I have around $200-$300 to spend on a camera. The pictures I will be taking will be of collectibles for review. As you can see, currently my crappy Nikon Coolpix is cutting the mustard (example (http://www.dccollectors.com/2012/10/review-the-new-52-cyborg-bust/)).

So does anyone have any recommendations to get some decent quality pics for the price-range above?

Lower-end GoPros. :D Ha.... no bias, here. Fantastic cameras/camcorders, though.

Or any Elph (Canon).... my Elphs last around a decade each, and I beat the sh!t out of cameras, taking them camping/surfing/etc. Plus, they have a TON of low-light/outdoor/indoor/framerate options, etc.

I don't know jack about cameras beyond those two.

People on here seem to enjoy Canon's "Rebel" series of cameras, also.... but that's exceeding your asking price.

The Nikon Coolpix P510 has been a pretty good purchase for me. Good bridge camera with macro to super zoom.

Got any statue pics with it you can show?

Haven't really been taking any pictures of statues, mainly landscape and architecture. I'll see if I can get a few for you over the comic days. Only have it a couple of weeks as an alternative to my SLR. Easier to carry around and don't have to worry about switching lenses.

I am a die-hard Canon user.

I shoot my photos and youtube video reviews with a 5D Mark II w/ a 24-105mm f/4L. This is of course way above you target price. What I'm getting at is that I would highly recommend a low-end DSLR with a, say, 50mm f/1.8 lens.

If not the above then at least go for one of the new hybrids.

Let me know if you have any question in this regard. :)

You can actually get the Canon s100 for $250 from Amazon now. I picked one of these up during Black Friday, just because the price was so great (down from over $400), and the fact you can stick it into your jeans pocket without noticing it's there. The pics aren't quite as sharp as my G15, even though it uses the same sensor, but for the size of this tiny camera, they aren't bad.

I took a few pics with it for the first time after seeing your post. Probably a good choice for someone looking for a camera in this price range that is also extremely portable. If portability is not a factor, you might want something with a more substantial lens.

My Canon PowerShot has been more than adequate for my statue reviews. However, I've generally been dependent upon good sunlight, close ups, and some futzing with the pics afterwards. It hasn't been a smooth easy ride. Also, whenever I tried to take pics of 3 or more statues at once, I started to lose some detail and clarity. Moreover, when I tried to take pics of highly detailed paintings, I lost clarity there as well, which often proved frustrating.

My next camera will need to be a SLR camera, probably a Nikon3 series, as they're becoming quite affordale now.

Canon PowerShot sd780is

I'm not sure if you've come across any statue pics I've taken over the past couple of years (I used an older cam prior to that), but this should give you an idea.

Holy smokes, just looking at my files, I must have taken pics for at least 200 statue reviews over the years. Boy, have you peeps been spoiled!!

:D

P.S. Ash, if you're content with these pics, then this digicam could be for you. I believe the later generations of this cam are presently selling for $100ish too.

where do you see it for $100.00? Everywhere I look it is $350+ if we are still talking about the Canon PowerShot sd780is

Hmmm, that's really odd. If memory serves, I only paid around $100-120 and that was about two years ago. It's discontinued now anyway as Canon presently produces an upgrade. Moving forward, look up "Canon sd780is" on eBay. There are lots of people selling it secondhand with "buy it now" prices of under $100.

That first link you posted to amazon is showing it for $339.00 and that second link isn't showing a price! Is that what you are seeing as well on Amazon? That is weird.

Oh and as for posting pics, thanks all for replying to this thread with the exception of rising star! :dork:

Also, did you have to make any settings changes to take those pics or is that straight out of the box?

PS thanks for posting the pics

Thanks all for the recommendations, I think I am going to save up a few more bucks and go with a Canon Rebel T3i. Again thanks for all the advice and pics!

That's a fine camera. You can get a cheap 50mm 1.8 for it. And just a standard zoom.

Hey guys,

Sorry if I'm invading the thread but would also love some camera advice because I'm in the market for one, would love to properly photograph my statues and just for general use. Narrowed it down to the three below, can anyone make recommendations on which on to go for?:

Fuji S3400
Nikon L310
Fuji Finepix S2995

Thanks!
