Looks like Attakus has another pin up lined up. She looks great, but expensive!

Thanks for the heads up on this one. It is large and expensive, but I went for the pre-order as it goes with a nautical theme and looks great!

I was considering it but, that price just took me for a loop...Oh well

I wish it was smaller scale for easier display and lower cost! But it is cool!

I'm shocked that this ended up my first big statue purchase of the year, given all the recent competition (Blitzway's Rocky, H.M.O.'s Nariko, PCS's She-Ra). It seemed somewhat simple and unnecessarily large for the price at first glance, but its economy of style and design made it too hard to vicariously appreciate just through pictures.

Vicki is available for 20% off via Diamond's Previews catalog, which is a nice surprise given that it's an original, non-superhero piece. I don't think statues qualify for free shipping here, but it's only one of three sites I've even seen this offered at a discount.

I found some old photos of the sculptor working on Vicki in the studio, along with some of the statue on display at the festival de palavas. Some of these date as far back as 2013 but give an idea of what she'll probably look like in-hand.

Didn't realize how much she looks like Anna Paquin

She's a really underrated actress (Margaret and Trick 'r' Treat were great, but True Blood killed that career momentum shortly after.) I was really young when the X-Men movies came out, so of course I had a huge crush on her. :p

I like this pin-up statue more than the Black Canary that Sideshow just released. Do they have a pin-up line or is this the only one?

I think the first two or three seasons were great the last few were a bit of a mess. then again I think I only watched three and part of season four.

I dropped off mid-third, but I remember enjoying the first quite a bit. I was more referring to its reputation, which is similar to Dexter in that people went from loving to actively hating it in the later seasons. I want to check out The Piano, but I'm so slow on film-watching these days. I bought someone's entire Criterion Blu-ray collection last month and have watched 1.5 out of, like, 50 of them. :itsb:

Glad to know another fan of this statue, ReplicantSavior. Attakus has other pin-up statues, but they are much smaller (between 5-7 inches.) Olivier Vatine has a few sixth scale statues, like Cixi de Troy and Angela, which are based on his comic characters and almost fit the pin-up bill. This one's the largest, short of Pepette life-size bust.

I'm not sure if this is an official announcement, but Vatine posted this picture of a potential variant. I'm not usually pissed about variants, but this should've been announced with the original so we had the option of choosing before placing a non-refundable deposit elsewhere. Luckily I prefer the original.

Exactly. I also like the Hawaiian motif, although I wish the flowers weren't so obviously pasted on. I still haven't seen this variant confirmed anywhere. All that matters is the original is only a month or two off at this point :happybirt

My wallet doesn't :p but thanks! I also like the darker complexion, although I think the original's blonde hair allows the light to show off the stylized hair sculpt more than the black. If they had mirroring poses (similar to Sideshow's Catwoman and Classic Catwoman PFs) and I could see myself getting both at some point.

I'm still sorting out my feelings on this one. Ultimately, I'm glad to be receiving Vicki over Yuku, but it took a fair bit of contemplation to commit to a piece of its expense and size. The latter especially is the difference between building a display around the piece, like I've done in the past with my Premium Format figures, and casually placing it wherever it fits best with current and future purchases. Based on what we've seen, I'm confident, paint (especially on the sand and flesh tone gradation) and presence-wise, Vicki will justify the commitment.

On a less critical note, it looks like Attakus has these all boxed up and ready to ship to distributors. Vatine already has his displayed.:buttrock:

Prior to the Vicki/Yuku case, I actually appreciated variants for the most part, as I'm a fairly new collector who's bought most of my statues on the aftermarket. Having a variant to choose from, especially if it was harder to find, kept me from pulling the trigger on pieces I wasn't 100% in love with. That of course came from knowing upfront there were multiple options with their respective pros and cons to choose from. I feel bad for some Sideshow collectors because the variants aren't only announced after people's regulars have shipped, but they tend to be more limited, so it's not as simple as selling the regular on EBay when it's readily in-stock elsewhere.

grphyx1
08-26-2016, 03:58 PM
I totally understand wanting to get some of the older pieces. I missed out on a few pieces, not because they came out before I collected, but before I knew I wanted them. Now I'm more selective about what I purchase. With attakus they are not so popular in the US, at one point they sold 1/4 scale Star Wars pieces in the US but that licensing distribution got pulled. So their SW pieces tend to be pricey in that scale.

Attakus usually has stellar paint apps.

jadekite22
08-26-2016, 04:49 PM
Yeah, I've seen that full-size Vader on Vatine's shelf go for crazy aftermarket prices. Among the Star Wars pieces, I really like that, as well as the Boba Fett with his rifle pointed upward and the Twi'lek dancer from Jabba's palace (I'm sure there are plenty more worthy of mentioning.)

I learned of Attakus and BD statues in general through the Hellboy Fariboles put out a year or two ago, which I was surprised beat out the Bowen diorama as my favorite statue of him.

Attakus star wars statues are 1/5 not 1/4...

That's such an unusual scale (or at least one I don't think any companies like Sideshow hold exclusivity over) that I wonder why they weren't allowed to keep the producing the line, especially given the quality. I'm guessing the Disney buyout either jacked up the licensing fees or demanded increased edition sizes?

The overcast in my area doesn't make for ideal photo lighting (then again, you know how bad my phone pics are anyway) but she has arrived and is gorgeous as expected.

The design of the swimsuit highlights the curves more than expected. The flower in her hair and the sandy base are also beautifully crafted. My only issue is application of the eyeliner, which appears a bit thin and takes a bit away from the softness of her expression.

She's also very tall, so MKS's space concern was well-placed. The last quarter-scale piece I received was the massive Batman PF, so the "mere" 22" height is actually a relief in this case.

The base seems rather small given the statue's height and the size of the life preserver. Is it stable (and possibly weighted)?

jadekite22
10-07-2016, 07:59 PM
It's definitely stable, just extremely fragile due to the life preserver being permanently affixed to the figure. It should've come packaged separately with magnetically attachable arms. Even if there was a seam at the wrist, it'd easily coverable due to the actual rope around the life-preserver being somewhat movable.

10-07-2016, 10:16 PM
Yay! I agree. As positive as my reaction already was, I like it more seeing it on the shelf after coming home from work today than I did first opening it (I think Sideshow has instilled a sense of dread, turning anticipation into anxious inspection on arrival day for me.) I've even warmed on the eyeliner application, which makes more sense viewing in it natural light, due to the life preserver casting a shadow on the face.

Vicki's are also glossy upon close examination, but the color doesn't stand out like Yuku's. I'm glad they threaded the really rope through the life-preserver too. The solicitation photos made it look like that would be left out on this version (same with Savannah.)
