Just wanted to go on the record and say that Cain is going to be shipping very soon, our Euro dealers will get them first. Our products our held up in LA due to the dock workers strike.

We have lowered the edition number on Cain to 500 units total. We had to injection mold 500 parts sets and we are happy with 500 pieces total.

Soon we will be closing orders on Cain, so don't delay.

There is a rumor going around that we are planning another edition of Cain, that is not true, once the 1/6th Cain is sold out, it's gone for good. No other editions will ever be made so buy with confidence.

We ran Cain in small batches and we will be placing a temporarily out of stock on the website soon. Once that goes up you will still be able to order a Cain, but we will notify you when you can pay and when to expect your product.

Excited to get Cain shipped..........

Is the 1:4 cain bust still happening?
Any chances for 1:4 scale cain, ed209 or robo?

We'd love to make a 1/4 Cain bust, but I don't think there would be enough interest to justify the cost.

Hey guys,

I'm one of you, always remember that, Cain was a passion project that everyone told me would be a huge failure. Cain is hands down our best selling product.

We are producing the 1-1 head and again, I'd love to make the 1/4 Cain bust. It may be possible to make it as a kit at some point, believe me, I want one for myself. ;)

We've been in business for a year, but we have only had a sales presence for around six months. You are looking at it man, three products and about fifteen in the pipe and more dropping this month.

15 is going to be a fun year......for you guys. ;)

Just a heads up guys, Cain will be going "Temporarily out of Stock" any day now. The first wave shipped by Toynami is sold out. Never fear the second wave will not be that far behind. If you have ordered a Cain before the 16th cut off, it will ship near the end of the month and soon as the dock workers and customs can clear out the back log from the strike.

The second wave will be 60 days behind this order.

Wow, just beautiful. Impeccable craftsmanship and such a high caliber finish all around. This piece is so impressive, it is clear Chronicle's goal is museum quality pieces as you have entered with a bang! I've wanted a Cain piece my whole life, thank you for having so much faith in Cain to carry this project through and do it justice. No only did we get a definitive Cain collectible, we got a studio puppet replica finished to exacting details :D All I can say is wow, after all these years, it was worth the wait - someone finally did the impossible in recreating Cain. There are some great products here and on the horizon, but if I could only choose 1 piece, this would be it.

The last pic is a personal favourite of mine.. just something you didn't get to see a whole lot of in the movie (from memory), and very cool to know what he looks like from that angle.. such insane detail all-round.. most impressive mech ever.. was meant to be built so it could not be re-created (and the lieks of SS and HT have attempted and abandoned the project due to being too ambitious - but I guess those ppl didn't have original studio puppets and the creators on-board :D)

Every piece has its own unique challenges(nothing's easy), the key differences will be where the source materials from and who's handling them, then how the production are planned and executed.

The foreseeable success of Cain and 209 are heavily depended on those three factors. The efforts that went into those steps were as tight as they can be, which is all we collectors wanted and it totally shows.

I'm sure there will be a lemon or two but it's just the way it is for mass production in China.

That is one of the lower hoses that is supposed to be tucked into the torso. When you assemble, just make sure those lower hoses are tucked in well. Nothing is broken or out of place, just moved from it's proper place.

THX, I hear you, we are trying our best to replicate the pieces we have to the best of our ability. Not everything appeals to everyone, but I can promise that if it's cast from the 1-1 prop, we'll get 95% of what you saw on screen into the replica.

Most companies are happy with 80%, but with Toynami as our manufacturing partner, we hold them to a higher standard. So far every piece we've made has exceeded our expectations, I don't see that changing anytime soon.

We may have a lemon, but not because of the art direction or manufacturing, it may just not have curb appeal to enough people to justify the run....

Nidgit,

We molded the head from the screen used original. Actually the 1/4 scale head was the only one that opened in the film and was never realized in 1-1.

If you buy a 1-1, you should be able to cut it up and open it anyway you like. Its' just a big helmet casting that's hollow on the inside.

Is wave 2 being finished by the same people that made wave 1?

there were major problems with the first (direct from
Barton)arriving in one piece, but the majority that arrived with the head attached were gorgeous aside from Atheris's who arrived intact but had a strange mask warping issue. The second wave (through Sideshow) had an entirely different paint application.

Any how, I got my sights on this Cain.

Nidgit's pics and Chronicle's commitment to quality and excellence convinced me that I need to have this piece in my collection. Plus I have always liked the design of Cain and never thought a prop would be made that would do the design justice until this piece came out. Thank you Chronicle!

We are making 500 total and the first 300 have shipped to us and international distributors. The second 200 are 100 US and 100 International and they are going fast since pictures have started showing up on the forums. The second wave should ship in July.

Paul, can you please reasure us on the following:
I don't speak italian so I used google translation to translate itakon's review of Cain.
According to google translate itakon says that some stickers on Cain have been painted over.

Was this how it was on the puppet or should the factory have put on first the paint and then the sticker?

Can you reasure us collectors of Cain that there was no production fault?

A question, Paul: when you said this was made of many different materials, you said "resin".
Do you mean actual resin, or is it polystone? What's the different between the two, eventually?
I think I've read that resin is more quality, more expensive, harder and is usually used for prototypes but it's quite prone to scratches and chips (more than polystone, that is).

Such a complicated design. A real masterpiece. No ways a statue company could have created this from scratch without missing important details and all the intricacies (including 'hidden ones') to make it a close representation. Having the original puppet was the only way. All the seperate parts and hoses etc really show, has a real industrial feel just like Cain did.

Thank you again Chronicle.

We hand inspect each one ordered from the website. We inspect and insert the bonus items.

Are you glad we are looking at every piece?

Please if there is damage, don't take a hammer to it, even if you damage it be honest. Just send us the part at your cost, we'll repair the item and send it back.

Since these are so limited let's make every one count!

Don't equate the cost to the size of the piece, Shogun. It's an extremely detailed and highly accurate replica of a screen used puppet with hundreds of small intricate parts that are hand assembled and painted. The cost is justified imo if you take a serious look at what it takes to manufacture this piece.

Last night while hanging out in my collection room scanning the shelves and cases, i realized i have over 120 pieces currently on display. Mainly statues, busts and some figures and a couple of props; ranging from 1/7 scale to 1/1 scale. I realized if i purchased this piece for $1355 it would be the my most expensive piece purchased at retail in my 9 years of collecting. It put things into perspective how expensive this piece really is, relative to other pieces in the hobby, while not discounting it's history, accuracy and intricacy.

I can see your dilemma now, Shogun. I would say that if you can justify the cost of Cain to yourself than it will be money well spent.

This piece is more like a Cinemaquette and almost the same size due to him being 9' tall in the film.

I think from the box to the product itself it's a pretty cool piece. Besides the fact that it's the only accurate version ever made. ;)

We have ten month payment plans, I know that a lot of people, almost 2/3 used the plans to get their Cain so it's worked.

If someone told just a couple months ago that I would have spent this kind of money on a 1:6 statue, I would have taken a good laugh.
But given the backstory of this piece, and once the first in hand pics surfaced, I couldn't resist. Cain is too much of a unique and awesome design, I don't see anybody else tackle the same project in the forseenable future. Ergo, I see this like a unique opportunity.
This really justifies the price tag imho.

Also, Jerry by PCS recently disclosed that a 1:4 ED209 would end up retailing at around 2000$ - this is the nail in the coffin for me. I have absolute trust in Jerry and given this information, I can perfectly see that 1200$ for ED / 1300$ for Cain are on spot, as far as pricing goes. I can spend my money knowing that the manifacturer is not jacking the price or being greedy.

I can assure you Cain was a brand builder and the same goes for ED-209.

ED has not sold as well as Cain and I thought it would be quite the opposite. If I had it to do over again, we probably wouldn't have made Ed-209.

Just to much product in the marketplace and people seem to be content with a toy rather than the real thing.

I'll always be honest with you guys, to grow the brand and the customer base I think it's key.

I recently visited Jerry at PCS and told him to stay far away from ED-209, I hope he listens, we've cut the production on Ed to 500 pieces and I doubt we'll make more than the initial order of 300 units.

That is sad to hear, Paul. You are really rocking the design. No other piece whether collectible or toy comes closer. I guess, the lack of traction with the franchise keeps things a little bit slow for you too, guys.

In my opinion, ED-209 is going to be a sleeper and if people do not jump on it right away, they are going to regret it later in the aftermarket. The time to act is now!

Sadly, this doesn't surprise me at all. This is what happens when licenses get w.h.o.r.e.d out. Hot Toys, NECA.....There are only so many people interested in items from a movie released so long ago. On top of that price becomes an issue as buyers compare products. ED 209 is no doubt the more popular of the two, but it is easier to replicate and the market is being saturated. I love what you guys did Paul and was about to pull the trigger, but held off because of all of the other noise. I won't hesitate on your Stargate products as I don't think there is a large enough following for other companies to produce and saturate. Don't mean to be negative, just want to give you feedback so you guys succeed.

Thanks LEC and thanks DarkKnight, I do appreciate the feedback.

I'm a huge fan of Robocop and I'm a huge fan of Phil Tippett. I think we should have released them a year apart, knowing what we do now we won't make that mistake again.

With Terminator I'm trying to release different products at different price points so we don't burn you guys out.

ED will sell and he's a break even product for us at this point, I don't mind sitting on inventory.

Everyone told me not to do passion projects and that Cain wouldn't sell, I'm happy to have proved those people wrong. My gut was to not make ED-209 at all, but we honestly believed that the true fan of the film would want the real thing and not an idealized copy.

Stargate has performed and we will be releasing Horus next in the line of 1-1 masks. The response to RA wasn't that great so he may not get produced.

Stay tuned we are just fine tuning and trying to figure out this crazy market.

Keep the critiques coming, I like hearing all opinions as long as they are constructive like Darkknight.

Thank you for the support guys, without you there isn't a Chronicle Collectibles....

Fans of Star wars, Star trek, Alien, Terminator and so much more, are ready to buy the same stuff, over and over, looking for the holy grail, the most accurate rendition of their subject of passion, whatever the cost.
Most of the collectibles from the Robocop franchise are plain rubbish, from an accuracy point of view, idealized copy as Paul wrote.
Now that a company offer us a studio accurate replica of ED-209 stop-mo puppet, fans turned their back from it?
It's not like we were overflown with a huge amount of fine collectibles.
As far as I can tell, aside Fred Barton's 1:1 bust, for the very first time we have a serious opportunity to buy the ultimate Robocop line of replicas.
What's wrong with fans?
How can you overlook such perfection for a plastic toy...unless you're an action figure collector, is ahead of me.

The Mule

The harsh truth is that most collectors buy what is good looking, so extreme accuracy is often overlooked.
"Accurate enough" is more than ok for most collectors and I can see their point, if this partial lack of accuracy comes at a fraction of the cost.
A hell lot of people collect what is "cool" and somehow within their interests... like superheroes. There are a lot of people who spend thousands each year for characters they barely know, and this is just because they look "cool" to them.
Of course there are also a lot of collectors who know a hell lot about the characters they buy.

Imho, the key here is to balance the ES and pricing point. Yeah, I know, sounds like discovering hot water... but different products have different balances, and Chronicle is aiming at various different markets, even within the same license.
Just look at Terminator, we are used to busts, 1:4 scale maquettes and 1:3 Cinemaquette... but what about the HK scaled replicas?
And overall, vehicles replicas, they're pretty much sight unseen in the mainstream market.
What about the JP dinosaurs wall mounted heads?
What about the Roger Young spaceship?

These are all untapped spots and it's hard to tell if the paying fanbase is effectively there, ready to answer, or not. There aren't many mass produced precedents, if at all.
Also, it takes a very informed customer to accept some pricing points, to actually know the difference between an accurate replica from original molds, than a "clouse enough" artist's interpretation.
There are two sides in this coin, the good one is that Chronicle is going to be much much more appealing to a loyal and dedicated fanbase (which in the medium-long term is a must imho); the reverse is that they'll hardly appeal the casual customer, except for the most mainstream pieces (like the 1:4 Endo).
I'd say a good balance would be mixing big sellers from widely popular licenses (again, Terminator) and more niche projects (like the 1:1 Cain head), which is something that it seems they're already doing.
All in all, only they know deeply what is more cost effective, and act accordingly.

Duh, sorry for the stream of consciousness. I need to change my nick into MuleJoe :D

No thank you man, a lot of that are my thoughts exactly.

We have the 1/18th Spider Tank coming but it's been slowed. We printed the piece using the existing CGI models. We received a new file about two weeks ago and they completely redesigned the thing below the head after we had grown and mastered the entire piece.

The Rodger Young is coming, it was just to expensive to build finished. The retail would have been close to $1500 and I just don't think we'd sell 200 pieces. So it will be a kit for a third the price.

Same with the 1-1 Cain head, we make these in house to order, so if we sell a few dozen I'm totally okay with that.

But as far as new products, ED-209 has really hurt the chances of us doing anymore Robocop at the moment.

Ive been following this company for a short time and blown away by your work, only prob is Im from India and shipping and customs fees on top of the original price will really hit me hard, not to mention risk of damages, every third Sideshow order of mine arrives damaged, luckily SS had replacements 98% of times, recently Primes Studios Optimus too arrived with damage , every order is stressful till i get in hand and make sure nothings damaged
that said maybe the orders for Ed -209 is slow because theres just too many coming out fast, or maybe u could do production in batches, lots of new collectors join every day , and might want to order it when they find out about it,, not many of us can afford to buy collectibles worth 1200-1500 every 2 months,so a little breathing space is welcome with so many companies makes awesome new collectibles every day

What does this mean for the 1/6 Robocop that was going to be split into Robo 1 and Robo 2 paint apps?

this ^^^^^ surely a relatively low cost item like robocop wouldn't be too much of a gamble to take. It'd be a crime not to have a 1:6 robo to go with ed and cain, especially when you have access to the original puppet!

Dino76, we have a great distributor in the UAE, so you can buy local and not run the risk of damage.

1/6 Robo is not in the cards at the moment, I want to make it, but we are a partnership and it has to make sense on paper.

We also run our products in batches and to be honest we base every product on 300 units, if we sell that amount great, if we sell more that's even better.

Paul, it's too bad ED209 isn't selling better but it isn't because you guys didn't make the most accurate replica possible because you did. There won't be a better ED209 on the market. I agree with the other comments that there is just a bit of Robocop saturation right now and aside from Robocop himself, ED209 is the next most popular character from the franchise and has been done several times over the years.

I think if you would have put a year in between Cain and ED209 releases, ED209 sales would have been much better. Personally, I have always been a bigger fan of Cain than ED209 so I am just thrilled as can be that Cain is now a reality. You have made a dream come true for me by making the Cain replica. Thank you sir. :thumbs2:

I hope you don't decide to abandon the Robocop franchise entirely because of the ED209 sales. I would say wait a year before you announce the the 1/6 Robocop and sales should be much better.

Well I got to say - thank god you started with Cain.

I would love and cherish a Robo from you guys with what you've done with ed and cain using the source material, but I will always be eternally thankful for finally bringing us Cain in collectible form - and the definitive one to boot. Maybe if you started with Robo, Cain may never have happened. Thank you for beliving in the most complicated nuke-loving mecha :D

and shame shame for anyone who beleives the HT will hold a candle to the prop replica Ed. HT are genius at picking up what they see on screen and stills, they do great stuff, but they don't have access to this kind of source material, all you need do is look at the intricacies near his 'feet' for example.. and the materials the use of actual cable rather than paint etc

Sadly, I can understand the decision to hold off on a 1/6 Robocop for the moment.

From a business standpoint, knowing Hot Toys is offering 3 different 1/6 Robocops at the moment, that look fairly decent for around $300.. Not to mention other companies like Enter Bay doing Robocop stuff.

I could see how they might have to really think about it. Would it sell enough to justify offering it. Are there too many other Robocop pieces out there right now..

Believe me, I know the work of art Chronicle would make would blow away any of those toys. Being a replica of a Tippett stop-motion puppet, no other company is offering anything close to something that amazing or unique.
It's not at all the same thing, work of art as opposed to a plastic toy.

But I can see how ED-209's performance can cause them to rightfully, stop and think about it.

It is sad to hear ED hasn't sold as well as Cain. I actually owned a Hot Toys ED-209 up until this past month. I sold it, deciding it's just no substitute for the real thing. I want to eventually get Chronicle's ED into my collection so I will work him into my payment plan scheme at some point.

The thing that surprised me is, how much I ended up needing to get my hands on this Cain replica first. Lol

I was always a fan of ED-209, more so than of Cain. I honestly never though I would choose a model of Cain over ED.. But when I saw the detail, the amount of parts involved in Cain compared to ED, I had to have Cain first and foremost. :drooling:

Maybe that's what happened with most collectors, even though the ED-209 model is just as amazing as Cain. For the price, if I could only justify getting one, as much as I love ED-209.. It had to be Cain first.

That piece is just so stunning. Cain looks so much more complex.

Anyways, I bet once Cain has sold out ED sales will go up.
Hopefully we can eventually get a true, 1/6 scale Tippett Robocop. For now, I can wait.. and understand why.

I can't stop turning him around (just ordered a turntable/lazy susan), moving the lighting and just gawking at him in general. All the real materials used (metal springs, screws, rubber, plastic and braided hoses, etc.) and the way it's put together that allows for some very subtle moving of parts, gives it a level of authenticity that will NEVER be matched by ANYONE - EVER! After seeing the real thing in person (and even allowed to take all those reference pictures) twelve years ago, this is undoubtedly worth every $@#% penny and literally the next best thing to having one of the original puppets sitting in front of you - and it's yours.

Thank you again, Paul and everyone at Chronicle, for making this awesome piece a reality!

Hey guys just want to clear up a shipping issue for some of our international customers.

If you bought into free shipping, we tried to send emails and posted clearly that any balances would need to be paid by the customer.

We discounted the product $100 and we offered $55 in free shipping.

If anyone is unhappy at all we can refund your product and help you place an order with an overseas distributor.

Our profit margin was very tight on this product and we can't justify paying hundreds of dollars in free shipping on each package.

We should have been more clear up front and it's only been an issue for a few people. In most cases with the credit it's still much cheaper to order direct.

Sorry for any confusion, we don't want to lose any customers and will be very clear in the future regarding our shipping policies.

Can I suggest maybe cheaper shipping options next time around? I have to admit that I was a little shocked with what it cost to send. But I'm too excited and will have my Cain very soon. Once you start getting bigger and start shipping more items you can negotiate a better rate with shipping companies. It was my first purchase from you and I will have to way up my options on Ed-209. Local vs direct.

I understand Jaxon, sorry if the rate was high, UPS gave us the best discounted rate at almost half Fed Ex. I could use USPS but they are clown shoes and would lose or destroy the pieces, so I'm not going that route.

We do try to offer bonus items and ED-209 will be no different, we have something cool coming.

USPS would put me off buying as an International customer. One experience with them was quite enough so it's good to hear they are not an option. I like Fed Ex, will they not offer you better rates as you grow as a company? Shipping cost will always be the Elephant in the room. Especially as our thieving customs charge vat on the shipping price also which has always had me scratching my head.

Wow, didn't know USPS got so much hate. Are they so bad?
I've always received PCS statues with USPS and they've always been pretty good... an average of 7 working days, no customs delays or anything, packages showed up in shape.
I'm currently waiting for my Cain to show up, carried by UPS... hope they're worth their shipping cost.

Python

Very bad in my experience. Slow, expensive considering the service I got ($100 for my HCG P2 mask) and they hand it over to Parcel Force once it gets here who then hold your item hostage until all customs payments are cleared etc. This added a good 4-5 days to the delivery time for me as they write to you with the bill.

The Mule
03-20-2015, 10:04 AM
Understood.
Well I was quoted 65$ for my PCS Sub Zero back then (but there was a 25$ discount included, so it should have been 90$). UPS quoted 126$ for Cain but I have no idea how big is the package, I'll be able to make a better comparison as soon as I receive it.
For now I only see it's a 15lbs package, so heavier than the ninjas.

My main concern is the customs, I just want the damn thing to arrive safely, be robbed of my money and receive my statue. No hold ups, no physical inspections (!) and s--t like that.
Sometimes it feels like prohibitionism.

Lucky indeed. I'm griping because I have yet to find the perfect spot for Cain, I absolutely want him sealed in a case and couldn't manage to have someone make a custom one in time.
I only opened the box and did a quick inspection, everything seems in place and even disassembled he looks AMAZING.
Only (very minor) complaint I have is the styrofoam - it breaks very easily, the paranoid inside of me tells me that I should be afraid it could scratch the paint, but I don't think there's any chance for it happening.

I hear you mate. It's just that there's too much dust here, it bugs the hell out of me.
I'm planning to have a custom case with a mirror back panel, plus I want to make it easily accessible so I can open it and rotate Cain as much as I like with a small turning table placed under him.
Don't know how to do it, there should be a way to place pins on the front panel and make it open like a normal door, or use hinges to make it open upwards like a luggage van.

That's awesome, excellent art work also! I hope little extras like that continue into some other products. I'd like a nice Rodger Young print when the time comes ;)

Yeah somehow I'm freaking excited to have the artworks.
I really love them, actually I think all high end statues should come with a small print, planning on framing them and displaying them around Cain's case.
The COA is super nice, too, I know that ECC has been using the same format but never seen it in person, it's really a classy piece of paper and I was thinking about framing it too and display it along the rest.
