From a current discussion on the merits of the Bowen FS Colossus statues.

Is it possible to paint over chrome?

If you wanted to, could you have the chrome collossus statue painted so that the costume looks like the painted version's.

Hi Tetragrammaton:

Yes, but I'd recommend lightly sanding the surfaces with 600 or 800 grit sandpaper first to give it some "tooth" and then apply a couple coats of primer. By the way, the best source for the finer grades of sandpaper can be found at the larger painting supply stores.

Best Wishes,

Curt

Hey Tetragrammaton,

This question comes up every now and again. Curt is right on the money, paint does not bond well to glossy surfaces. So, after the paint is stripped off the statue, the suit area will need to be scored to prep it to be paint ready.

Danno, how do you strip the paint off the busts? I noticed on the Bowen Thanos you re-did, the lines became much cleaner.

At your local paint store (Shermin Williams, Mautz, Home Depot, etc....) you can find a paint stripper gel. The gel is nice as you can control where you want to apply it. Anyways, simply brush the gel on, wait about 24 hours and rinse, scrub, wipe off. Most of the paint will come off and you will need to work a little extra on those tough bits of paint, either by feather sanding or reapplying the paint stripper and scrubbing those spots.
