Damaged Advice Thread

Hey guys, just received an Aragorn at the Black Gates Sideshow/Weta statue from ebay, and a chunk of his cloak has snapped off. It was sold 'bnib' and I paid £250 for it. There is one large piece broken off but it isn't clean and I've picked up a couple of little shards out of the box. I just wanted some advice as to what I should do, I think my options are A) Full refund though ebay, B) Reach a partial refund agreement with the seller, I was thinking maybe £100 back as the statue now as no resale value and the break is in a very noticeable place.

The statue was ordered for my mother and she doesn't mind the break so long as I can fix it properly and get a partial refund, any advice on the type of glue I should use or any other tips? I've never really fixed a break like this before. Pictures and ebay listing below.

I'd return for refund. Couldn't deal with a damaged statue regardless of how well it might be repaired.

Let it be known, do not buy any statues with stock pics. Any seller with MISB is not telling the whole truth. His discription of the whole auction is so vague which causes red flags.


I would try to get your money back rather then fixing it.

I don't mind damaged statues so much so long as I know I made a significant saving, several of mine are bought on ebay as 'damaged' but this is quite an 'eye-catching' break. The seam disappears along the bottom of the cloak but it looks bad near the top where your eye would first focus.

When you fix it back in place is the break clean or chipped also?

It's very clean about 3/4 up the break from the bottom of the cloak, but the closer you get to the top from there the worse the chipping is.

I second what VS said. Always ask for pictures or for them to inspect the statue before bidding on it if you are interested. If they are legit they will always be willing to do this (I have yet to be told no when asking people). I have no care to be the first to open a box, so I prefer the safety in my purchase of making sure no QC issues or just normal breaks.

This also protects you by having a written record of your discussion saying exactly what condition the statue was in when it shipped, so if there is an argument about refund then ebay will have more evidence for your side.

I've only dealt with clean breaks myself, so I'm not really sure how to handle the chips. Maybe glue the main piece on first and let it cure. Then get the chips in place and glue them together one at a time or something?

Okay, I might give that I try. I messaged the seller asking if he would be alright with an attempted repair and £100 refund, but if it didn't work out I could just send it back. Waiting on a reply.

I third on this, I've had a seller refuse to show me images of a statue direct (image was of the box only) and was instead told 'it's fine, you can see the statue on the box.' Needless to say I didn't bid despite it being my most saught after piece. Just gotta bite the bullet sometimes. Sorry to hear of your terrible experience :(
