They seem to be up front with their Edition Sizes too. No TBD stuff. Unless I missed it.

XM has already stated they don't do repaints.... Although I wouldn't mind if they did say a white variant at the same time as the regular one but limit to say 50 ES. So technically it wouldn't be a repaint if it had the same release date as the original :)

Just about all of XM sculpts are based off ArtGerm's work. He seems to be doing original drawings for XM from what I can tell.

Slight alterations (like the face changing) are done from there.

I'm curious to see how well they execute the phoenix force. My main gripe w/ BD's rendition of Dark Phoenix is how trivial they make the phoenix force appear. Almost as if it's just part of the base rather than a key aspect of the character.

IMO, Wiz Kids has the captured the very essence of Dark Phoenix

The Hulk, Captain America, Black Widow were based on designs by Stanley Lau(artgerm).

So is the upcoming Ms Marvel(Carol Denvers).

As well as this Phoenix statue.

However, I must say, personally I found the face sculpt of the Black Widow statue did not capture the style of Artgerm that well as did the Captain America statue.Face wise.

By having the Phoenix force encompassing Jean you one can better grasp the difference between Dark Phoenix & say Marvel Girl.

If I didnt have small childeren and pets, I would have definitely picked this up.

I still don't see the problem for Jean. I rather like her a lot, although I much prefer the reg over the ex. I don't mind as I got her for like 290. She'll look great as soon as I can find a Psylocke and Rogue.

Overall though, this black widow is amazing. I had saved for the Sideshow comic version (love the mix media), but guess I may use that for a deposit for XM.

For sure, so many display options! I love the little stand so that you can display the extra torso and head you aren't using. I have her on PO at the moment. I'm loving the look of this Phoenix too so I can't wait for some more WIP pics. Also, the prices on the XM site are in Singapore dollars in case you didn't already know.

I doubt this will affect ssc one bit unless the price of the XM statues goes down. Paying an extra $300 for 1 statue adds up very quickly. Not many people can afford it as the hobby isn't cheap anyways.

i agree Xm could not affect SS , they affecting themselves with the very poor QC delivered lately,
Xm is just other option for whoever wants to take it, but those whom can take it probably are collectors that buy from SS that once they try a different option and if they find what they are looking for in a collectible, prototype Quality and a decent ES , what you think they will do?

I have always been amazed at the amount of statues people order no matter what company is producing them because of the price points. I see people ordering statues because they love the sculpt and such, but have no attachment to the character. While I understand, and appreciate that they appreciate the work that went into the statue production -- I just don't get it. More power to anybody who is fortunate enough to have that ability, I'm a little jealous of it :) You guys have some incredible collections.

My budget requires me to be very selective, but I'm also lucky that I only collect female statues of characters I LOVE. *cough Storm, Phoenix/Jean, Black Cat*

So me paying $300 extra for one amazing piece, while OUCH to the purse, isn't as bad for me. Especially since SS and GG haven't really made my characters in 1/4 scale that I've needed or wanted. And from what I've seen -- the paint, sculpt and care in packaging from XM is stupendous.

That $300 is worth it to me if I don't have to fight and be jerked by customer service like I was when I got Poison Ivy from SS (which I returned promptly after that crap). And because of that shoddy customer service I didn't order Harley or Catwoman. Might not hurt SS as they sold out, but it saved me $$$ and now I'm extra excited to see what XM has in store for their Marvel line!

You might want to get BW first since she is the fourth to be released. XM already has low stocks left on BW and she isn't due to come out until December in all likelihood (maybe sooner if we are lucky).

Phoenix doesn't come out until next year sometime and BW will be long gone by then.

So me paying $300 extra for one amazing piece, while OUCH to the purse, isn't as bad for me. Especially since SS and GG haven't really made my characters in 1/4 scale that I've needed or wanted. And from what I've seen -- the paint, sculpt and care in packaging from XM is stupendous.

That $300 is worth it to me if I don't have to fight and be jerked by customer service like I was when I got Poison Ivy from SS (which I returned promptly after that crap). And because of that shoddy customer service I didn't order Harley or Catwoman. Might not hurt SS as they sold out, but it saved me $$$ and now I'm extra excited to see what XM has in store for their Marvel line!

You might want to get BW first since she is the fourth to be released. XM already has low stocks left on BW and she isn't due to come out until December in all likelihood (maybe sooner if we are lucky).

Phoenix doesn't come out until next year sometime and BW will be long gone by then.

I have always been amazed at the amount of statues people order no matter what company is producing them because of the price points. I see people ordering statues because they love the sculpt and such, but have no attachment to the character. While I understand, and appreciate that they appreciate the work that went into the statue production -- I just don't get it. More power to anybody who is fortunate enough to have that ability, I'm a little jealous of it :) You guys have some incredible collections.

My budget requires me to be very selective, but I'm also lucky that I only collect female statues of characters I LOVE. *cough Storm, Phoenix/Jean, Black Cat*

Great post. I too am often baffled at folks who 'allegedly' toss hundreds to thousands of dollars at sculpts for characters they have know knowledge or connection to, as can be seen by their posts.

This is looking spectacular. I hope they reveal plans for Dark Phoenix soon. A mirror pose with an expression tweak would actually work for me as opposed to a complete resculpt. While scalewise these will fit in with SS's 1:4 PFs, it's looking more and more like the XM Studios X-Men line will make its own unique statement with more dramatic and dynamic poses and creative themed bases --more akin to Koto's Danger Room pieces vs. Bowen's museum statues. If this line unfolds along those lines I can see a lot of folks trading up.

XM's Captain America looked just like the prototype, I have no doubt that all their other statues will match the prototypes also... XM is paying big bucks to the factories to make sure they get it right. Then XM inspects each one before it ships out...

Looking at the hit and miss Campbell Spider-Man pictures I'm about to give up on SS all together... They're so busy trying to put out a gazillion statues they're QC is taking a beating....

It is a lot of money and I agree with you for the most part but most SS pieces are in the 400-450 range so its really only the cost of another 1/4 of a PF for asured quality. I cant afford them either but i dont think the price is that ridiculous considering the cost from other companies.

I have come to accept that most X-Men related statues are either with Sentinel pieces as base or X-Logo as base.

I wish they'd do something different like Kotobukiya's Fine Art Wolverine with tree log base and maple leaf.

But back to this statue again, just found out that Erick Sosa sculpted the face. Adam W Ross worked on the 3D sculpture.

This is going to be the most beautiful Jean Grey -Phoenix statue.

XM Studios being new in the market is pulling all stops to build a strong market presence and customer base with superior products. They are the new kid on the block facing stiff competition in this collectibles category and they have to make sure they are off to a good start and hence I have no doubt all their products are going to be awesome, make heads turn and garner lots of buzz on the internet.

I think it is too unless we're talking oversized pieces. I'm hopping on the XM train to build an Avengers team. It's to late for me to start with sideshow. Hell, I can get XM Cap, Thor, Iron Man and Hawkeye for the price it'd cost to get classic SS Thor and Cap alone if we're talking exclusives.

Plus, I want to display them in a group setting, which means out in the open. I have pets, and while they won't be allowed in the display room, pet dandruff travels, and that doesn't mix well with mixed media statues.

At least that is all what I tell myself to justify the extra costs lol.

IMO, Their paint app matches GG best (I can only base that on the Capt. America statue I received from them).. Although I will agree that for some it's not practicable to get all the XM pieces due to the price but I would be willing to skip two SS PF's in order to get XM Phoenix or Magneto...

Actually I'm in the process of selling several PF's right now just to fund some of these future XM statues... But to be fair I'm a purist when it comes to statues, never been a big fan of mix media, even though a few of them look pretty good, but overall I just don't like Mix media. So my opinion is a bit bias.

And space. Not to turn this into a scale argument but I really limit my 1/4 scale purchases as I just don't have the space to display 1/4 scale and rotating statues is just an inconvenience to me (and I never get around to doing it) and the more you move them around the bigger the chance for damage. That's why I mostly stick to 1/6 scale as I can display a lot more and don't have to deal much with rotating stock. Place em and leave em.

It has all the check marks of a great statue:

overall amazing design

Officially done with SS after waiting for years and getting a phoned in Jean Grey.

The sculpt implies she just helped, if not single handedly, take down a sentinel. I can't imagine why she would have a calm face in battle --especially since she used her TK to form the Phoenix behind her.

Seeing it zoomed I'm liking it a whole lot more. In the tinier pics there was something off in the furrowing in her brow, but the bigger pic definitely alleviates that for me.

And I'm really starting to think people are forgetting that Jean had this outfit LONG after Dark Phoenix. Which just makes her Jean with her badass vintage outfit. Two entirely different entities.

One on the left is perfect. There's a reason the female statues don't have an angry face. It just doesn't translate well and ages the sculpt. It won't be that big in person and have that exact flawless "paint job".

Yes, I understand the angry expression would befit the situation captured in time that she just took down a sentinel and is hungry for more sentinels to destroy.

But, I also think of the other way. Interpret it differently.
Sometimes, as in anime, the very super powered being needs not have angry expressions. Or be very aggressive to triumph.

Jean Grey with her Phoenix powers is so powerful, she takes down sentinels without breaking a sweat. Like Dr Manhattan. Can easily destroy something with a flick of his finger.

Just my other point of view on the statue. :)

No no no no... you guys still don't get it. All the sculpts of every statue is modeled after me. Erick usually asks me to make some facial expressions and then reproduces my face, yeah, so the Wolvie, Jean, BW, Hulk all look like me. I'm XM's secret weapon! :hilarious:

I can answer most of your questions. This is going to be Green Phoenix, if XM does do a Dark Phoenix (fingers crossed) it will be a completely different sculpt. They do NOT do repaints :buttrock:! As of right now they do not have the rights to sell in NA or Europe so all sales are done through other retailers (BBT, Secret Compass, Simply Toys). The prices for all the others have been around $800 (with shipping included), but there is variance in that depending on where you buy from.

Someone else will have to answer on the release date, but I suspect sometime mid 2015.

Agreements are just that though... agreements. Even if Disney felt issues were present (I'm assuming you're referring to QC) there isn't anything they could do about it until the license was up for renewal.

Thanks for the timely response. I would imagine these retailers you've mentioned would have websites to order from. I am excited to pickup one with hopes that Dark Phoenix would come shortly after.
