Akuma Vs Gouken Diorama

As this is the next diorama in line, its only right that is has its own thread. I know Jerry will show us this bad boy very soon and I seriously can not wait! Who's going to be getting this? I wonder what the Ex will be. I'm hoping another light up feature where Akums's eyes and kanji light up. That would be so friggin awesome! What would you guys want as the Ex? Let us converse! :)

I'm doing so many cool projects its getting harder to choose favs. :) They are all very awesome and fun to sculpt but I tell you yesterday Jerry told me about a project I will be doing that blew my mind! This will be insane and I cant wait to start it! Its something I've been wanting to sculpt for awhile now. :D

I'd just like to say I went nuts on this sculpt and did my best to make it scream action. When you see it in person there will be no doubt that you are witnessing an epic battle between Akuma and Gouken. :eplus2: It's definitely One of my favs and I love how that Energy blast turned out! Thank you all again for supporting my work. I really love sculpting this awesome stuff and having you fans enjoy it so much. I think I remember seeing him post wed see a preview in early jan, a full reveal in mid jan and finally it would go up for preorder at end of jan or it may have been at end of jan a full reveal and the info for when it for go live for preorder.

I want this piece to be perfect and seeing how its taken forever, looking at this pic, I'm still not happy with how Akuma looks. Gouken looks perfect. His stance is stiff as it should be when a powerful force hits it. However, Akuma doesn't look like he's hitting Gouken with any force. His left leg and arm both shouldn't be as bent. Should be more straight and I honestly believe he'd look way better if both his fists were closed. That way he too would look more like he's really hitting Gouken with force. I guess we'll just have to wait for the full reveal. I am so excited for this piece..but I truly believe that if Akuma was actually facing the other way, with his right leg hitting Gouken, it would look much better...

Akuma's left leg and arm should remain AS IS. A perfectly straight arm and leg would be appropriate if this statue was depicting the attack BEFORE it connects, but it isn't. The statue is depicting an attack that has connected, and been blocked, dispersing energy for about a half-second.

I could go either way on the clenched fists, but the way it's depicted right now is more game accurate. As far as mirroring the statue...I don't really see the point.

It's still an awesome diorama, I guess because Akuma is my favourite character, I'm just picturing what I want. Still amazingly sculpted by John! :)

Also I'm sure Jerry is actually the one that's thankful that SF gives him the opportunity to advertise his products for free and enables his company and the products he's selling to get so much exposure to niche target clients without having to spend a dime on marketing like most other companies...Jerry's posts are basically ads for his upcoming products..

We both have love for Akuma (he's my favorite too), so I appreciate the thoughtful examination of the sculpt. I just think what you are stating is technically wrong. As I mentioned, the leg should be bent after contact, and it's far and away practical for hands to be open when kicking to maintain balance. Any time Bruce Lee kicks, for example...

I agree though...amazing sculpt. Not sure about the energy burst. I think I prefer the watery one, but I like your idea about purple/blue sides to it.

You'd be surprised about gaming companies and how much they know about their own products. How many of the people who actually created street fighter are still working at CAPCOM I wonder. I mean you get new people joining all the time and I'm sure they have to learn about some stuff as well. Take resident evil 6 for example. They thought they were giving the fans what they wanted and how wrong were they?

I'm not saying CAPCOM know nothing about street fighter because that just sounds silly, but people like Ono who produced the new games are in charge of the whole franchise now apparently, so what he says goes now I'm guessing.

Takashi Nishiyama, Yoshiki Okamoto, Akira Nish-itani and Akira Yasuda are to me the real creators of street fighter and not Yoshinori Ono. Nothing against the guy, I'll love him for bringing it all back but he doesn't own street fighter...

Tell me about it. It's all about the money these days. Companies raping their own products just to milk the cow and make more money. Capcom does it a lot these days (look at RE). Nothing we can do about it because it's their product. If Capcom decides to make Akuma Ryu's father, mother, uncle, cousin or whatever we have to buy that because they can do whatever they want, SF is Capcom's property. yeah man, I agree 100%. I've also played every version of sf4 for hundreds of hours and Akuma was always smaller then Gouken from what I could tell. I think anyone who has played the game as much as either of us would know that. I think the scale looks awesome.

The listed weights of characters in the Street Fighter wiki are nothing short of stupid. Sagat is listed as 78kg. BS, he's 7'5". To be that tall and weigh so little would mean to be nothing but skin and bone.

I really love this dio...especially the light up feature. It came out great.
Normally I'm against light-ups but I feel in this instance, it greatly improves the piece. But under certain lighting conditions, the regular might look just as good.

I was also unsure about the Akuma face.... At first.

But then I studied it from various angles, and compared it to other Akuma facial sculpts.

I've since become very impressed with this face. Especially being that it is a smaller scale. His hair is 'Lion O' esq, but I like the stylized look.

Great emotion from both characters.

The engineering of this is very impressive. The sculpting detail in the clothing is also very nice. The statue conveys the motion of the scene very well overall.

However, I do see the issues people have with the Akuma face. To me, it's a unique take on it (and a cool one, IMO), but it would be hard to argue that that is the iconic Akuma portrait.

The bigger issue to me is the 'energy blob'. It looks like a strange water effect to me, and doesn't look at all 'impactful'. Again, just my opinion.

I wasn't giving much attention to this dio, but now that i saw the complete set of pics im very impressed! This dio looks amazing and i'm now considering on making it my next purchase =)

Akuma's face is perfect IMO... he looks angry, fierce, in movement during the heat of an epic battle... i dont know, just felt it looked perfect for the situation...

No comments on Gouken... simply outstanding!

It's seems fairly obvious that Capcom is favoring water style effects because that was the theme for SFxT.

Well, they weren't going to use the first two for this statue. So I guess they chose water.

Why they chose that over pointy energy spikes is anyone's guess. But I like it anyway, and it looks great with the illumination.

And I think people are being a bit hasty on the critique of Akuma's face.

The photos arent picking up some of the cool details I sculpted but it looks very cool up close. Yeah, there is always the extra layer of liscencor approval to go through too....something that I don't think most of us take into consideration (myself included). Interesting.

This piece looks epic. At first being the huge Alvin Lee style Akuma fan that I am I was a little dissapointed with the face but the more I see it the more I love it. This piece is perfect in this Akuma fans book! And Thank God for the Kanji. One thing that should've been done that no one has done yet is not only should Akuma's eyes light up red but also the Kanji should light up red. That would've been perfect!! I still love this piece though very much! Great work as always John!

Akuma's face and the Nickelodean Gak effect are kind of a turn off. However, the pose itself is awesome and Gouken looks freakin' amazing!

I'm tempted, but not super pumped up about it. The only dilemma to consider is when we'll ever see a Gouken v. Akuma diorama ever again. Maybe never. :(
