“A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.”
- Coco Chanel

Hi guys,

I have got to tell you something great. I was able to add the Emma Frost statue from the Marvel Bishoujo series by Kotobukiya to my collection yesterday and I am very happy with it.
(Note: Bishoujo is a Japanese word which means 'pretty girl')
So far I have steered away from the Bishoujo series but when I saw the Emma Frost statue for the first time I just know I had to add this statue to my collection.
What I especially like about this statue is the great pose of Emma. It's a semi-action (or semi-museum if you would prefer that description :D) pose which to me shows Emma using her powers in a realistic and 'lifelike' way.
With her left arm stretched out and her hair and cape flowing around as if set into motion by an invisible force, it's easy to imagine Emma projecting psionic force bolts into the minds of her opponents.
This is Emma at her best and this is when she is most dangerous: lashing out full force with her unique mutant abilities and making whoever's stupid enough to oppose her, feel the full wrath of a furious Queen! :buttrock:

Besides the pose there is a lot more to like about the statue.
To start with the obvious Emma looks fantastic and very sexy in an anime, manga kind of way. I am not the biggest manga-fan around but do think Emma looks absolutely gorgeous. Emma has the face of an angel and the body of a top-model and when you combine these two the result is mind-blowing.
Woohah, women like Emma are real head-turners and in order to make me feel this way Emma did not even need to use her powers on me. Just a quick glance at me was all it took... :D

Besides the great pose and well captured beauty of Emma, I also very much liked the paintjob and the delicate sculpture with attention for small details. Emma's top with the famous X-Symbol is beautifully sculpted just like her cape and long boots.
One could say that the statue has a relatively simple paintjob since Emma's costume is mostly white but even so I still believe Kotobukiya did a great job here.
The paintjob is solidly good when looking at her white pants and gloves but is equally impressive when looking at her red lips and blue eyes.
If there is one thing in which the paintjob could have been a bit better it would be the skin tones of Emma's belly, back and shoulders.
Emma's skin colour is a bit too much pale white for my liking and I would have loved if she would have a little bit more of a tan. It would have made Emma look even better than she already does and it would have added more realism to the statue since a wealthy women like Emma most definitely will visit mundane and sophisticated seaside resorts like Monaco or Acapulco Beach in Mexico.

All in all this is a great statue of one of the most powerful female characters in the Marvel Universe.
The statue is not very big (it is a 1/8 scale statue and Emma stands approximately 8 inches tall) but it is a very delicate and beautiful sculpt with an impressive paintjob.
Since I believe it is important to let you make up your own mind, I will post some pictures shortly to enable you to judge for yourselves.
But before I do that I would like to shout out a big THANK YOU! to Jos (http://www.visiontoys.nl) for enabling me to add this gem to my collection.
Thanks Jos, it was a pleasure meeting you and I hope we will meet again in the future!

Now then, let's pay the beautiful and dangerous Miss Emma Frost a visit.
Enjoy the pictures and have fun!

My verdict

Sculpt: 9 out of 10
What's good: Emma is sculpted in a very delicate, powerful and sexy pose. Emma is not only one of the most powerful telepaths in the Marvel Universe but she also has the looks of an absolute topmodel and the sculpt based on an illustration of Shunya Yama----a, manages to capture both aspects of Emma very well.
Emma looks gorgeous but her flowing hair and cape are equally impressive.
What could be better: It would have been great if the statue would have been a bit larger since I think the pose is excellent. Emma would look awesome if she was 12-13 inches tall.
Besides that the fact that the statue is not made of resin but of PVC might be a deal-breaker to some fans and collectors.

Paint (application): 8 out of 10
What's good: The paintjob is very good when looking at Emma's costume, the base and Emma's blond hair, blue eyes and red lips. The X-Symbol on Emma's costime looks really nice as well. Emma's costume is not plain white but it has a blueish, silvery shade to it... very nice!
What could be better: Emma has a pale skin colour and I would have loved if Emma would have had a bit more of a tan.

Base: 6 out of 10
What's good: The base is in itself relatively simple and straightforward showing Emma standing outside on rubble and stones.
You can imagine Emma opposing her foes in the streets of New York when looking at the base.
What could be better: The base on my statue is a little wobbly and I would have loved an X-themed base or at least a little bit more complex base.

Accuracy (size comparison, likeness, extras, etc.): 9 out of 10
What's good: This is the manga version of Emma Frost and she looks absolutely stunning. Her costume is very well done and Emma's hair is beautifully sculpted.
What could be better: I honestly would not know... when I look at the statue I see Emma in her full glory.

All in all an average score of 8.00 which is good score for a beautiful statue. Recommended!

Emma Frost was born into a wealthy old Boston mercantile family that arrived from England in the 1600s. The second of three daughters, Emma also had an older brother named Christian who had turned to substance abuse as an escape from the drudgery of his life. Unknown to their family or themselves, the three Frost sisters were mutants whose telepathic abilities matured upon reaching puberty.

When it came time for their father to choose a worthy heir to the family fortune, Christian was automatically dismissed due to his drug problem. Whilst the older sister Adrienne seemed the most obvious choice, the father chose Emma. Surprisingly, she refused, choosing to make her own way through life.

Emma ultimately inherited a good deal of wealth, but most of her large fortune resulted from her professional success. She ascended rapidly to the upper echelon of the business world on the strength of her intelligence, drive, and personal charm, as well as the secret use of her mental powers. Also, at some point, the Dark Beast met Emma, and helped her rise to wealth and power.

Eventually, Emma became majority stockholder of a multi-billion dollar conglomerate principally involved in electronics and transportation - both the building of ships and aircraft, and their use for freight and passenger conveyance. Despite her relative youth, she was named chairwoman of the board and chief executive officer of the rechristened Frost International. She also became headmistress and chairwoman of the board of trustees of the Massachusetts Academy - a college preparatory school for students in grades seven through twelve located in the Berkshire Mountains in Snow Valley, Massachusetts.

Emma's success caught the attention of the Hellfire Club, an elite social organization consisting of the world's wealthiest and most powerful figures. When she learned that the club was hiring dancers, she promptly auditioned and used her telepathic talents to enhance her performance in their eyes. Unlike the other females in the Club, Emma was never uncomfortable with the strict dress code that required female members to wear lingerie at all times. She believed her revealing wardrobe to be one of many weapons in her arsenal, one that gave her an instant advantage over men.

Powers
Emma Frost is a mutant who possesses various telepathic talents. Emma can read minds and project her thoughts into the minds of others, project psionic force bolts which have no physical effects but which can affect a victim's mind so as to cause the victim pain or unconsciousness, and can also induce mental pain merely by touching the brow of her victim. Emma can telepathically "sedate" her victims so that, if already rendered unconscious, they remain so for as long as she continues to "sedate" them. It is unknown how effective her "sedating" ability is on victims who are awake.

Furthermore, as a consequence of continued mutation, Emma can now transform her skin and hair into a diamond-hard form at will. In this form, Emma is nigh indestructible except for one small flaw that, if exploited, can cause her to shatter. Whilst in her diamond form, Emma's telepathic abilities are suppressed.

Abilities
Emma is highly skilled in electronic theory and electronics and has learned how to build devices that can amplify psionic energy and utilize psionic energy for various effects. She devised the mechanism by which her Hellfire Club cohort Mastermind projected his illusions directly into the mind of the Phoenix Force.

Weapons
Emma once designed a gun-like device which she once used to exchange minds for a period of time with Storm of the X-Men.

"Of course I'm a threat. Why? Did you think for a moment that I wasn't?'

"Being an X-Men means a lot to me. But it doesn't always agree with me."

Great review as usual :thumbs2:

I love this little bishoujo piece, managed to get her for next to nothing a few months back and even in the early stages of the line, they looked great.

Hi guys,

thanks for checking out this thread guys; your kind comments are appreciated!
At first I figured the Bishoujo-line to have a similar look and feel as action figures and that's why I originally stayed away from this line.
When I saw Emma however I just knew I had to add her to my collection since I felt she looked spectacular.
If the Bishoujo Rogue statue ever crosses my path I might pull the trigger as well since I think Rogue looks awesome as well.
Because I am not a big manga fan however those are the only two Bishoujo statue which have caught my interest so far.

The good thing about these Bishoujo statues is that they do wonders for the diversity of your collection since they are truly something different when compared to the large, resin statues of for example Bowen Designs, Kotobukiya or Sideshow! :D

I don't collect the Bishoujo line, but looking at this figure and excellent review makes me very tempted to start
