Hi guys,
Looking for reference online I came across this awesome piece of art.
Just curious, what do you guys think of this version of Batman? imagine him in 1/6th :) wouldn't that be so cool?

i think its cool anything bats related is awesome but i really like the new jim lee costume on the new 52 comics along with the jokers new look but like i said anything batman is killer .. for me anyways ....

id actually prefer a standing bats with some attitude not really an action pose but something similar to how the the anime characters get drawn reflecting genuine attitude just standing in place, if that makes sense ;)

There are various customs out there of this exact pose... and for good reason. It's a stellar scene. Any chance you'd consider 1/4 scale?

Personally I think the cape is over the top and should be toned down. Everything else looks great. Not sure I'd have any interest in a sitting BM though.

Hmmm... I wouldn't be so quick to assume what the fanbase won't pay. The SS Batman PF has an edition run of 9500 at $400 a pop and the line-up waiting to jump on cancelled exclusives was shut down a while ago. 1/4 scale Predator and Alien easily retail between $800 and $1200 each. The cash is there, Z. Sideshow proves that over and over.

P.S. Z, the fan base would LOVE to have a genuine competition for Sideshow dollars. Gentle Giant started producing some 1/4 scale pieces of far less relevant and virtually unknown characters like Honey trap at $700 price points and it sold out.

I hear you, however it doesn't really apply to us, as these come un-assembled and unpainted. I don't see people paying $400 plus for a 1/5th scale ( forget 1/4 SS has that covered) unpainted, un-assembled kit.

I love both images you've selected, Erick. The first one you rarely see with the cool and calculating detective sitting by his Bat computer. The rooftop staring-off-in-the-distance Batman is a pretty common choice. However, it's a tried and true pose that lends itself well to ensemble statue arrangements. Come to think of it, the former could work with a sort of "Godfather" feel with Bats being flanked by a standing Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, and so on. I don't think you can go wrong with either choice.

I'll respectfully disagree with MoonMonkey because price IS an issue for most buyers. I feel it will also influence sales of future statues as far as bringing back repeat buyers. I know people loooove the 1/4 scale, but you've shown with your Koto work that 1/6 scale can be just as good - and often times better!

Ever thought of doing one after the cover of the Batman Annual #1 from New 52 where he's standing on the snow covered rooftop? to be fair, he did ask us for our feedback. I can totally see the logic in that it's actually a licensed product, but the fact remains that the market has its share of the Batman on Throne statues. I think what most people are trying to say is that it would be nice with a different portrayal of Batman, even though it'd be the first licensed BoT.

Having said that, I will buy a PTZ Batman whether he's sitting on the throne, or on the toilet. it's gonna be damn good either way.

I'd be interested in this pose in 1:6 scale. To me the seated pose is just more of a novelty than something that captures the spirit of Batman. It would be fine as a second Batman sculpt. Not a fan of 1:5 scale. No space left for 1:4 scale. You need to do a prolific line of 1:6 scale DC heroes and villains Erick. There's a gaping hole there that no company has been able to fill in all these years.

I was initially leaning towards the second one but then realized that the hero looking towards the horizon with one leg up pose has been done ad nauseam. So I'll vote for the seated one. It's not as dynamic but I have no doubt you can put your own stamp on this pose regardless of it being done before.
Are you still considering other poses or have you narrowed it down to these two?

Dude, you're being rude. Not saying you shouldn't share your opinion but this is Erick's company we're talking about. I can't even begin to imagine how hard it must be to run a business like that.
Not to mention the cool licences he's managed to get.

If you're not much of a fan of his work why even post here?

And I don't think he's being cocky when he says he can do better. AY's work was great but if Erick's feeling confident he can do better, then he should go ahead and do what his gut tells him.
Not so long I thought I'd never be able to hold an airbrush. Now people pay me to paint their statues.

The guy struck me as humble and very nice all around from the webinar he hosted (as well as all the posts he's written here). He's always looking to improve his techniques and learn from others, and he's open about that.

I HIGHLY doubt Erick meant any offense about the unlicensed statue, but he clearly sees areas that can be tweaked. And I'd bet the bank that he delivers - if he chooses that particular sculpt.

i for one dont think one professional sculptors work is better than an others. each are equally as good in their own right. after all, if they weren't. then they wouldn't be "professional sculptors" working for the companies in this industry.
it all boils down to opinions of what one individual prefers to see something look like. or in this case what something should be sculpted like.

now with that said. no disrespect Dark spidey. but your pretty much saying the same thing that ziotibia is saying (to a degree, which i will explain at the end) with your comment stating that Eric's will top the other two unlicensed pieces. he is only stating that Eric wont in his opinion. and the same with yours. now with his comment on the comparisons on who is better than the other (which you didn't state anything like that Dark Spidey). ziotibia would be completely wrong. Eric and Avi are equally talented artists and im sure Eric would whole heartily agree. and when Eric stated he would like to improve on the two sculpts im sure he was only stating what he would have like to have seen in those sculpts. i would put money on it that he didn't mean in any way shape or form that they were inferior to what he could do. after all he did say "with all due respect" .

I agree with you no one is above or below anybody and it all boils down to taste. What I meant was that things can be improved specially things like textures, extra elements etc etc.
that was it. No big deal really :)
Have a happy thanksgiving everyone and check out our newsletter tonight :)

Why is it that always it has to be someone who ruins the feeling of a thread?

Let the people enjoy what they like as is speculating and imagining a new statue coming and even having the opportunity to have a say about its pose or concept.

I know some of you have to complain about something but you guys just try and do some yoga or proper respiration before posting or for the better try to think first twice (lol) before posting a pathetic comment.

It really is not fun to try ruining other people's joy...I mean seriously :banghead:

hey erick what about spawn? have you thought about maybe acquiring the license? .. the spawn universe really lends itself to dark demonic monsters and spawn himself is someone that i can see you really bring out the awesomeness in him ... MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Highly doubt McFarlane will issue a license for something he has sole rights for and in which he already is making statues for.
I for one would love to see more spawn kits or statues. But I just don't see McFarlane giving up a license to another company when he could easily make them himself. But that's just my thoughts on the matter.

No one here doubts your talent, I for one feel you do great work. I only own your Goon which
I love, but the Street Fighter kits you did are top notch, especially seeing the paint jobs they are receiving. Some people just have to hate. Not liking your work or thinking you are not the best is fine but keep the insults to a minimum or do not speak at all, JMHO. Hope you had a great Turkey day Erick and that goes for eberyone else as well. Keep the great work coming brother!!

Erick, you should get a poll going that way you'll get a better idea on the split I preferences (unless you've already made your mind up:-)

Personally I'd like to see something a bit different but don't think the chair pose would lend itself to displaying multiple pieces in the same line together. Good luck whichever way you go.
Ps looking forward the LM updates!

i think its cool anything bats related is awesome but i really like the new jim lee costume on the new 52 comics along with the jokers new look but like i said anything batman is killer .. for me anyways ....

id actually prefer a standing bats with some attitude not really an action pose but something similar to how the the anime characters get drawn reflecting genuine attitude just standing in place, if that makes sense ;)

That's the way I feel about Aquaman too. While I like the throne of Atlantis look in theory, I prefer the look of the standing poses. They generally take up less room than the huge throne/chair poses too...

Hey ZKulptor,
Any chance for a heads up if Silvestri's Batcave Batman is going to happen? If it is I need to start putting some funds in the war chest for a painter.

Congrats Erick! The Batman on throne is cool, but the statue + custom paint job + shipping = $$$ BIG BUCKS $$$

Why not something iconic like this:

...but instead of his front arm down...maybe have it up like so:
