The pepper portrait is nice as you guys know I love any female pieces and I'm also am ass woman :). But the quality on Tony is just insane and they even made his skin look kind of sheer shine too it giving it a oily sweaty look and the eyes are magnificent! One good thing though with xm is we don't probably have to worry about googlie eyes as xm looks like they make sure every aspect is right on and perfect as prototype!

To be fair the XM Iron Man is under those yellow fluorescent lights that make the statue colors not look so good...

I like them both, but I'm always worried SS is going to botch the paint app. on the production versions..

See I am the exact opposite on the pose. I will always take a dynamic pose over a more standard museum one. Now the paints I agree with you 100% Viper...who knows what to expect from SS when it arrives.

Here is my positives and negatives for each.

Sideshow

Positives:
1) Legacy is doing it so it should be exact replica
2) Much more dynamic pose
3) Costs much less
4) Better base
5) Fits in line with the other IM armors SS is doing

Negatives:
1) The facial likeness is pretty lackluster with the faceplate off.
2) Can you trust the finished paint job and QC on it?
3) Light up is gimmicky and will break down at some point thus devaluing the statue
4) This will probably be eggshell thin.
5) Extremely high ES makes this easy to get and less collectible (from a rarity standpoint).

XM Studios

Positives:
1) Lots of interchangeable parts (Pepper and Stark heads, switch out arms)
2) Just about guaranteed a great finished paint job.
3) Solid accuracy to the reference material (elbow color is being addressed according to XM)
4) Solidly built statue (no eggshell thinness here)
5) Facial likeness of Stark is excellently done...as well as Pepper's likeness.
6) Extremely low 500 ES (makes it highly collectible).

Negatives:
1) Pretty stiff and straightforward pose....kind of bland.
2) High cost for one of the least favorite IM armors (although the armor is growing on me)
3) Lackluster simple round base
4) No cohesion with the movie IM MK 7 armor being done. Two totally different bases and mix match poses).

With that being said...I just want to note I think both IMs look pretty awesome in their own rights. I for one prefer dynamic poses, and cohesion with groups. I think if XM went the route of both the IM MK 42 and IM MK 7 being in similar poses on similar bases and maybe making a hall of IM armors....I would be all in for it. The XM MK42 is a really well done statue...and I have been debating on getting it just because I know the finished product will be exquisite and look nice as well as maybe being a completest on the XM Marvel line of stuff they do. But I will feel upset if the SS legacy IM comes out poorly and I miss this IM.

The IM MK 42 got lots of good buzz from people that have seen it in person at the shows and the fact it is sold out with a low ES may make this worth it.

Great post Stoney and I can't argue with anything you stated. I will just say that I have been burned too many times on the QC on Sideshow's IM pieces so I have no confidence they can deliver an acceptable product. Having Legacy involved means nothing if the production quality isn!t acceptable.

This statue is perfect I think. I love the pose, the likeness is solid (definitely not perfect), and the paint looks great. Can't wait to get it.

I also ordered this already. I have see it in person. Nice statue!!! At the beginning, I dont like its pose but now I feel the pose is great! Just like the pose in the movie. This suit is definitely growing on me after seeing these latest pics. It's a great looking 1/4 scale replica of RDJ in the MK XLII suit and loaded with detail. I like it better then Sideshow's version and it will display better then theirs will. Might have to lock in a order before it sells out everywhere.

After visit STGCC 2014 last weekend and saw this pieces in person. I wanna share my opinion about Iron Man 42 here. Some people think this iron man is not good, I am same with you too when I first see the XM photo. (XM may need to put some little effort on the XM website photo...:D....Because seem the photo that we collector took is better :p

Initially, I think the pose is boring and stiff. But now I change my mind!! The pose is GREAT!! It just 100% present the pose in the movie!! The color is nice too!!! The tony portrait is amazing!! Here are some photo and video that may change your view about it!! Enjoy!!!

(See the last photo, see the uncle and young guys face. What their face tell? One word - UNBELIEVABLE) - this statue is just look REAL!!

I was just like a lot of people.....I was so jaded by how much they messed up the IM 3 movie that it just left a bad taste in my mouth. So every time I see this armor...well....it pisses me off.

But moving along....this bad boy is smoking hot! The portrait is BY FAR the best and closest to RDJ in 1/4 on a statue. I challenge anyone to that claim.

The Pepper Potts head is phenomenal as well! I got to acquire this guy...no doubt!

I hate the suit and the movie was barely decent, but hell the paint job is amazing and the portrait is awesome imho. Better than every other RDJ portrait I've seen, even better than Hot Toys.

I'm contemplating getting one and I have the crazy idea I could have it repainted, the thing I don't like in the suit is the color scheme, that washed off gray or whatever the color is, just doesn't seem right for an hi tech suit. Should I repaint the armor, I'd also try to add battle damage on it and on Tony's face. Some bruises, a few cuts, nothing major.
Just think about it, left arm with face plate in hand, right arm stretched with repulsors ready, and a battle damaged repainted suit.
Only thing that doesn't wow me is the very simple base, but I can live with that.

If you're into customizing....I don't see why not. However, once you see it in person....you might change your mind.

I can definitely seeing RDJ's face having a cut or two on it. Pepper's I would leave alone. I'm not one for battle damage on my IM statues...just like how I am for my Transformers. However, I do appreciate work done on them by customizers.

Some did some amazing battle damage on the NECA 1/4 IM armor.

The Pepper head, I'll just pretend it's not even there, zero interest for it and her character honestly :D but you know, by now this is just a thought, if I had clearly in mind another color pattern to go with, I would have probably locked the statue already.

Got my order in on this...I noticed XM said they wouldn't raise an ES but will lower one for a non selling statue so those who purchased it will retain their value....I think that's a most excellent idea...hoping they drop the es on this tremendously since it seems not to be so popular

I am watching all the movies starting from Avengers in conjunction in Agents of Shield now in preparation for Season 2 this coming Tuesday.

I absolutely loved Agents of Shield personally and it got me wanting to finally watch the movies I bought but haven't watched yet.

So I just watched Avengers, Iron Man 3 and Agents of Shield 1-5 so far....and starting in a few I will watch AoS 6 & 7 and Thor the Dark World today.

So I will surely watch what you posted. In reference to IM 3, this statue looks pretty phenomenal. I am buying this guy and will enjoy it immensely.

Did any of you notice they fixed the elbow color? It used to be red...now it's gold. XM seems to pay attention to the utmost detail.

Wah! I am getting more excited now! One of the exciting thing that getting XM statue is we may get something better than the proto!! I saw the old proto recently and now the production piece photo is much better than the proto that I saw. Ok..patiently waiting on this one. The guys at xm said that the first batches should be out this month. Only 500 of these. I was hoping to get this one for Christmas but that is a pipe dream now. I think black widow is due out directly after this one followed by mags. :banghead:

I hear ya. I thought it was a swap out arm when I first saw it laying next to the torso, but then the realization set in. I wonder why XM opted to make it part of the torso and not have it attach via magnet like they did the 2 right arms? May have avoided this issue altogether. :dork:

I am guessing the hard foam under the arm is too high or just right, but the cover is not snuggle enough so he can move a little bit in the box. If I were XM I will trim down the hard foam under the arm, use soft foam there and have a thin foam between his body and top cover to prevent it from moving.

It's dumb for them to even put fragile on the box!! Your better off not writing that! It's like putting big bullseye on your back!!

Many fed ex and ups kick and throw boxes labled fragile especially if their not having good day!! I was actually told this from delivery driver that one of his employees said that to him and said if they (customers) day item is broke I just tell them they should of packed betrer!! Can you believe people actually do this?? Well they do, so If you sell item and are shipping it out don't write fragile on it unless you want ups driver to play soccer with it or like Ace Ventura Pet Detective....

Love this piece, the paint is gorgeous on mine as well. Some people dislike this armor but imo the 42 looks great and breaks up the monotony of red IM armors in any collection.

The Stark portrait is stunning, great job XM! :D

Got mine in today and love him. Was on the fence for the longest time since it wasnt my preferred armor and the pose was a tad plain. What pushed me to get it was the fact that I have Cap and Hulk plus I cant see XM ever releasing another 500 edition sized statue. In hand he is amazing! Looking past the style of armor there is no denying that this thing oozes quality from the sculpt to the paint.

I've heard people say the colors are inaccurate...hell I thought the same thing. Basically, it isn't. The red on the actual suit is very dark, but rather flat. I like it, but the way XM painted the red gives it so much depth...different angles and lighting give you different reds on different parts of the armor. The gold is very metallic and solid looking. I like that XM went the hot toys route and painted the very metallic gold accenty parts more of a white gold instead...its subtle and looks sharp I think.

Anyway it's an incredible piece. He looks huge, like an actual 1/4 man inside a 1/4 scale Iron Man suit of armor. He really stands out, and the pose XM went with looks great with either right arm. I was thinking originally of buying this piece as a holdover while the Mark VII comes out, but I'm really really liking this statue.

Bravo XM. Worthy of their reputation.

Well maybe not a lot of fanfare due to the armor....however, every single person I know who owns this thinks its probably the best executed and painted Iron Man in 1/4 scale.

This is a phenomenal statue of IM.

No light up and I don't think legacy was involved. Its the best IM statue you can buy outside of the Mark VI and War Machine maquettes though.

The Mark XLII finally arrived from my connection in Singapore -- Top notch guy to deal with.

My first impressions:

- Unboxing is a real pleasure and experience. The quality of packing material, and packing of statue is incredible.

- Immaculate pain application. Golds are stunning. Red is shiny and vibrant (a bit too much compared to the movie, but still outstanding). Blacks are deep and accurate, with little-to-no paint bleeds. In sunlight it’s even more stunning.

- Craftsmanship is brilliant. Heavy, solid, and high quality cold-cast porcelain is a real treat to hold.

- Magnets are true, and strong.

- Base is sturdy, and really highlights the museum pose as it should.

One minor flaw I've discovered is that the left arm does not sit flush with the body (small gap can be seen in the second photo). Working on rectifying this. Otherwise, a great pick up!

Ha! This was my exact problem too. I searched it everyday in hopes that I could convince myself that I didn't need it... As you can see, I clearly did need it, and alas I am very happy I did!

I am so frustrated waiting for this piece... I paid in full over three months ago and still no word. It's not like they made thousands of this guy. Getting the arm issue fixed should have been a top priority considering he launched in January now, almost 6 months ago!!! If I don't hear something by the end of June im getting my money back an ill get the OG or Mark VII version. I love XM but this is straight sloppy and unacceptable.

The more I look at this statue the more I think it's really underrated, this statue with it's flawless paint application looks more metal then Hot Toys die cast figure.... It just blows away any other paint application I've seen for other Iron Man statues from other companies... I'm really happy to have this and to think only 500 world wide :)

Out of my collection I think this ranks 2nd only to my XM Magneto statue... I'm just so impressed by the quality of it...

I think it has been like that for months. It would be great if the guys at XM could give us any information as to how many are left to be made/painted. We've heard the paint app is particularly difficult with this one....:tumblew:......:sos: So are they going to finish the run or...?

I think they said awhile back that due to the complexity of the paint job they are only able to produce about 30-50 per batch where as the other statues they are able to do 200 per batch..

I know the one I got was flawless, perfect paint job.

Yeah, I am aware it doesn’t have light-up features. Don’t use that feature most of the time. I don’t have any Ironman statues yet and only want one in my collection. This is half price compared to the Sideshow Mark 3, and from what I can see the Mark42 has superb paint application.

it's a great price, but I personally don't like the all-gold suit. The MK 42 may be the least desirable of all the 1/4 scale IM statues on the market. Unless you absolutely love the MK 42 I would save the $350(plus tax) and put it towards something that you truly love.
