Recent conversations with person(s) both on and off the forum have got me thinking about my first collection... military and law-enforcement style firearms. Started buying in 1991 just after joining the Reserves and within two years racked up a halfway decent arsenal.

Was just wondering what else you may or may have collected?

No FN-Fal, pictures are of :

Glock 17
HK 93
Benelli Super 90 M3
Remington 700P
Barrett XM109 25mm (new this year, just checking if anyone was paying attention and had enough background to check me on it, figured it whould be you!)

I used to collect dollar coins ($1.00 and $2.00). Not the collectibles mind you, regular currancy...change. Finally brought it in one day for deposit at the bank and had close to $3,000 in small change! Man was the teller pissed.

Of course, still have the comics and action figures. Less guns now as I had to get rid of a bunch with our new gun laws up here. Used to be able to walk into a gun store with money and walk out with an assault rifle, only pistols had waiting periods. Ah, the good old days. Nuts... but good.

That benelli is a great weapon. I had one, a lot of tac teams in the US use those cause of the ability to switch from lethal/non lethar rounds (pump/semi auto). The semi auto action on that thing is SWEET too.

So what, do you hunt moose from the safety of your front porch with that Barret? :) Isn't the range on that over 1 or 2 kilo's or something like that?

One of these days I'm gonna buy either another shotgun or an HK carbine...

Say, can you guys purchase those new G-36's? I believe civilians in the US can't get them, but Police/tac units are now starting to carry them (not as popular as the M-4 carbine or the HK mp 5 though...)

The .50 cal Barrett was credited for a anti-personnel shot at out to 2.2 km in Afganistan by a Canadian JTF2 sniper team working with US Special Forces.

The 25mm version pictured is qouted as having an effecive range of 2.5 km but you could probably hit a stationary vehicle out to about 4 with little problem with the right optics and the right shooter.

With the new gun laws anything that is worth owning is now prohibited ie. anything mean looking or german!

Word. My buddy in the US army was telling me about that shot, anytime someone talks crap about Canadians my buddy shuts them up with that sniper story.

Yeah, those G-36's are a little to tough for regular folk to have... :)

Just double checked my info and I was wrong about the Barrett in that shot in Afganisthan.

It was 3PPCLI (Regular Infantry unit) with a McMillan Tac-50.

Nightcrawler, those are both readily available for under $200, even less non graded (it's pretty easy to get things AFA graded yourself). Shoot me a PM, I can make some calls and hook you up.

Me, I focus primarily between 1982-1985 figs, the pride of my collection being a v.1 AFA graded storm shadow and v.2 afa graded snake eyes, and I'm about to pick up a v.1 firefly as well. Got a few mint in sealed box vehicles too, like Zartan on his swamp skier, the SHARC, and a few others...

Would you ever get the statues from ARH of Storm Shadow and Snake-Eyes. They are pretty nice.

One of our ex-sergeants told me his father laughed himself silly when he saw pictures of Roadblock (this right?) with a Browning BMG .50 as a personal weapon. I don't know why? I've slung it before.

I always kind of liked Scarlet and Cover-Girl.

I got "turned on" to comics before I could read by 2 older cousins. One was a Green Lantern fan, the other was into X-Men. But they had all titles. A huge trunk full.

For whatever reason, I got into Spider-Man. I had another cousin around the same age as me who was a Flash fan. My neighbor, a HUGE Conan fan. So we were always talking (or arguing) comics.

Anyway, Spider-Man was it for me. My father would take me to the ONLY comic store in the area from time to time. Birthday, good report card or high test score. I had a nice collection. Amazing Spider-Man issues 2, 5 (2 copies), 7, 9, 13, 15-up. I got hooked on the X-Men when I saw Byrnes art, same happened with DD. Byrne went over to Fantastic Four, so did I.

I wound up selling off that collection, little by little when I was 16-17 years old. I dropped the hobby by the time I was 20 completely.

In my mid 20's, I got back into it. I really did miss it. I had no intention of trying to rebuild my collection. I read Image as well as some Marvel and DC.

I had purchased DC's Sandman 1-10 off the stands and still had them. I walked into a comic shop in Manhattan and asked to trade. That was the beginning of the end...I walked out of there with Spectacular Spider-Man 1 with some others issues, Marvel Team-Up 1 with some other issues, Web of Spider-Man 1 with some other issues, as well as some other Spider-Man titles and mini series. I was hooked!

10 years later, I put together a really nice collection. You start trying to complete one run and when that's done, you move onto the next title and so on.
I recently sold my Avengers collection. I had a complete run. I kept 1, 4, 11, 57 and 100. Also annuals 7 & 10. The rest all sold on ebay.

Almost all my DC books are gone too. Kept a handfull (not even a full long box). Room is an issue with a collection this size. I had to down size.

So, it took me about 10 years to put my current collection together.

While I started a little after you did (around mid 70s) my story is fairly similar. While I had read (looked at the pictures) way before, Uncanny X-Men 109 was (is) the first book to really turn me on to comics in a big way. Started and stopped buying over the years. Read mostly for fun rather than serious collecting, but have managed to get all of Iron Man volume I and most of TOS and the later volumes. Also had a fairly respectable Byrne collection at one point.

Still that is one serious commitment and great collection you have. It's all I can do to stop from typing "Excelsior"!

It is funny how that the same part of my character that makes me horde stuff (whatever that happens to be at the time) is also responsible for my various collections.

I am the definition of an incurable collector (as my wife claims).

I have collected/still collect a lot of items but most have been pushed aside since I started more heavily in resin. Here are a few items:

DVDs - Comic based movies. Since getting the HT setup I want to get them all (along with other scifi related movies)

Action Figures - I get all Hulk and Iron Man figs that come out (stopped getting other characters)

Sports cards - hardly pick up cards these days. A handful of packs here and there. Maybe a box from the wife for Christmas of birthday. I have a mountain of cards that I need to go through.

Comics - working on a Captain America run right now. Other key silver and bronze issues. Started FF a while back but got derailed by comic statues. Still missing a few TOS issues

Godzilla - for about a year I was picking up figs, etc. Another casualty of resin (although getting Kongzilla is somewhat of a crossover). I would eventually like to have all the flicks on DVD

Die cast Camaros - I am a huge Camaro fan. I have a bunch of 1:64 and a good collection of Action Xtreme 1:24. I have quit chasing these lately (resin, again) but still pick them up at the toy section at Walmart, etc

Cincy Reds Bobbleheads - I have most of these ever put out except for a few from the 60's that are way to much for me.

miscellaneous toys, whatever interests me (I am trying to resist the dies cast cars from the movei "Cars"), etc. Just finished the HT room and would love to get some nice movie posters. Also colelct misc sports memoribilia. To sum it all up ... TOO MUCH :banghead: I am planning an eBay purge in the next year or so.

Yeah! I went to Lowe's last time they had orchids in. Man, they wanted alot of money for them. And they didn't look all that great, all wilted an dried looking. So, I went with something else.

Besides the obvious comics, sci-fi stuff, DVD's and autographs ... I know I'm going to get A LOT of flack for this ... I also collect Orchids and corals.

I love orchids, and those look great. I go to the Bronx Botanical Gardens every year to see the Orchid Show. I showed my wife the pic's she liked them too. So what about Roberta Flack?

Unfortunately JG, I have very little on display...at least until the wife and I close on this condo we've been eyeing. Until then, boxes and closet space for me...

But I did just pick up the new Batmobile from Corgi (Year 2000 #4, 1:43, which is sweet). Though Corgi is running late on a couple of other pieces. I have the rest of the Corgi line, some of the deluxe box sets, a Batman Begins, Burton's Batmoble (2x) Hot Wheels, one from the Animated Series, and some others I forget. Some of them are repeats, but I count them anyway. And of course the Batmarine doesnt count as an actual car, but it counts too!

I dont count the Jokermobile though (green version).

Jesse,
Those Orchids look nice! They're pretty hard to take care of?
They certainly are not cheap. I once had a Bonzai tree, but it died. So I bought a Jade plant which also died.
Then I bought some fish but they died(they were Goldfish-the fancy kind) Then I realized anything that comes into my presence has 0 chance of survival. :(
