Very nice. I can't really tell from the picture but I'm hoping they cut the armor off at the back of the shoulders this time. I hate when they model the entire back armor as well as it makes these busts too deep for normal shelves.

This might be the 1:1 IM bust i'll be owning once they release specs and price

It is a nice looking bust but i agree the film was dreadful and this armor has to be the weakest Stark has made, it fell to pieces with the slightest hit.

Still waiting for a Classic Armor life size bust to go along with Cap and Thor.

Now the question becomes can the factory get anywhere close to that paint job.

You guys like the more fleshed out back and shoulders? I always felt like it made the bust seem a bit heavy, even the MK VII was a tiny bit too much for me. Somewhere between that (more full front) and the original MK III (less back) with full arc reactor is my prefrence.

Just trying to get a feel when pushing forward on future designs.

PureInvasion
01-28-2014, 08:28 PM
I find the shoulders to be great...doing the full back is pointless though IMO. Who displays the backs of these things? Cut the back out and save the customer a few hundred dollars

Anyways at $1000 this went from a definite buy to a wait and see what the factory does.

I personally prefer the full back and front with shoulders. It seems complete. Some of my busts I display in the centre of my rooms where you can get a full 360 view of them. A bust like this would be perfect for a display like mine. Not to mention it looks like you get more value for your money. You almost have half an Ironman suit here for $1000. That's a pretty good deal.

It's gonna be hard displaying Iron patriot with this since it will look so small next to this bust and less complete. To bad you guys couldn't make some last minute changes and add the shoulders to that bust.

But to answer your question, yes, future suits and/or busts in general should all be made like this.

Chris speaks for all the people all the time right, he is the man of all the people...

i think IP's shoulder rifle will add a good balance in weight to the duo. If he didnt have that, then yah.

And I rarely see busts displayed as center pieces, usually they are all back against a wall, or on a podium in a corner.

I did say "personally" ;)

I have 3 display rooms in my house. In the centre of those rooms I have busts on top of podiums which sit back to back. This way people can walk around them. Other busts I have sit up against a wall. I guess the majority usually display busts back against a wall. But with a design like this new mark 42 bust, why would anyone want to?

tough call, but I guess a lot of the older movie busts like Predator 1, Berserker, Aliens, T-600 all have the shoulders, partial chest and back, so I kind of like it better that way. It's kind of like saying, well, said statue will never be displayed from the back, so let's just remove that part of the statue. The T-800 should have defn gotten this treatment instead of just bringing back the head.

The detailed back and shoulders look particularly good on the Mark 42, which has quite a bit of detail in those areas, compared with the more "plain" Mark III or Mark VII.

But in general, I don't think it's necessary. I don't miss the shoulders on my Mark III, that's certain. The bust has incredible presence, and nice clean lines without the shoulders.

I think the inclusion of the shoulder packs on the Mark VII are a nice touch, and help separate it from the Mark III, so I'm all for that. Don't really need shoulders there.

More important than adding shoulders or back detail, I would say, is more vibrant, screen accurate paint and strong QC (meaning, no flaking!). The Mark III looks dull next to those preview pics of the Mark 42, and there's really no reason why that should be.

Atheris
01-28-2014, 10:45 PM
Agree, paint app is the only thing that has ruined these pieces. The busts themselves are incredible. But if you can't make them look anything close to the protos or screen worn suit don't bother since it will only hurt the integrity of the line.

Atheris
01-29-2014, 02:05 AM
They should consider using 3M wrapping for all Ironman busts. They would look EXACTLY like the protos. The textures on the mark 42 are easily reproduced with 3M, even the brushed aluminum look. Think how consistent all these busts would come out without the hassle of using real paint.

I know a guy that could wrap this bust to match the proto for $200.

Chris

I doubt it. Sideshow has used this tactic with some of the other Iron Man busts (Mark VII). Sideshow used some pretty underhanded tactics on the Mark VII. At one point it showed "Less than 20 remaining"... then showed as sold out. I've wanted an Iron Man bust for awhile, but didn't want an open ES version... so I bit when I saw that message. Two days later it was back up for sale with no number limit "remaining." The Hulk Maquette also listed a TBD ES when it was released for pre-order. Basically, if they don't offer an Exclusive version there is no guarantee of them committing to any specific ES.

I've been wanting for the right IM bust for a very long time. Each edition to date has not quite done it for me. I thought the Mark VII was about the best so far, and had that one on order. The Mark 42 basically ruined the Mark VII for me. I really like the addition of the shoulders and the finish, as pictured, looks far superior. Thankfully I was able to transfer my order to the Mark 42. Hopefully the final product meets expectations.

(more pics up on the other board)

it looks pretty good. Can't say I'm happy with the fact that once again they can't seem to use the same metallic'esque paints as the prototype offered. Aside from that...it looks good.

The arc reactor when unlit looks bad (as usual since they can't be bothered to actually model it out properly)

The other board is ripping it up though and stating that it looks 'lumpy'. I don't even know what 'lumpy' means in respect to this piece, but I'll just chalk it up to usual anti-SS nonsense and move on :drama:

If this is around long enough and hits a decent sale price, I'll likely snag one...of course by that time, they'll likely have the Avengers AoU Iron Man bust up for pre-order
