eh, that's the kind of advice you give a 6 year old before the reality that most folks will always suck at most things no matter how much they try sets in. I am one of those most folks and even if I spent every day for the next 10 years trying to learn i'd never be any good at drawing/painting, so I agree i'd love for these things to have a painted option

I believe the licenses Prototypez gets doesn't allow them to sell pre-painted statues but if I'm not mistaken they do have a in house painter that you can commission to paint it for you after you buy it.

I think the following factors are a more accurate reason most hesitate or don't stick with the modeling hobby:

Desire/Passion
Patience
Time
Money (initial setup costs)

I think initial skill and talent is irrelavant as most people aren't great or even good at something right away. If you have the first two traits listed above, the rest will come over time.

I didn't know anything about the modeling/kit community and had no desire (at first) to do what was required to get into it. After I realized how much it would cost to have just one kit assembled and painted (on top of the cost of the kit...Sagat) I knew I wouldn't last.

I personally don't have the skill to sculpt or draw and I definitely don't have the desire or patience to learn, but I do love to color and build, so if the sculptor is the creator of the kit, I'm the one that gives it life.

That's where my initial spark turned into a flame and now I love the fact that I build and paint my own kits, plus it saves a ton of money and I can make money on the side by selling what I've painted or paint stuff for other people. I'll never buy another pre-painted statue again. That to me is a waste of money and I have no part in the process, so it's not as fulfilling.

I think this post is pure reality. It's cynical yes but it is the painful truth.

Everyone will eventually assemble a kit. With a little try everybody can. But when it comes down to art, because painting is an art, then most people are helpless no matter how many years and centuries they will try to learn. Art cannot be learned in any school if you don't have the spark inside. School can help you give your talent shape and elevate it but it cannot make you an artist from scratch.

Yes you can surely paint a statue if you try and truly dedicate but if you don't have it inside of you then your painting will be at least mediocre no matter how good you would think it is.

...at least that is my view on the subject

kirthew
12-04-2013, 08:04 PM
In all honesty, my inability to paint and my lack of time to dedicate to learn and my impatience would be my downfall. I would love to have the street fighter statues in my cabinet, but the cost of the model and then having to find someone to paint them is not worth the effort for me. That is fine if it is worth the effort for you, but not for me. Unfortunately, if the case is that they are going to be model kits, I might buy one or two but not every single one. That is why I asked the question.

By the way, telling me to suck it up and learn how to paint is really just a childish response.

well said andrew kits are fun but like you say you have to have patience and the desire/motivation to actually tackle one make sure its as good as can be ..

it also does take a bit of money to get started, i finally have all the supplies i need to start on mine after about a month of saving and buying everything but it definitely does require some cash to gather everything you need .. and some people dont want to spend what it takes if theyre not sure if theyll like painting them or even can but im excited to finally have these kits built and ready soon

Very exciting for this company and us Sosa fans that he now has the DC license, but at the same time I'm thinking that available painters are gonna be at a premium now. With so many pieces that are gonna be produced (DC and SF) I think it would be wise to start learning how to paint. I hear about forum members waiting forever for their kits to be painted..

Maybe someone hear who knows this skill really well can make a basic webinar on painting kits, just like Mr Sosa did for sculpting... Just an idea.

We are making some minor adjustments and hopefully we can start selling ASAP.
