The first DVD in this series came out today. I picked it up but haven't watched it yet. Anyone see this yet? Opinions?

Not a big fan of this. There's too much anime out there, and to me it doesn't stick out much from the crowd. You might enjoy it though.

Sam do you recall we were talking about Applessed a while back. I didn't realise there was a CGI version. The one i have is Manga. Is the newer version much better?

Oh yeah bro, it is SWEET. DTS sound, sharp animation, the story is EH, but sound and sight wise, it is DOPE.
Miami, word yo. Dig anime. Ghost in the Shell (movies and Stand Alone Complex), Akira, Fist of the North star (one of my favorites) the new Appleseed, Grappler Baki, I'm definately a fan of a few series.
I will say it was the seven samurai thing that drew me towards Samurai 7...

I gotta say I preferred the manga version. Wasn't a fan of the CG. Toon shading is too easy to do, and the animation was ok, speaking as an animator. I prefer hand drawn animation when it comes to manga.

I rather liked the CG...looked very realistic...and that opening scene was killer! I'm so tempted to get Samurai 7 just based on the cover alone...but i'm waiting to read a few more reviews.

i've seen just about the entire series(long live bittorrent) the production quality is great, the story is pretty cool and the character designs are awesome. as far as the connection between this and kurosawa's Seven Samurai, the basic plot and a few character elements. by no means is this on par with Kurosawa, but it's not a disgrace either.

I saw a trailer where some dude sliced a space craft in half with his sword or something.
Killer.

Here's a review from a site I've trusted for years to give me good advice.

I read all of it except the "Content" section as it may contain spoilers & then skip down to the "In Summary" section.
Sounds like I may have to pick this one up.

Yeah, and other than having the most ANNOYING anime child in it ever, it is pretty good. But on my disc the fourth episode was messed up, so I have to send it back to get a new disc. But the first three episodes are cool (except for that damn lil anime kid), definately a slow buildup though...
