View Full Version : Thoughts on Flash/Grodd Statue

This arrived last night. Thank goodness it was an ebay purchase and relatively cheap. The piece just doesn't blow either me or the boy away. While the sculpt is pretty good, the positioning of the Flash is strange, especially if you look at it from the side or above. The scale is smaller than BD, so you can't display anywhere near. I've also noticed that the paint on the DC characters is basically primary colored, without blending or shadowing, which gives them more of a 2-D comic look that is almost candy like. The DC characters seem to live in this clean, primary colored universe (which in certain respects is a good and bad thing). That said, I think the solution is to display DC a good distance away from Marvel so that the changes in scale and paint style is not apparant. Will probably buy the upcoming GL and Superman over globe, but only off ebay for cheapers.

Anyone else get this? Opinions?

It`s dead on with the art but I don`t like turner`s art.
Wally looks like he`s been hanging out with Rafael Palmeiro.

Its one of my favorite statues and I think is better than some of the Marvel pieces I own.

The base is awesome too!
It grows on me more everyday.

I seen this at my LCS over the weekend. €200 is way too much. You guys in the states have it easy. Might try and pick it up on my visit:)

Does Wally West actually have green eyes? This was the first thing I noticed seeing the statue. The paint looks a little bright and has a plastic quality to it. The musculature is too heavy for the Flash and the Grodd base is just too distracting and large. Other than this, I think it is a very nice depiction of the character, but would have prefered a running action "tapping the speedforce" pose. Still waiting for mine to come in. Darn pre-orders!

I've got him and I think he looks good with the rest of the DCD statues. (By the way, many thanks to Jesse for encouraging me to pick up the Hal Jordan GL statue...it's awesome!)

I keep my DCD stuff in a separate curio from my Bowen stuff mostly because of the scale issue and also because the Bowen stuff tends to have more "realistic" paint apps and the DC stuff, as Nexus said, tends to be more primary colored and comic bookish (which isn't necessarily a bad thing).

This might have been one of the last statues I would be getting for DC direct for a while as well. Still trying to convince myself to get Hawkman to add to my Justice League bunch but not really sold on that just yet.

Flash does look nice displayed with the rest of the DC direct pieces.. although if you look at it at certain angles it may not look as good. I like the base.. need to display it low though to be fully appreciated.

Don't think he even blinked.

The pre-crisis Supes was pushing moons out of orbit on a lark. He way out powers even an enraged Hulk, but even he respected the power of the Hulk in that issue. This matter is kind of moot now that Superman is infinitely weaker.

I finally saw this at my lcs and it didn't impress me at all. The base just takes up way too much space! I just think Flash could have been better design!

Don't like this statue at all, they should have just made a Flash Statue standing there with a base not a BIG dead monkey. :rolleyes2

I got my Flash in the other day. You definately have to be a Michael Turner fan to like this sculpt. I think Grod looks really cool. Over all, I like it.

I really like the action pose. It tells a story. It has movement. Flash is not know for standing still. It is just that i do not like Turners design of Flash. Still tempted though.

This one has been on my wanted list for a long time, but I've just never found
the right deal on it to make me part with the cash. $125 would have done it though.
I've never seen it in person, but I sure like the looks of it from the pictures I've seen.

I know there are alot of Michael Turner fans out there, and I hate to say I think he's an overated artist. I never liked his work much because his storytelling (use of panels) is confusing, composition is not all that great, and poses or anatomy are usually off. Having said that, I had no interest in the Flash/Grodd statue piece. But when the statue finally came out and I saw it at my LCS, I bought one. I just thought the art translated to 3D was fantastic. Sure the Flash is too muscular, but that's just the way Turner draws.

I think it's true want you say about his storytelling and composition but i think he still his a very good cover artist and i would also like one of these flash statue
