Cinemaquette just threw up the images of the Alien at their site:
http://www.cinemaquette.com/cgi-bin/cinemaquette/premiere.html

I did see it at San Diego in that case and it is so big its scary - its too bad these things arent articulated - man you could have one awesome fight between Arnie and the Alien...lol!

The Cinemaquette page loads so slow. It's so unproffessional to have such poor bandwidth. Anyway, this piece looks okay.

looks great and i would get it but $2000!!!! come on be realistic not all of us collectors are billionaires. Unless they make only a couple hundred I can't see them selling out. Or are there models made to order?

They will probably only sell four of them:

Detroit, P1, cap, and me. ;)

Cool looking for sure BUT, not for $2000. Even a die-hard fan could get plenty on Alien stuff for $2000 and have more to look at. I sure like the stuff they are putting out but I can't justify the prices.

Gruson
08-16-2005, 01:57 PM
Yeah, at $2000, I will most likely not get it.

I would prefer they keep prices around the $1k mark.

RichardW
08-16-2005, 02:02 PM
I wish they were in the $750-$1000 range.

Since the first statue, they've increased the price with each piece. $1000 -> $1200 -> $1500 -> ????

I agree with everyone else. $2000 is too pricey for this. I'm not saying I'm 100% not going to get it, but given everything else I have coming, it's highly unlikely.
With us backing out, maybe they won't sell any.

Jamesways

I would really like to get this, I just don't know if I could justify the price to myself. I mean, both the ultra rare marmits cost me under a grand, and I had a tough time with that. If it were even 1400, I would jump, but 2 grand? I don't it's worth it to me.
It does look great though, quite movie accurate- exact to the suit in the museum, even the cracking latex under the back of the dome (the suit is breaking down). They should have left that smooth like the movie, but in order to be accurate to the current prop...

I agree too: that's too much money, however I won't saying I'm 100% not getting it, even if I do not think so. Good thing is that if this is going to be $2000, that will be available for a while (I guess) :)

In a second, I thought that the price of 2 K was for their 1/3 Predator ? :inquisiti

Gruson
08-16-2005, 05:17 PM
My guess is Alien $1800 and Predator will be $2000 (if not more).

Since this is Stan Winston Studios, maybe they will release that T-Rex maquette from JP. ;)

I would pay good money for it!

$2000 that's way off price for me..I really don't think that's worth it..I already thought they were reaching the upper limits with $1500...but $2000 that's just plain dreaming..Unless you have a lot of money to burn you wouldn't even think about getting this fig..=)..I don't think it worth it..I can make a great 7 figure diorama with premium format SS figs with that..if i get the cheaper 1/4's maybe even 10 pcs or more..not worth one alien..

If this piece was $1,000 I'd be all over it, but there's just no way I can justify $2k. The T-X is seeming more and more like a good value for the money. I REALLY wish the T-800 was also $1k, since that's my favorite piece shown so far. I think Indy will be my first purchase from these guys as long as Sideshow doesn't get the 1/4 license.

nexus
08-23-2005, 11:33 AM
Too much for me to blow. That's like 40 mini-busts. I'm sure Sideshow will make one for 1K. I'll have to see a SS piece side-by-side with a Cinemaquette to justify the upsell. Now sure how long Cinemaquette is gonna last in the biz, so sitting on the sidelines for now. Gadz, their site loads slow too (I'm usually connected around 3-5 Mbps). I think it might originate in Japan, so you have to do some fancy routing around the WWW to get there, thus the bottleneckin.

Anyone know when we'll be able to order the CM Alien?

El Diablo
01-02-2006, 11:11 PM
I can`t see this piece selling very well at all. To be honest I don`t think it even looks that great, i`ll stick with my palisades alien queen signature statue (especially at about a tenth of the price!). Wonder what CM will do if it does sell really bad, can`t see them cutting the price. I just hope indy isn`t priced similar, though I don`t see any reason why it should be more any expensive than the arnie CM.

Gruson
01-02-2006, 11:18 PM
I feel the opposite...I love this pose and have been very impressed with every CM piece so far (except the Aragorn of course).

90% sure I will get the Alien.

The Palisades piece did nothing for me. You should check out the Sideshow Queen bust...it's much better quality.

It`s not pose I dislike it`s just that on every CM piece to date there was something special about them in the detail that made me go wow! e.g. arnie`s amazing likeness, the insane detail on the t-800 etc. and looking at the pics of the alien on the CM site I don`t see any more detail on it than I have on pieces costing a fraction of the price

cap70
01-03-2006, 12:04 AM
El Diablo, I see your point. That's the design of the original Alien. Not too much "details" on it. Kind of "busy" detailed body, other than the head, even a little hard to see since it's all black. I much prefer the design of the Alien Queens, though, but I'm a huge first Alien fan so I may end up paying this fortune and getting the CM one! :banghead:
By the way, anyone here have the Sideshow Alien 1:1 Head? I got it recently from a forum friend(that keep me asking for pics! :) ) and it's an awesome piece!

Sigh. 2K.

As said in Bladerunner. "not many can afford such quality".

For 2K it better run around the house and bleed acid!
I want chestbursters coming out of people for 2K!
Or a full size costume.

dang. WHAT COSTS SO MUCH TO MAKE THIS STUFF?

Is it licensing? Its a giant action figure for crying out loud. Ok, thats harsh, Its a work of art. I know. But jeez its pop culture.

Hey, I know stuff costs money sometimes. But that is too much for a dust collector. I love these movie creations as much as the next nerd but my spider sense tells me spending that much money on eye candy just doesnt make spider sense. I mean they are obviously going for the very wealthy collector market, and the I love Aliens more then anything crowd. Hey, thats cool. We all got something that pushes our gotta have it button. I have a pinball machine that is in that price range.

I make decent money, no kids. I can blow a little now and then. But I can get a lot of junk for 2K over a years time.

I dont think Parker and Brett would have spent their bonus on this.

Gruson
01-03-2006, 02:14 AM
Too much money....maybe. I think $1200 would be a better price for it and more people would buy.

But, check out the pics again, the detail of the entire body looks great to me. Giger worked very close with CM on creating this piece.

Ask some of the guys here if the endo is worth the $1500 people are paying for it. ;)

I am going to call them tomorrow to see if I can find out what the price will be.

I would pay $2000 EASILY for my CM Endo. This thing is so freaking awesome that one needs to see it in person to believe and trully apreciate the work that CM/Stan Winston did on it. Nothing comes close. This one and my T-850 are already my favorite pieces in my entire collection, and I do have a lot of "high-end", high-priced things.

I am a huge alien fan but I feel 2000 would be excessive. Because its alien I see myself stretching to the 1500 range if necessary but I will be gunning for 1000$ and I will be in no hurry at all.

Now if cm did ripley in underwear I'd preorder that at 2000 in a heartbeat.... but thats just me :D

I agree and that`s why i`m paying £1k for my t-800 (over $1700 and pre-ordered last june) and why i`ve just payed £700 for the T-X (arriving this week :buttrock: ). The detail on these pieces is awesome, not to mention the use of real metal. And I agree with what you said about the design of the original alien, which is why I can`t understand why they are charging so much for it. But my main concern is that I hope they don`t charge over the top for the indy and predator.

lancelin
01-03-2006, 12:34 PM
My thought process is simplier. I do not really care about the price of the piece provided the following:

I tell myself I will never drop more money in collectables than my home theatre spending. After all, they will be in the same room and it's kinda weird to have these "complements" to the home theatre room to be more expensive than the home theatre setup. (Setup includes the cabinets, sofas, etc)

Thus, as my financial abilities increases, I can spend more to buy more stuff.

If I exceed the amount, I will either sell off ones I do not like anymore to keep within the budget if I am to purchase a better or newer item.

Anybody else thinking of cancelling the SS Predator? I love it, but it will be out of scale with the CM's. I guess I can buy it, and then sell it when the CM Predator comes out, which probably won't be for a while now.

No, I didn't cancel it. It's the Exclusive version. I decided to keep it simply because the CM Predator won't be out for a long time, and it will probably be too expensive for me anyway. I'll stick with the SS for now.

I wish I could say the same thing. I had to cancel my Predator Excl. as I wanted to buy CM item. No other choice: just bought a house and with a wife who's still studying, I had to make sacrifice (bye Attakus collection except Vader 1 and emperor).

But these Cm are really worth of it. And even if the delivery time makes me :banghead: mad, I am glad for the moment it is that long, in my situation (big house -> so big money!!!!). Anyway, for my attakus coll. I'll still have time to get back later...to someone who 'll buy a house and have his collection sold :eplus2:

This is indeed true. Last paragraph:
http://www.action-figure.com/index.php?name=News&file=article&sid=19057

"The fifth piece to be released is Aragorn was on display.

Toynami have worked very closely with Richard Taylor from WETA who created all the costumes and weapoary for the LOTR films.

They have recreated the real metal chainmail outfit with over 3000 links in the armour.

Real leather outfits with detailed stitching.

Real metal sword and accesories.

Over 2000 human hairs stitched into his silicon head.

It will be released later in 06 for $1500.

Sixth in the line up is Captain Jack Sparrow who was premiered here in an unfinished state but looked close to completion.

They have the licence for all the PotC franshise but are releasing this one based on Jacks look in the first film and it looks stunning.

No Photography was allowed of Aragorn or Jack as it was a work in progress piece but we all agreed its looks absolutly stunning and will blow away all who see it and will be a fantastic centrepiece to any collection."

"HR Giger himself will be signing each piece and the base will have a signed plate on every product endorsing this as the most authentic Alien ever produced in any scale limted to only 1000 pieces worldwide due out in about a month."

I think since SWS is making both, they don't want to take away sales from the SS version. We'll probably see it first at SDCC. I'm betting the CM will be basically the same as the SS version, just in 1/3 scale and maybe with a few new features. And interchangable heads, of course. :)

Well I'm new to Cinemaquette, but I've been mighty impressed with what I've seen and heard of their products so far, so I've taken the plunge and ordered the CM Alien. I've no idea when it will arrive or how long I'll have to wait, but I'm sure the end product will be worth a little patience. ;)

As far as accuracy goes, I'm been a collector of merchandise from the Aliens movies for some years now, and very rarely has a piece captured the menace and poise of the creature from 'Alien'. (The best so far continues to be the Japanese Marmit 'B' pose statue, which shows the creature unfurling and preparing to attack. That statue continues to be the best, IMO.)

The CM piece is not completely faithful to the movie, despite Giger's involvement (he also approved and signed the 1/2 scale HCG head, which looks quite different to this one) but it does capture the eerie grace of the creature, which is very tough to do. The size also makes it very imposing. Certainly one of the best renditions to date. :)

cap70
03-20-2006, 11:54 PM
Yes, Giger signed the HCG piece, wich I had(I actually own their 1:1 version), but I don't think Giger ever said it was the most accurate piece ever produced. And that's only a head.

Skulpturen
03-21-2006, 08:48 AM
I don't think so. I mean, he doesn't _need_ that. He could simply just ignore the piece or don't say it was the most accurate piece ever. And I bet he isn't getting too much $$$ from CM either. He worked close with CM on this piece, shaping up all the details and everything else. That's to me speaks a LOT. Imagine B. Fraud working together with some company to make some DC pieces for ya, would you like it? ;)

Froud doing DC pieces would be great but wouldn't mean they would be movie-accurate. I guess, they would be the way Froud likes them. ;)

Just as this piece is for me the way Giger and CM like it. Also, somehow the pose doesn't do it for me. I mean the ALIEN creature never had this pose in the movie. I checked every frame (in the ALIEN PHOTO NOVEL, 1979) and haven't found this pose.

For me a movie statue should have a popular pose from the movie it is based on.

IMO this is still the coolest ALIEN statue:

Details and colors aren't as good as CM but pose and poroportions are perfect.

If anyone has one for sale PM me. Thanks!

Ah! The Marmit statue. They were re-reased and available 2 years ago and i missed it. Damn me!

Regarding the CM Alien piece (that I have on order). I would have prefered a pode in the style of Takeya's one, which is the best ever pose for me. Dangerous and menacing but elegant.

As for the detail I'll tell you IMO were is the miss. The back of the head drops too much and its a bit too big. If you overlay any profile pic of the original alien and the CM one is really obvious. This did not happened in the 1/4 Giger head, so i simple cannot understand why they got it wrong. The form of the head is so particular, complex and unique that's probably why many sculpts (minus the Marmit and Sega) don't get it well done.

There is a pose of the Alien in the movie simmilar to the CM one. When Lambert and Parker are taking the gas bottles, when the Alien turns to attack Parker suddenly before finishing Lambert.

Cool statue Skulpturen. :thumbs2: It must looks cooler in person, but I think the pose is a downside of this piece, otherwise, it's awesome. Can't wait for the CM version, besides the great size and authenticity of it, the menacing pose is also a key element that made the piece.

Well IMHO, as I said earlier, the Marmit 'B' Pose (stooping) is the best rendition of the Alien yet and beats the CM version when it comes to capturing the creature's unique body language (it was seen in the movie usually uncoiling from enclosed spaces).

I find the CM's pose to be a little generic, and it seems to be a pose that might suit the creature from 'Aliens' a little better (which was a much faster, more dynamic predator). I think it's also fair to say that they've been faithful to the 'spirit' of Giger's design rather than its realisation on film, since they've elongated and slimmed down the creature's limbs in a way that wasn't possible in the movie because of the constraints of having to have an actor inside the costume.

Having said that, nothing so far approaches the detail of the CM Alien, and although the head may not be 100% faithful to the movie version, it's one of the most pleasingly proportioned renditions so far. (If you want to see how NOT to do it, check out Palisades' 16" tall 'Signature Edition' Statue, which got it completely wrong!

I think Cap sums it up when he says:

Sure, it may be not 100% perfect(but then which statue is 100% accurate??) but all I can say is that this is the most impressive and accurate Alien piece ever made.

Agreed, and that's why I want it. :)

PS. The Marmit -- at 10" tall cost about $400. If you can find the original issue of it (the black version, which was better quality) it will likely set you back $800. That makes the 31" CM Alien not seem like such bad value?

Yup, you should. I can guarantee you that Giger would NEVER make these statements or sign this piece as the ultimate Alien if it wasn't accurate. You can be sure it is. ;)

And G, you need to see the movie again, you defenetly forgot about it. ;)
The picture you posted looks fatter cause there was someone inside it in the end and other parts of the movie. The Original Alien puppet, that also apears in the movie, it's pretty slim. You can see that every manufacturer that makes the Alien, be it a statue or toy, makes him with a very slim profile. That's the way Giger designed it.
Check the Quadrilogy DVD. There's a photo arquive in there. You will be amazed at how perfect this CM looks to the original. If it didn't look so perfect, I wouldn't buy it. ;)

Ditto. I watched Alien recently: Damn, this piece is really what we see on screen, and I agree with the statement which is; if Giger himself told this was the best Alien prop from the first movie, that should be true. ;) Definately a must have too, but not for the moment.

Well to sum up, the things that sold it for me are the detailing, the paint app and the size. The pose I'm not 100% on yet, as I think it would have been nice to see something uniquely ALIEN in body language, but to be fair this is something that's hard to assess from pictures. As a fan and collector, I do think that overall it's the best yet and that's enough to make it an absolute must-have for me personally. ;)

I can't help thinking how cool it would be to rig up a display for this guy that included some strobe lighting as seen in the Nostromo at the end of the movie -- now that would really bring the nasty sucka to life, hehe! :D

agree with robomorph. The Japanese Marmit "B" pose is the best Alien sculpture iv'e seen, the pose and paint looks awesome, especially the pose very accurate. This to me looks like the scene when he comes down from the ceiling and kills Lambert, right before Parker jumps the Alien from behind. I was looking for two of these a couple of weeks ago but could not find one. Anyone know where I can buy one? This Alien is about 8 inches tall correct?Well I'm new to Cinemaquette, but I've been mighty impressed with what I've seen and heard of their products so far, so I've taken the plunge and ordered the CM Alien.

Get any bunch of Alien fanatics together and you'd quickly find that -- certainly until now -- the Marmit 'B' Pose Alien (especially the earlier issue) is regarded as the Holy Grail of Alien statues. Trust me, it actually looks a whole lot better in the flesh, as the flash has distorted the colour and wiped out the detail in the shot posted here. Remember though that it is a very small statue in relation to the CM, so the surface detail is never going to be as great.

Regarding the sculpt, what is so clever about the Marmit pose -- other then capturing the essence of the creature's body language as seen in the movie -- is that it hides those elements that reveal it to be a man-in-a-suit (always the problem with the first ALIEN creature) and enhances those aspects whch make it truly otherworldly (the head profile, the dorsal tubes). That's smart thinking to my mind.

The CM's pose (arms raised, knees buckled) would suit many other monsters rather than being one that's individual to ALIEN, and it's the one aspect that caused me to deliberate a little before ordering. But as I've already said, it's really not enough of an issue to put me off, as the positives far outweigh it.

PS. If you want to find a Marmit, ebay is the best source, but watch out for Hong Kong bootleggers, as these things were extensively copied a while back, and to quite high quality. Good luck!

I really like the look of the CM piece. I can't afford one right now as I just moved, but I am definitely up for getting one in the future. No denying the detail and sculpt on that badboy- incredible.

To each their own indeed though. I own both the Marmits and actually love the poses. To me, the Stoop pose is perfect for Giger's vision. When it comes down from the chains to kill Brett, and just rises up slowly- that's a classic image of the monster. When it's stooped down, the first time you see that, you don't know what it is or what to expect.

And I like the A type pose too. I actually shortened the inner jaw so it fits within the mouth. I never understood statues and kits that had the jaw out, the only time it was out was when it was killing, or threatening Ripley at the end. It's not like the Nostromo alien or the ones from the second movie ran around with the jaw hanging out...

Anyway, pics...
I should probably take some better ones sometime.

Yeah, I never liked the 'A' pose Marmit too much since it again falls into the trap of featuring a generic 'movie monster' stance that speaks nothing of the Alien's character.

The 'B' pose, on the other hand, speaks volumes of the creature's behaviour and biology, all the way from it's origin and gestation through to its predatory methods. Psychologically, it's also far more interesting, as you see a threat being unveiled rather than just a monster lashing around with teeth and claws out.

But anyway, if I do manage to get the CM, I'll hopefully be in a position to admire the qualities of both side-by-side, since I think both are terrific renditions. :)

The marmits aren't terribly detailed, and I totally agree with you about the size thing too. I am really liking the Attakus scale or bigger.

The CM piece looks like it will be a great alien piece to have, without a doubt.

robomorph
03-21-2006, 03:41 PM
Well I'll almost certainly be ebaying my 'A' pose Marmit, since I don't think it holds up next to more recent renditions (even the ultra-cheap Segas outdo it, IMO). The 'B' pose I'll hang onto, because I do think that it captures a movie moment so very well.

But, briefly going off-topic a moment, all of this poses an interesting question regarding collecting itself:

When a definitive high-end replica comes onto the market, does one then dispense with everything in one's collection of lesser impact and quality? Frex, if you buy the CM Alien, does that then make the rest of your Alien collectables (Marmit, Sega, Sideshow, X-Plus, Model Kits, God knows what else) redundant and disposable? Does The Sideshow Dr Doom make the Bowen statue surplus to requirements? Do most of us here want only ONE definitive version of a movie/comic character, or is there room on our shelves for various interpretations? What should the ideal collection be?

Just curious as to what people's thoughts are on this, because I'm having to make some tough decisions right now on what I actually want/have room to keep! ;)

I personally only buy what I feel is the best piece out there.

Example, I have the SS endo but once I receive the CM endo, I will sell the SS endo.

Many people, like Ray, collect more than one piece though. I think he has every version of the endo on order, including the full 1:1 SS piece.

I also hate clutter so would never want a bunch of pieces crowded together.

For me personally, the lesser items are disposable. I would rather have a collection of that isn't very large but consists of all CM type products. I only buy multiples of a certain character if it is a different element of that character. For example, I have the Sideshow Darth Vader Exclusive, and my Master Replicas Darth Vader Ep. One point that needs to be considered is that the cinemaquette piece is a fairly accurate reproduction of a 25 year old deteriorated suit, not the "fresh" one used in the film. look here for an example of what I'm talking about: http://thehiveforum.net/forum/index.php?topic=6.msg215#msg215

The Marmit B pose ('99 version in particular) is a specific pose from the movie, as was mentioned earlier, and is a VERY accurate piece of the suit used during production of the movie. That is why it is not all mottled looking like the Cinemaquette piece. With only 250 pieces made for a Japan-only market, it is extremely rare.

Quite right, and it's also something that put me off the statue a little at first, because it's clearly NOT a replica of the Alien that we saw in the film, (in either detail or pose) but rather a reproduction of the suit as it appears in the Giger Museum now.

I would personally have preferred to see the creature depicted as he was seen in the movie, but using the contemporary suit as a basis seems a very popular move, as Sideshow did the same thing with their 1:1 Bust too.

Again, in the end I can live with it, but it again leaves the way open for the definitive Alien statue, which would be completely movie-accurate.

I personally think that the CM version it's MUUUUUCH more movie accurate and a hundered times more detailed than the clearly inferior marmit toy. When I saw Alien for the 100th time a couple of weeks ago that seemed very clear to me. Like other people said before, there's simply no comparisson at all. Because, Cap, it's possible to admire and want something without completely detaching one's critical faculties.

I don't think any more explanation than that is warranted.

Good. Make sure to post lot's of pictures once you get yours. :thumbs2:
And like I said before, there's no 100% perfect replica EVER made in the "consumer" price range.

Oh I will. :) Tho it may be a little while after you receive yours by the sound of it.

So when people that NEVER posted here before jumps in and starts to nitpick on things.

LOL! Well I'll take that as directed at me, and respond simply by saying that I will call it like I see it, even though that might mean 'raining on some folk's parades', as you put it. Because I contend that it's possible to think something worthwhile while at the same time recognizing its flaws.

As an Alien/Aliens collector of over 20 years experience, my view is that the CM Alien is a worthy (probably the most impressive yet) rendition, which is why I want it. However, it's also a missed opportunity, since the pose is generic movie-monster and the costume is DEFINITELY not movie accurate. Not even a question at all about that. (For example, look at the movie creature again and you'll see that the back of the dome should be clean and smooth, not look like degraded rubber.) That's only one of several inaccuracies, all of which I can live with, as I've already said.

Sure, I could say it's utterly marvellous and perfect, but I wouldn't be honest, and I like to think this is a place where one can be honest and at the same time respectful of other people's views.

You think it's awesome, Cap, that's great, you're probably going to get bigger bang for your buck than I will. Good for you. For myself, I'll display it and admire it and wait hopefully until another--perhaps the definitive--Alien statue appears.

And I know I ain't the only one.. ;)

 What museum is THAT? I just looked through all 83 pictures, and I'm blown away. I'd literally beg, borrow, and steal for some of that stuff.

Wow, just look at all the other galleries, too. New bookmark created. :buttrock:

Edit: Actually that looks like a Planet Hollywood. Is that PHArchivist's site?

I personally think that the CM version it's MUUUUUCH more movie accurate and a hundered times more detailed than the clearly inferior marmit toy. When I saw Alien for the 100th time a couple of weeks ago that seemed very clear to me. Like other people said before, there's simply no comparisson at all. Now let's not turn this into a marmit thread cause it's not.

I agree it's very detailed, and very accurate...to the suit in the museum.

I'm not trying to turn this into a Marmit thread, I'm just responding the numerous posts that compared the two pieces. ;)

P.S. It's great you all are friends, but that shouldn't prevent new peeps from stating their opinions, whether you like it or not...

I have to agree with you.
Sorry Cap ;)

C'mon guys, CM did a much better job with the TERMINATOR pieces.

I still like this CM ALIEN, and it's deffinitely the best one (quality-wise).
