of these though. Is it going to be a kit?

WOW! With a little bit of tweaking from Randy Bowen, this would end up being the perfect Hulk FS statue! :buttrock:

I recall Randy saying once that he'd release a Hulk every month if he could.

Looks like he's giving it a damn good shot!

One of the Smart Hulk would be cool. I love the Schifflet's version of him wearing glasses (ala Clark Kent)!

Whatever you do, please no "pot belly" Hulk. I think Hulk should be 7'6" or so and weigh 1,200 lbs with 2% body fat. The "fat" hulk is an interpretation by a couple of artists who were just looking for a different approach. so hopefully that's not the version Randy is considering. Imagine either of these as FS, with building rubble and part of a smashed up car integrated into the base.

Can someone please re-post this image? I have been through this thread and can not find one that looks like it. I'd like to know what image Randy is talking about.

Thanks,

Bruno

I know I've seen the image described by Randy Bowen but in trying to find it came across this one. While I don't expect it being selected it would be...cool.

Has anyone seen this Hulk one yet? Check here (http://www.universmarvel.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=381) and scroll down. It's the Gary Frank version. Looks neat and huge, as Hulk should be. He'd go nicely next to my Juggy statue. .

How about just a plain standing pose like in the second thumbnail? I personally would like it.

Here you go Randy. I'm pretty sure this is the Hulk in the shadow pose you were looking for.

This Hulk bust gets my vote

Any kind soul knows what size Mr Bowen will make the hulk FS?

the previous FS Hulk was way too big and too costly for me

:(

The new Hulk should be even bigger than the proposed Sentinel at 30 inches or even the four-foot Galactus. It should be much bigger than the DST Marvel Milestones one and should need to be delivered by forklift. It will be the centerpiece of my collection and I will knock down walls as required. At least, eight feet tall and over 2,200 lbs of cold cast porcelain. MAKE IT THE BIGGEREST!
