Guys, did you check this one out. I am a bowen but I do check out the other guys from time to time and WOW. Very impressed I was at this bust. From the Figure and the croc base that makes the whole presentaion that, "Check me out because I'm Different". Just MOP but did anyone else see this one? Am I nuts or what?
Pics? I had considered snagging this, but hesitated..is it failry large?

Nice, but I'm going to have to agree...the name plate takes it from a 8-9 to a 6-7. It just looks cheesy.

Just don't like the piece. The Croc & the Name just kill it.
Even the bowen mini just doesn't do much for me next to the Full size he is putting out. Now that captures him perfect. Can't wait to get that one.

I ordered one on pre-sale a couple of months back along with the Werewolf by Night. Will have to give them a good look if I decide to keep them, but I think it was good enough to give a chance to. Certainly al least as good as some of the lesser Bowen MBs (lesser for Bowen that is, for example Doc Samson ).

I just it at my LCS. like the sculpt and the croc. the murky water as a base really did it for me. very original. nameplate does suck and it being shiny just doesn't fit the character. it's a nice MB, so I bought it. I have a very few DST MBs

Got this one today and I'm very pleased. The detail is amazing! I'm a Bowen fan too, but the detail on these DST pieces is remarkable to me. I'll have to get used to the shine...but hey, he just came out of the water right?

DS is coming out with some good stuff. I dont think bowen is as good. I have a BD green goblin bust and a RG Green goblin bust. I got them both before I knew the company's names and that sort of thing, and the DS just looks better, and more interesting. I dont get why more people dont like diamond select.

While beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, I can't figure out how some people can view this as crap, where others have to buy it. The sculpt looks good, the paint could probably have been better (but is no worse than some of the Bowen MBs), and the name plate should never have been added. This is a crap piece? Can people who feel that way please back up their opinions with something a little more detailed because right now it seems like little more than "Bowenblindness" to me.

BEST POST IN THIS WHOLE TOPIC. I totally agree. explain why you feel something is crap instead of just stating it. if you have no constructive critism, having nameplate, paint etc but just call it crap. well ya better be able to sculpt or paint it better yourself and prove it to us!
if you can do neither then your opinion will be exactly what you say CRAP!

Wow, so it seems that a lot of you guys don't like the logo/nameplate. Is there any specific reason that they seem to be so disliked, or is it just this particular one?
Also, very wise words from CKinSD and Tetragrammaton. Constructive criticism can really help.

IMO a nameplate just takes away from the MB itself. Chances are if a non comicbook person is looking at it. They will just ask who or what is that/this. Like I said earlier, This just caught my eye and I m not a man-thing guy. I agree with the snap decisions say why you don't like.

I actually like the sculpt, but that name plate is awful. Not so much the nameplate itself, but the colors - It just screams out look at me, not the figure!
I recently picked up the DST Mephisto bust - Awesome piece!

Big D 22 2000, yes I am.
And thanks for the words.
Just a quick statement about criticisms: Those who don't like a piece, let it be known! Everyone has their own taste, and just because you don't like something doesn't mean it might not appeal to someone else. But you could be specific, just saying something is crap does no good. If you point out what in particular you don't like, you never know, maybe your voice will be heard, and it may make for better product in the future!

I agree. Sometimes a sculpt can really be hurt by the paint job. The prototype wasn't so glossy. I convinced myself it wasn't so bad since he is coming out of the water!
Also, on the prototype, the water was much more translucent, the crocodile and Man-Things legs were visible through the "murky water", not so much on the final product.

I do agree with the water effects should be glossy, but the one I had seen in sd looked like it had about a 1/8 inch thick coat of high gloss laquer on it, but to be honest I have not seen one since and maybe the one I looked at was a fluke?

I always thought the Moore Frazetta Barbarian statue was hurt by the paint job...

For what reason? Why do you dislike them specifically? Just dissapproving of things without a reason doesn't help the product get better! Constructive criticism is a good thing.

..because it's a distraction and it's presence simply degrades the overall statue.
Imagine if every Bowen/HH/LOTR statue had a nameplate embedded within the base... wouldn't that piss you off?

I don't see it as a distraction any more than a movie title on a movie poster, or the character name at the top of the comic book cover. I can still very much appreciate these forms of art.
I don't think it would be a good thing if every statue had a nameplate, but you just listed a number of lines that don't, so we're safe there. Variety is a good thing, what appeals to one might not to another.
I don't mind nameplates on some figures at all, especially comic based sculpts. It's very similar to action figures that have a character logo as a base. I like it just fine.
Would you have bought the piece if the nameplate wasn't there?
