Wow. Where were you in the 80s?!? :). One of the best villains ever!

As for the bust, looks good and really detailed but I was hoping for more of a Filmation / cartoon style. Purist in me. :)

I've always thought there was something cool about skeletons, and Skeletor has to be at the top of the list.

Although his cousins Red Skull and Cryptkeer are pretty cool too

But I'm already loving the realism this piece has - the amount and 'anatomy' of the teeth, bone structure, and the 'modern'/fantasy look

These 1:1's are fast becoming my favourite format.. the realism, crazy detail, etc.. they look like 1:1 prop/FX pieces

Agreed, Jerry's company has raised the bar on busts and statues IMO.

The more I look at this piece, the more I like it too.

well one of the best designed villains ever, he was pretty inept whiny and cowardly much like cobra commander :p Mumm-Ra was one of the few 80's bad guys that wasn't a whiny ----- most of the time, even if he did fail just as often

Between you and spazzy, if I was a statue maker...decision making on what style to go with would be all screwed up...

I say this in jest. Opinions are so varied. Its a wonder Jerry decides on just what style to go with.

This must have been what Jerry was referring to when he said he'd be doing the toon style and a realistic style.

I believe Jerry decided to go realistic on the 1:1 busts because life-like realism lends itself better to 1:1 scale compared to 1:4 scale.

Do or do not

Also will his eye sockets just be dark or will he have Red eyes ?

My wife is gonna kill me!

She specifically put the foot down regarding busts, and has a difficult time listening to me trying to justify high end purchases...

... but this thing looks beautiful so far.

I always loved Skeletor as a kid (although he did kinda creep me out), and I think this realistic direction is even better than what the 4H did back in 2002. I was actually looking for a second hand 4H statue (I wasn't doing high end pieces when it was released), when I stumbled across the teaser image.

Does anyone know if the cowl will be cloth rather than sculpted?

This has massive potential, and I can't wait for the reveal next month!

He was on Face Off the television show! Forget what seasons he was on there but he has mad skills! And he is founder of Pop Culture Shock Collectibles which has made Street Fighter line, mortal kombat act!

Google him online, and Jerry is such a humble great down to earth guy in the collecting world and cares a lot about his fans and what they think!

I know some people think this but honestly this would have been so much better in my opinion if it was based on Filmation. This just looks weird too me. Honestly if I didn't know it was supposed to be Skeletor I would think it was just a Skeleton in a cloak, nothing about this screams Skeletor to me.

I understand the whole 80s look but can one honestly want to pay $700 on a bust that looks so simple? IMO, this is the right approach for the bust 1:1 line.

I think the whole 1:4 filmation look is the wrong approach for PCS. How many people from that era would actually buy a statue. Far from few IMO.

For the 1:4 to survive and not have the same fate as Thundercats, the statues need more detail and complexity. It needs to capture the next generation of people who have disposable income. From what I see so far from He-man, it is a big let down. I don't want the 80s look and I'm from that era.

Just more detail and complexity doesn't make a statue great though. There are many simple statues that have great detail. Just to give you an example, Street Fighter have some of the most simple designs and complexity I have ever seen of a license of statues. That doesn't make them any less great! Meanwhile, you have some that absolutely pall over the Klassic, very, very, very, very........very simple Mortal Kombat designs and love them. And even though they are simple and not complex at all, it doesn't make the statue any less impressive.

Just to clear the air, I love the more complex and detailed designs of MK9, and likewise, I actually enjoyed the redesigned MOTU 200X a lot more than the Classic; BUT, that doesn't make the Classic any less impressive.

derekrodneysim

loricstone
08-14-2013, 12:12 PM
Furthermore, this just comes to show how many of these companies and sculptors are caught between a rock and a hard place when making statues.

Here are a lot of people state they want the 200X versions of MOTU instead of the Classic look, so it appears the 1:1 bust does just that, and then people complain and want the exact opposite of the 200X look..the Classic look.

Conversely, some want the extremely detailed 200X version of 1:4 statues over the Classic, but when the Classic is shown, some complain. I mean jeezus, talk about trying to meet a general consensus of people's expectations...whew!

Man, I don't know how it can be done but the pcs site needs to be revamped somehow. It's still a mess imo, needs to be more clear and the info needs to be on the site before the day of pre order. Anything would be better, even a simple design and product page like the sota site. Where it lists all the products and has the info and a "buy" button or a "sold out" sign.

Right now you look at the skeletor pic and it tells you to go to the site for more info.....and there is no more info. Under the "what's happening" the last thing is the smoke po and nothing about motu or even Dhalsim.

Well it doesnt look like either to me, and I'm upset cuz it looks like another one of those situations where the sculptor made his own version. And I don't want that. I want a statue of what I use to see on TV or comics. And I do think also that's the best idea for them to sell. Make them just like the original.
A good example is the lion-o premium format. That's another statue where its someone elses vision of lion-o. Instead of making it the original design. They added alot more detail to it than the cartoon ever had. Like fur on the body and all. And that statue is not one of the popular ones. It was still available on the sideshow website a few months ago. And doesn't sell for alot more on eBay.
Now the ninja turtles that sideshow made look just like the original designs. They didn't make their own versions. And those are popular. Sell for a lot and all.

Not interested in motu but a 1:1 bust of classic skeletor isn't even a feasible option imo. Look at the simplicity of it....would not work.

This bust looks awesome, some of you guys are smokin the good stuff.

The only reason I can't order this is because I don't know the character well at all and I never watched the cartoon as a kid. If I had that connection though I would be ordering this day one for sure. I don't understand why their is no pleasing some of you.

Just looking at this you can see the time and effort involved with it. It has amazing detail, multi-media and glowing eyes. Holly crap what else do you guys want?

An exact replica of how this looks in the cartoon would look like an inflated birthday balloon. Lets try and use some common sense here folks. Theirs also no need to be so dam rude and inconsiderate in your comments.

Well, I am a product of the 80's. I was the target audience for He-Man. And I loved it!

And it's my opinion that this bust looks Fantastic!

If the absolute Classic is what you thirst for, I have a few suggestions.

A) The 1/4 scale line is favoring the classic appearance.

B) Matty Collector.

C) Commission a statue in your vision. Because its absolutely impossible to please New school and Old school completely.

P.S. I'd just like to add that I was also a Mega ThunderCats fan. And the Lion O PF based on Ed Mcguiness's work is a MASTERPIECE.

Just my two cents.

It's the right choice to go with this sculpt. I really wish the 1:4 statues was the same style as this bust but sadly it isnt.

A couple of thoughts from someone who grew up obsessed with He-Man action figures and the cartoon.

First, I don't immediately think of Skeletor when I see it. I showed the pic to some fellow He-Man fans that had no knowledge of this bust or even this line, and none of them identified it as Skeletor on the first guess. I'm not sure if it's the updated attire, or perhaps the color/texture of the skull, but it's not emanating "SKELETOR!" the way I'm pretty sure it's supposed to.

However, the pic itself might be the issue. Could be a bad angle, the lighting is certainly not ideal, and most importantly, we can't see most of the skull yet. Just my 2 cents, no disrespect intended of course.

If you go to www.He-Man.org you can see the full reveal of the bust. Maybe someone can put up the pictures, because I don't know how.

I have to admit it looks better than I thought it would, very tempted.

Damn that looks majestic :drooling:

That screams Skeletor but with realism - the skull, the clothing texture, this is the more lifelike look I wanted, I love it

Cool thing about busts is in addition to having the more realistic look, they can also look like fx pieces, and I think this one catches that look

hmm ure right.. and also it says "up to".. maybe there will be a couple different payment options

Couple questions I'd like to know from Jerry before ordering are:

1) Will the eye sockets 'appear' the same on the EX as the reg when the LEDs are not lit?

2) Will the "ruby" part at the bottom front be a clear/transluscent cast? Or what effect will be done to give it that current look? It looks great on the proto, I just hope it would come with that almost glass look on the production piece

This is what I'm talking about. You want the absolute exact original versions, right? Well, many others like the newer more detailed look of the 200X cartoons. So how do you decide? A consensus was made from opinions of some of the general public that are interested in MOTU collectibles.

As far as the Turtles are concerned, they have a lot more staying power, and much more popularity than TCATS. Hell, they are doing movies and video games of Turtles still. Not so with TCATS.

It is a great price but still a little steep for me. I know you will have a payment plan of three options but have you thought about creating an option of 5 or 6? I may help out sales for people like me who could afford it but woudl be more comfortable with smaller payments.

Batteries. Electrical cords require an extremely costly government approval process that we cant afford on something like this.

We'd have to be doing 5000+ pcs to afford it.

The Scorpion EX bust is still in stock and there's only 100 of them, i'm amazed it didn't sell out especially after how amazing and well received the Sub-Zero bust came out.

The EX on Skeletor is 125 and isn't based on the original look, is there really enough He-Man fans that will drop $600 on a life size bust that doesn't look like the Cartoon?

Ordering the Scorp life-size was easy as pie and the site didn't crash once, be interesting to see if this has the pull.

I would in a heartbeat if I had the funds for it.

It took forever to get this effect right at the production level. The trick is the eye sockets need to look dark and scary when the lights arent on but be bright and creepy when they are on. But finally success !

He puts his heart into his sculpts, but at the end of the day, it has to be approved by his boss and mattel. But he will always give you 100% and these lifesize busts will not dissappoint. Just to add to what samueljd said: This was buried in the RoboCop thread from back in May. I'm unsure if Jerry has commented since.

Yes he looks great. We are having problems with packaging though. Its so large it falls into the oversized shipping which means it would cost $300+ for all international customers.

So we are considering separating the chest from the base to be able to package more effectively and avoid those costs.

Thats going to delay it a couple months.

I dont think it will ship until january. I hate to say it, but thats the honest truth.

Its just been very difficult to get a production piece to look as good as the prototype.

We are on track now, but we literally only began production a few weeks ago. We spent almost a year in development.

For those who don't get the newsletter:

As you can see many items have had serious delays. For this we apologize. Making hand crafted collectibles in low edition sizes often becomes trickier than we expect and when one item slows the production line down, it affects all of them.

The biggest issue has been getting the LEDs in the Skeletor Bust to glow like fire behind his skull and the find a way to package him so our international customers pay as little freight as possible. This has caused a massive delay but we are pleased to say all the problems have been worked out and he is well into production.

However, because of the unusually long delay we will be offering everyone who pre-ordered a Skeletor Bust before June 1st 2014 a $20 gift certificate on a future pre-order. Please note this cannot be used on existing pre-orders. To cash in your gift certificate, next time you pre-order an item send an email to customerservice@pcstoy.com and let us know you have a Skeletor Bust on order and we will refund you $20.

Now we are just trying to figure out how to get them here. Do we risk shipping them to Long Beach with the strike, or do we send them to the east coast and truck back to CA
