is there something specifically this artist was trying to refer to with this concept? I'm not sure I'm digging all the symbiote elements here. I don't think the flowing symbiote goo coming off the back will translate well in 3D form. A Mcfarlane sculpt over a Brock switch out please.

The art rendering didn't wow me, but I did like the sense of motion with the symbiote trailing behind. I was VERY impressed by the 3D portrait tho.

It is the concept art, we all know XM is completely ok with tweaking. I, too, would like them to bulk him up a bit more.

I feel ya, but the thing is.... XM isnt always going to be the best statue of a character ever. SS got where they are by doing some amazing pieces.

This piece looks to be amazing and dynamic, but it would be hard to top one of the best SS pieces ever put out.

Loving the head sculpt! Smooth 90s style Venom is my preferred look but they nailed this head. From what I see I like this better than the SS Comiquette which I was never too fond of...

But Igo said he wants to do Venom. I wouldn't be surprised if their Venom PF is in development now. We know that entire Spidey PF line is supposed to have dynamic poses. SS might give this XM Venom some real competition. Good for us!

I'm nobody official but from looking at what little we can see from the Symbol on his torso it's safe to say they sculpted Eddie.

Mac has a larger white spider symbol and his own eyes are whited out and surrounded by the Symbiote's "eyes":

Peter and Eddie had the same basic symbol but it typically changes from wearer to wearer...Angelo Fortunato, Mac Gargan/Scorpion and Flash all had/have different versions of the symbol. When Mac posed as Spider-Man in the Dark Avengers he gained enough control to emulate the look of Peter Parker in the Symbiote including Peter's smaller size and symbol, but as soon as he cut loose he went right back to his normal large body, larger symbol look.

Well Doc Oc and especially Kraven are definitely not classic so far...that's pretty much all the Kraven thread has been about.

Would be interesting if XM does their own thing with Spidey's costume like they've done with so many other characters. They've taken some of the pretty basic/classic costumes and changed them in interesting ways (Magneto, Daredevil, Thanos, Doc Oc, Iron Man, Dr. Strange, Elektra, Black Bolt, Ms. Marvel) and there's already a number of upcoming "regular" or traditional 1/4 Spideys to compete with XM's, including their own dio. I can see the, at least adding some textures to Spidey's costume (like the movies do).

The base, and the entire theme of the statue, work very well for who the character is. XM designed something that speaks to who Eddie Brock is and how he and the Symbiote work.

The base here actually tells a story unique to this character. What it seems is those that really know the Venom character understand and like this concept while those who don't know much about Venom other than he's strong, cool and a Spidey villain want this to be more generic.

Yeah, he could've been on a regular building base that's less busy, but those that want a more standard villain statue can still pursue the Comiquette or wait and see what SS does for their PF.

If XM do a switch head then they HAVE to at least consider this one. Would be so awesome seeing the detail of brocks face behind the stretched out tongue. Maybe they could even make the tongue removable by magnet.

Seriously have loved this portrait of venom since its release in '94'. Always daydreamed someone would bring this to life. So pumped for this idea, want XM to at least consider it. I know exactly why they went with that base and I still think it's too busy. If they are going to go with the clock base, at least have much more of Brock visible underneath the Venom costume. Maybe a swap out head that has half of Brock's face showing. Or a swap out top half of the body like Black Widow to show more skin.

We'll have to wait for the final piece, because I can't see how a version that looks like this initial picture will show up to collector's houses in one piece.

Personally I like Venom more, as he is sometimes an anti-hero. Carnage (Cassidy) is pure homicidal rage personified. I do love me some Carnage, but Venom was always more menacing to me. Eddie was the best to me. He was driven. Mac was a great too, but his enhancements push him more to a Carnage area.

I would love a statue of both from XM. Those two and Spidey would be an amazing trio to display.

This statue looks perfect so far

Venom is extremely important to me and was my favorite Marvel character until Cyclops dethroned him a few years ago.

Amazing Spider-Man #317 is actually the comic book that got me into collecting. I'll never forget it and still remains to this day:

- Best Spider-man Issue
- Best Venom Issue
- Best Fight Scene

If anybody doesn't get the 'appeal' to Venom then read this issue. Venom was the worst possible Boogeyman for Spider-Man.

- Knew his identity
- Extremely cunning and intimidating
- Dark humor
- During the fight, nothing Spider-man did was able to even slow Venom down. In the end, it was Peter Parker that defeated him using his brain.

As for that base, its PERFECT. Please do NOT change it. Venom consists of two beings. Eddie Brock's hatred for Parker and the Symbiote's hatred for Spider-Man. When those two met at the church, they became baptized and 'Venom' was born.

That base captures Venom's origin, his intensity, and his darkness. I also like the horror element to it. I find it very creative.

Its a 10 out of 10 so far and my only concern is how the heck do I acquire this statue since I'm in the US.

I agree the concept is fantastic but I understand the concern about it being very busy in the render. As long as the idea and theme stay the same I'd be happy. It tells a story and is unique to the character which is what I love in a base.

I'd like to know as well. I got my Magneto from Mark, but he hasn't responded about Venom yet. Not sure if he's still distributing statues or not as I haven't heard from him since. Would be a shame because this was my most anticipated XM piece (along with SM and Carnage were they to make those). I really can't miss out on this >.<

Yeah it was huge. The base took up a whole coffee table. :eek: That was the only negative of that piece...but it needed it for the wide leg positioning. But the sculpt itself was absolute brilliance. There are some videos on youtube if you want to see how big it is.

Love the size on that one. Eddie Venom should be clearly larger than Spidey and that custom nailed that where SS didn't get their comparative sizings down across the 3.

Yes, SS got it in this dio but that's not what I was referring to.

Was referring to the size of the custom in the pic loricstone posted compared to the Olivetti Comiquettes. The custom is much noticeably larger than the SS.

I don't like either of those poses....not at all. Both my Venom and to a greater degree Carnage had QC issues back in the day.

This is the best Venom I have seen at 1:4. At least the pose isn't all funky.

Of course it all comes down to personal preference but when I think of Venom I don't picture a huge monster like others do, I picture him a bit bigger and bulkier than Spider Man but roughly the same size. That's why to me the comiquette is perfect...don't have a problem with his size at all.

The thing with Venom and the Symbiote in general is it takes characteristics from each person it bonds to. With Parker it took on his basic Spider-Man form, with Eddie it kept the form and took on his envy and maliciousness.

Over time it has bonded to some incredibly sick and twisted individuals. That is why I prefer the hulking monstrosity version. It is the culmination of the characters interaction with the Marvel Universe over time.

I would like a McFarlane Venom sometime too though haha.

Might be heresy, but I really dig the morphing headsculpt. Maybe not comic accurate, but wait to see it painted like in the artwork. That organic wet look of the Symbionte crawling on/in the poor guy.
As per Venom, I want to see it posed. I always imagined Venom as a monstrous entity, nearly deformed due to the morphing nature of the symbionte. I like the "hulking beast" version of him, curious to see him posed with the shattered clock tower.

I would sell the ss spidey and venom to get this better venom with bigger size, more options, 3 portraits, way better detail base, and far superior newer sculpt compare to the ss version imo. The ss spidey PF is not so good compared to the newer spideys. Then the com spidey is only a comiquette size not truly a PF. The ss spidey new PF has a massive ES, with the brown stuff as the base many complain about it but ss never listens to the fans for the most part. Rare times they do which I give them props for the BG face, supergirl face, power girl face, etc.... Notice all the real style faces getting so many complaints.
This venom will be bigger and more details with a better pose and way more switch out parts than the ss venom. :buttrock: can't wat to see the Brock portrait!

I would sell the ss spidey and venom to get this better venom with bigger size, more options, 3 portraits, way better detail base, and far superior newer sculpt compare to the ss version imo. The ss spidey PF is not so good compared to the newer spideys. Then the com spidey is only a comiquette size not truly a PF. The ss spidey new PF has a massive ES, with the brown stuff as the base many complain about it but ss never listens to the fans for the most part. Rare times they do which I give them props for the BG face, supergirl face, power girl face, etc.... Notice all the real style faces getting so many complaints.
This venom will be bigger and more details with a better pose and way more switch out parts than the ss venom. :buttrock: can't wat to see the Brock portrait!

The pose is the main reason why this Venom dwarfs the SS Venom IMO. There is a sense of uncontrolled ferocity and action with the XM Venom. I never could understand the contorted mangled pose of the SS Venom. When I bought the SS Venom years ago along with Carnage, I felt like the symbiote suit had maybe just combined with Eddie Brock and was kind of fighting with Eddie's consciousness. Some may like that pose, but for me it was just weird and really did nothing for me.

I would never sell my Sideshow Venom for this....no way in hell.

Although this does look really nice and if it were easy for me to get XM statues I would get it but since it's not I'm more than satisfied with my Venom comiquette.

Theres still no proof SS is even working on a venom. If they do I'm excited. :buttrock: I know they can kill it for this character. I want to see some competition! It would be good to see SS try to answer XM by giving us more like switch out parts, stronger packing, and listen to fan feedback more. Throw steve schmucker on it. Hehe.. That guy does wonders on any character. I love his sculpts. They are all stunning!
