Ultimate Comics Scorpion, 3 fingers. And I only really followed Ultimate Spidey once Miles took over so if memory serves correct this version is a Parker clone, correct me if I'm wrong.

I guess this is some hybrid inspiration version. I LOVE the Spidey characters, but 1, price, so I'll only have a few of these anyway. 2, I love them because I read the comics and I know these characters very well so while I often appreciate XM's spin on the various characters, this is one where some of the artistic choices don't appeal to me as much. The tail with big sections instead of the smaller mechanical coils Scorpion usually has, the mask thing, the fingers...if those elements were different I'd dig this more.

I do like the basic costume design Hive has with this statue though aside from the head.

Also this is an alternate reality Scorpion but I really dig this design. Would've been cool to have something similar to but not exactly this. With a more normal Mac Gargantuan head and switch out arms for slightly more classic look.

I would have preferred the OG version, but I'm making my own (omg what am I doing XM $inster $ix). I do love the look of the statue though anyway. I don't prefer the Sinister Six traditional line up so I'm going with:

Kraven, Mysterio, Sandman, Lizard, Scorpion and...

Now, they just need to do Shocker and I'm set. I have Vulture and Electro reserved, but I plan to move those as those characters just don't resonate with me like the above.

I was thinking the same as you all AC, Demona and lucifixion. These heads are so different it'll be interesting to see how they tweaked the body, but I was also thinking how Samurai Batman has the optional shoulder pieces, maybe scorpion has an alternate tail or added armor. Like how Vulture will have 2 sets of wings.

The details once again are extraordinary! I like both the classic and armor version. Quite honestly, this iss one of those statues I will be interchanging around quite a bit. I think all three heads are spectacular (look at the veins in his forehead / temple area).

Another Spidey villain statue I don't see anyone else doing or topping quite honestly! Grats to CN on another spectacular looking statue. Love the concept, small footprint, pose, details, multiple styles, armor version. I can't see anything wrong with this statue / 3D render at all quite honestly!

There's little to no contrast in the green in that pic. Hopefully it's an intermediate WIP, but IMO it needs some yellows and lighter shaded greens to contrast the base dark green. As it is now it looks very bland and Monochromatic.

I think the paint up is fantastic. The cloth material like part of the costume actually looks like cloth and the metallic parts of the costume look like metal. One thing I know from XM pics is take what you see with a grain of salt.

Outside of being able to see if textures are on a sculpt (Kingpin), the colors can't really be gauged until its seen in great crisp pictures and / or in video.

I love what I am seeing, but will wait until STGCC to even begin to judge it. The statue / sculpt itself is second to none though. The details are off the charts. I'm a huge fan of Caleb Nefzen...his work is tops in the industry along with Daniel Bel, Will Harbottle, Mark Newman and a select few others.

Well it fits the statue and nothing wrong with this being on the smaller end of bases. Moon Knight is the same way...except that massive cape kind of eats up space on its own.

I think it would go a long way if you had samples of painted artwork...to convey to XM what it is that is not resonating with you. Everything I have seen from the comics Scorpion looks pretty simple or two...maybe three tones of green. The XM statue appears to have even more than that.

No calendar since the new XM Studios website is up. They are aware we asked for it since a few months but we've seen no move in that way from their side until now. The only thing we know is that you can expect to see a statue in hands 4 or 6 months after PO has started ( sometimes only 3)

From a display perspective, I think I like the modern tail because of how the tip comes up and over the portrait, as opposed to behind like the classic tail.

Agreed. And for most people they will have to turn down items to afford their Mauls, Magnetos, Thanos', and others. This will be aftermarket for me too.

I agree. The railing and lamppost are my least favorite aspects of this statue. Xm will probably have a clever way of concealing those if needed.

I must say that if there's a character Xm has really mastered, it's definitely Magneto. Both XM interpretations of the character are breathtaking.

I am so disappointed by SIdeshow's offering that I am considering taking the White Magneto. I hate the costume (not XM's fault) but the statue is a real masterpiece!!

That’s okay. I understand. I’ve seen his prices and I’m just not that impressed. Here’s an example, he has Electro for $1200 free shipping, I paid $900 shipped for mine. The prices aren’t even close. I’m sure if I built a relationship with him, he would do better but I can’t see him dropping his price that much. Venom is currently $2000. That’s a ripoff.

The fabric cape is bad enough, but it’s made worse by the feeling the cape is simply missing some detail to make it feel more a part of the statue instead of an uninspired last minute addition. I feel like it’s too light too.

Don't forget it's a two-way street. These middlemen get stuck with the XM bill if someone defaults on their purchase/deposit. Apparently, it's pretty common with XM pieces.

Hmm. I have no love for Scorpion as a character, but I think Caleb Nefzen sculpting this will bring enough hype for it retain value (even I was tempted and I'm not a large-scale Marvel collector.) If this two-week PO period indicates it'll be made-to-order, although capped at 999 unlike Catwoman recently, it'll depend how many retailers and middlemen stock up on whether there will too many produced for the market to sustain. I'm sure a lot of the lost value on previous Spidey villains, like Vulture and Sandman, has been due to the enormous space requirements. This one seems more forgiving in that respect.

Yeah, 999 is a lot when taking in the license restrictions, character popularity, etc. so maybe they'll move more toward a direction of producing less. Then again, selling out of a huge ES, even If it's mostly from retailer allocations rather than individual orders, does give them to money to tackle these lesser-appreciated characters in the first place, so I can't say this would be my ideal scenario honestly.

This is why you see various product bundles or rock bottom prices. Hell... I've seen US listings where collectors are pretty much losing their ass just to get rid of a piece.

3. Customers Defaulting on Pre-orders. I'm pretty sure this is a huge issue, probably more than XM is willing to admit. Collectors in debt, running out of space, getting out of the game, getting married, getting divorce, having a baby, supporting both a wife and several girlfriends, losing a job, saving to buy a custom piece, saving for a sex-change... the reasons are endless (valid or not), but it does happen. So it does lead to the seller trying to figure out how to pay XM and move the product quickly. Hence, the reason you'll see a Mysterio on eBay and/or B/S/T for roughly $600-$700 USD.

4. Competition with Customs (and some amazing ones at that). Since White Magneto has been announced how many other Mags are in development? The RCB version is now in collectors hands and you have several more making an appearance. Hell... XM's Omega Red was just announced and now I've seen pics of a custom piece being designed that will rival it. The Customs scene has definitely altered the game.

Very well said. I agree with everything except customs to a degree. I don’t think it effects competition too much just because let’s just say 3-5% actually are on these forums or use Facebook/social media for their statue needs, that’s not a lot of people. I don’t think most people are aware customs even exist or let alone know how to find them. Obviously it can effect a small percentage, which is us but for me personally I don’t buy customs. I’ve been tempted many times but for me it’s just not work the risk of a statue potentially have a nice sculpt but the paint is terrible, statue is hollow, etc. I feel more comfortable with a licensed product which I’m sure people feel that way too so the percentage goes even more down.

It's quite surprising for me to hear people skip out after paying $300-400 deposits. I can definitely not afford to just throw that kind of money away. I don't even like losing Sideshow's $50 deposits LOL.

They are probably thinking that a $300 loss is better than coming up with the additional $600+ balance and then the $250-$300 shipping on top of that. Then you have the chaotic XM release schedule where 3-4 pieces could be shipping within in a month.

It definitely adds up.

The smart money to to wait on 99% of these preorders unless it's a A lister. Even then, the piece should be stunning and not a run of the mill. The reason most of XM's products loosing steam after release is that the characters are second or third tier, and the high price.

I'm surprised to hear people are willing to forgo a few hundred bucks and drop their preorders. Then again it's better to lose $400 than have to cough up another $800 - $900 including shipping. The seller shouldn't lose any money considering he/she got the non refundable deposit.

True, but there would still a balance owed to XM. It's no different than me pre-ordering a bunch of Sideshow pieces at my LCS and the skipping town. The LCS keeps my deposit but they still have to come up with the funds to pay Sideshow (assuming SS extends a line of credit to authorized resellers)

Just my take...Scorp is a fantastic Spiderman villain… Anyone who is into Spiderman rogues knows that the only other statue of him out there is Bowen’s. MTO is the better way to go, assuming this has not been the case up until now. Seeing all these XM pieces sell for below retail is impacting confidence in the pre-ordering process. I remember Bowen going through a similar phase where lower editions became the norm for a spell (i.e., around the time Doc Ock was produced) and it created this rejuvenation in the product in the aftermarket, at which point, pre-orders picked up again. XM has some of its best stuff coming out this year. Things should pick up.

That is a very valid statement that I didn’t take into consideration. The MTO will be very telling with these new pieces and if XM decides to start lowering ES than the after market may not be beneficial anymore. We will soon see!
