As much as I love this character I've been steering away from Sideshow PFs as of late, reserving purchases for my absolute favorites. I think the only Clone Wars character I'd buy in PF form would be Cad Bane.

well fist of the nose is longer which i stated already. to me it looks off. the thought did cross my mind that they are trying to go for realism and taking a whole different approach from the CGI art from what i can tell. and then there is the eyes. but again. if realism is what they are going for than i can understand why the likeness is off a bit.

and as i said. i thought that it was pretty cool for them to do what they did. but i personally would have liked to have seen them attempt to use the 3d character as the basis of the realism. but they choose to use an actor for that. which again is pretty cool. like Igo said. its a very difficult thing to do to have a 3d character represent realism.

Thanks yes with the new higher pricing it edges out the value. And most, I didn't say always will be lower after release when the market gets flooded. I do love saving even if it's only free shipping in the after market. :)

There was a time when people thought names like Han Solo, Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader were ridiculous too. :nuts:

More recently I remember people making fun of the names Darth Maul and General Grievous. Savage (pronounced Suh-VAAJ) Opress is much in the same vein. You don't hear people making fun of Maul or Grievous anymore. My point is these names grow on you. I actually wasn't a fan of any of them at first, but I love them all now.

Don't know much of this guy but I really appreciate that the sculpt is a realistic one, the CG for the Clone Wars serie is awful and ugly.
From what I get, he should be like a Maul on roids with different face tattoos and a light armour. Interesting, hope to see the new light up technology on a double lightsaber.

i wasn't talking about doing an exact animated style head. but one that only resembles that 3d portrait but in a more realistic style. like the one that is shown in the sneak. so in that case it would look just fine on the body. after all, we are talking about an alien here. id much rather see an animated head rendered in realism rather than that same portrait with a different expression.
i know Igo said its difficult to render an animated head to realism. but i think it can be done. specially with all the insanely talented sculptors they have.

I have a :rant: about all the complaint on this.

First obviously it isnt supposed to be an exact interpretation of TCW its not a silly looking CGI which for one im thankful for. So complaining about likeness is kind of a ludicrous endeavor.

For Star Wars collectors not much in the way of recent productions have been underway with any company. Mythos line is far and away one of the thee best artistic interpretations of characters I have ever seen that harkens to an EU feel and I hope that becomes a permanent line. Back on track...

There is not much to nothing available from the EU in terms of quality or along the story lines that coincide with the night sisters or witches of Dathomir and the legacy of the Sith and or Zabrak besides Maul and Talon.
Which brings me to another point. People seem to clamor over characters that have little to no story interaction i.e the Chalmun's Cantina and Jabbas palace its been that way since Hasbro started releasing figures for the SW reboots.

Talon and Maul are revered and sought after but Talon was only in a few comics and Maul had even less story interaction in the trilogy than Opress does in TCW. I cant see the validation in saying hes not an important character. He is tied in to many characters in TCW and the story line would have suffered without his presence.

Just seems to me that SW fans especially Sith fans and darkside complete-ists would be stammering for this SW piece since they have been few and far between yet its welcomed arms seem to be few. Malgus and Ti have both been sell outs I dont see this being any different.
From the single picture it sure looks bad a$$! :buttrock: Price is just a real world factor that we all must abide by I get that I fall in that realm as much as anyone but this is pretty much a must have and im really surprised more do not feel the same.

Unless it fails horribly on some level for whatever reason (dont see that happening) I hope the desire for this and appreciation of it is increased with the full reveal as Id love to have more EU characters that are a labor of love and not of price like I feel this guy is.

I just came to correct my statement lol.The image size I had been looking at were small. The running board on the platform at a small resolution looks like a saber blade. Neither, it just is what it is. It used to be things sold out pretty quickly so you had to be paying attention or you ran the risk of missing out. Not so much anymore.

Plus I'm pretty selective nowadays and not really a fan of NRDs so I'll often wait until a piece sells out and then go on the Wait List. They usually convert and it gives me a bit more time to decide if it's something I really want.

Collectors that are currently living in a country that cannot buy Optimus directly from Sideshow should (Should being the key word) have options available to them (either through Prime 1 Studio direct or an official distributor of theirs in their territory).

There is a happy medium. I too am not a fan of the ridiculously hard to obtain collectable, more often than not the lions share of pieces snapped up by those looking to cash in on other hobbyists.

If a piece is strong enough there will be folks that will demand it once it is gone and it will command a premium if the owners are reluctant to let them go.

I used the bus reference (perhaps not terribly appropriate) to describe how I felt I was being unfairly looked upon as secondary-class collectors with limited options despite having spent a small fortune over the years as a dedicated Sideshow fan.

Thank you for the explanation, Alex. I emailed Customer Service and I did not get a reply. It wasn't the first time an email got ignored. I'm still not thrilled that collectors from our territory weren't able to acquire a Sideshow exclusive and I hope in future there will be a better solution that gives everyone a chance to buy regardless of which part of Earth somebody's stuck in.

I am worried about the saber being too long and snapping. It looks to be almost touching the floor. I know some had the same issue with ventress.

I like it overall and will be purchasing it locally to save some dough.

on second thought it might be the prototype after all for they lst all who was involved and who painted it. so this could be the prototype. but hopefully Igo will chime in at some point.

Yep snad was correct, The reveal was a prototype but those shots above is actual production piece said by the man IGO himself! I like the base but not sure about pose yet, but this looks killah though and this will have double saber using the new neon light technology! I'm sold, my guess $399.99???

Also, just to let you guys know, the pictures that show up in the full gallery will be photography done from a China sample, not the prototype... and he looks great.

Yes looks like he just had cut whatever that was as it's fresh as you can see how warm the steel or whatever it was that was cut ! Looks bad ass if you ask me!!

i gotta say. the portrait looks incredible. i wasn't so sold on it when i first saw it during the sneak image. but man i got to hand it to Igo and the SS team. they kicked total ass on this. yeah i would have been cool to have an animated based portrait. but no need for it now after seeing the full reveal. im totally impressed.

BUT yet again the pose! it's a bit wtf! I mean what exactly is he doing? it doesn't look like he just cut through the base and there's just no natural movement there :thinking: honestly, I don't know how some of these poses get past the drawing board let alone to production.

Yeah when I first hit the on switch on our Darth maul LSF I was in awe as it lights up and powers down just like on the movies thanks to sideshow now using real neon lights instead of the old led light sabers which barely lights up half the sabers (see Vader light saber)!

I thought the LSF was only going to receive this treatment but now it looks like any if the newer Star Wars PFs (Aayla Secura, shaak to and now savage oppress) which all look incredible!

And I agree with the comment it would be nice to see another maul PF because when you put maul next to oppress people's attention will advert to opress!!! I have lots of the older star wars PFs and I would sell all of them if I knew they were making star wars figures 2.0 with updated materials because stuff they do now compared to ten + years ago is jaw dropping difference!!

pose is fine. depicts he is on the prowl. ill agree with how the light saber is positioned though. should have been angled more bringing the tip of the saber on the bottom up higher to where it is at the end of the cut in the base to give it the appearance he just cut it.
but then again. he could have just cut it and then just moved his saber down to relax a bit to survey and coordinate his next move?
