Missed this thread, mine can be deleted please mods.

This looks great to me, it's from the wrong movie in an ideal world, and I'm not sold on the Alien Attacker themed base. But over all it is really nice...

Hoping they'll give it the ECC treatment...translucent resin/poly is a must for this!

“I saw... its thoughts. I saw what they’re planning to do. They’re like locusts. They’re moving from planet to planet... their whole civilization. After they’ve consumed every natural resource, they move on... and we’re next.

- Thomas Whitmore (1996)”

Prime 1 Studio is proud to present LSIDR-01 Alien Life-Size Bust from the Independence Day: Resurgence. The Aliens are a nameless race of highly intelligent and technologically advanced extraterrestrial beings. They are a hive mind race with the intention of conquering and harvesting planets at the expense of driving the native population to extinction. The aliens, interestingly, have no name. Even 20 years after the War of 1996, the closest the humans ever come actually naming the aliens is calling the creatures “Them”.

Statue Features:
- Size approximately 32 inches
- Limited quantity worldwide
- High-Quality translucent resin for a lifelike alien skin effect

Retail Price: $699 USD

Edition Size: 350

- Prototype samples shown
- Product details could be subjected to change without further notice."

I really hope Sideshow distribute this, if they do, I may have to bite.

That looks pretty damn awesome, and the price seems quite reasonable.

It's nice to see that Prime 1 is stepping into life-size territory, this looks precisely like something ECC would make.

These two companies are really bringing the joy and excitement back to collecting.

I love the Alien designs in ID4, just don't like the movie that this particular version is associated with, although it is basically the same design and at least it doesn't have a branded plaque on the base. If I knew we were getting an ID4 version, I'd hold off, but I can't see it. And this looks so cool. If I can afford it, I'll bite.

If it was a biomech suit bust, I'd be fully on board. I've always thought that design was more original and frightening than the actual aliens.

That might be too large in 1:1 though.

I got a feeling, this will be the new grail bust, it has the lycan ecc/ SS predator 1 feeling. great price low ES and on top of that an insane design this can only go up
The only problem I have with this is, I did not like the movie :( who else had that problem?

Like Python said earlier, it's basically the same design as the first film and doesn't have a gaudy nameplate/plaque.

So I wouldn't let the fact that it's technically from the new film stop me from ordering it.

I highly doubt they'd ever make a bust from the first film since this is practically the same design.

I'm a sucker for translucent resin plus always liked this alien (I'll just pretend it's from the first film ;) ) so ordered :buttrock:
Had some reward points to use up plus the cd price is quite high so went with a direct order. Hopefully the pound will recover a bit by the time this comes out :praying:

Yeah definitely mate, I really hope the new code becomes the norm. Though it's a shame it wasn't in effect from day one as I would've saved £££££'s :rolleyes2

Yeah I know what you mean. And no, I've had it in my cart about 5 times over the last two days however. I'm a huge fan of this creature design as I've often made clear so this is a dream piece for me (as much as I'm not really a fan of the base, I'd have preferred a simply classy bowl such as ECC does on their Alien busts) I'm just trying to figure out how I'll afford it along side my other orders. The 1:1 P2 bust is coming soon. And then I have absolutely nowhere to put that, never mind this.

All of that said, now I think about it... You only live once, and with the only two PF's I want edging $600, I think I'd be silly not to order this instead and worry later. You can get away with it by buying your mrs a handbag or two, mine is much more difficult, when she see's this she'll have a field day

Do Prime 1 ever respond on here these days? This is my first order from them and I'm really excited about it. I'm just wondering how they will be creating the nice shiny eyes? That could easily be improved with a good coat of alclad (assuming they are painted and not actual lenses which would be even better) But it would be cool if they arrive looking like this already..

I agree, although it is entirely possible that they look much more shiny in person, so I'll reserve judgement on that. Over all this thing looks superb, I know $700 is a lot of money in reality, but I'm still surprised at how relatively good value this is compared to other items in this hobby. And it's genuinely collectible, a rare thing these days. I'm excited for it, my first Prime 1 piece, and if they keep making stuff this awesome, it won't be my last.

Even 1/3s are smaller than a life size bust box on average. Busts take a lot of space in all dimensions where as statues are still mainly vertical.

I could fit 3 of my 1/3 P1 Batman boxes into the box I got for my 1:1 Predator Berserker bust box. Statues can come apart to condense into smaller space, most busts can't do that.

I watched some Tokyo Con footage and I don't think it's the lighting as much as the size of the surface area and the translucent resin. In the Proto pics it comes off as a wet look however now it looks far more like a glaze and as such doesn't do well with any and all lighting reflection. The skin tone seems off too, quite a bit duller. I'm still hopeful this is a piece that looks better when in hand but I do admit to being a tad worried now about the final product.

Seriously people?...Because there have been so many ID collectibles made in the last 20 years this is the one to be super anal about?

It looks fantastic, you will never get another chance to own a life size bust of this piece from any other company.....ever.....much less in translucent resin.

So ether pay up or.....you know the rest.

*Don't worry, no spoilers ahead*

Ok so I just watched ID4:2 because I hadn't seen it yet. With the soon to be released new collectibles I was thinking that maybe part 2 just really kicks @ss and I should maybe jump on board because it blows part 1 out of the water!

So yea... I was disappointed in part 2. Though this piece is cool. I won't be on board for any collectibles from the film. Was really hoping part 2 had something new to offer the franchise but it was just part 1 with a different cast. Far too many Hollywood shots of the whole cast and cheap one liners. The story had no depth either, it was all... "here come the aliens so let's go fight em" flick. Bummer...

:thumbsdow

But the collectibles look awesome!

First off, constructively voicing concern and asking questions are not about being anal as much as they are about working to alleviate the anxiety and worry that is now surfacing as I see a production piece that I simply do not love at the moment. As somebody who did pay up for this piece I do think that allows me to constructively speak up in regards to my own potential worries and concerns. After all, for many, there's absolutely no point in purchasing something that you no longer love merely because it's a "once in a life time opportunity".

At the end of the day the fact remains that thankfully this forum is still for people like myself to ask questions and get second opinions to voiced concerns in hope that we can alleviate our fears and enjoy the item we PO'd instead of just blindly purchasing an item only to regret it after. I'd much rather that then a place where people disregard the fears and concerns of others merely to effectively tell them to shut up and deal with it.

I wouldn't judge anything from those pics the resolution is so poor it just smudges all the details together (even the black tablecloth looks a pixelated mess!) The eyes we knew weren't chrome and look the same as the proto to me (given the different lighting conditions) but those will be getting a repaint anyway when I get mine.

I think what we can learn from all products with translucent resin that it misleads cameras. TR picks up light different and it always looks changed under various light conditions (ECC's The Grey for instance).
I wouldn't be too worried. Prime 1 is yet to let us down.

Not sure why people always say this. It's just simply not true. As long as nostalgia exists, there will always be someone out there who will eventually make another of whatever this statement is attached to.

With my collectibles, I live by "If you don't like this one, just wait for the next one" philosophy. It has always held true. You just have to be patient.

This thing should've had an ES of 150 or less. It may pickup some steam when folks have it in hand since P1's stuff is quite impressive.

While enjoy watching the ID films as pure sci-fi cheese. I only find the ship somewhat iconic.

You can see the purple coming through in that video. Some of the greenish color could just be an effect of the lighting/photography as others have suggested.

Good to hear it isn't actually green and it is the lighting etc throwing it off as suspected. Half way paid for this guy and excited for him..

You said a lot there and nothing at the same time.

We're adults that buy expensive toys, some people approach it like they're having a new born. Overkill in my opinion.

Order the thing, when you get it in hand decide if it meets your standard or not. If not, send it back. It's really very simple.

If only it were this simple for all of us, unfortunately this approach would cost some of us hundreds of dollars in return shipping and a nightmare dealing with customs trying to get a refund of the duty with no guarantee of receiving it.

In this case, I didn't really see the outrage? Just one deceptive image that was explained away, all is good.

The video of this looks incredible.
I think the paint may be imbedded in the translucent resin which makes this very hard to photograph. Doesn't it look really wet though?
Still wish for chromed eyes. This would look great with ECC's Guyver.

So say you really loved Predator 2, and after seeing the CoolProps version on the Sideshow website, then right before it was released you saw the paint job looking like this..Would you still be happy with it?

I only have one item that utilises translucent resin, the ECC Grey alien bust. The effect doesn't look slimy at all, it's kind of hard to explain the effect in person other than to say it looks good. It picks up the light and adds a little life to it. I suspect an item of this size will really benefit from it.

The translucent resin will have a tint to it that forms the base colour, but the details will be painted on top of that. I think they went a high gloss wet look as that's how the alien looked in the film as seen in the screen caps posted earlier in the thread (which I know are from the first film but let's face it that's what they're going for)

I think they refund the NRD once it's been delayed for a certain period of time, in that sense I sometimes like delays as they're like a get out of jail card ;) I've been tempted a few times to cancel this in favour of the 1/3 colonist maquette, or just to save for future Alien and Predators from them. I received an email today saying this is arriving EARLY...

It's now shipping on the 10th (tomorrow) for those who choose to take the early shipment. Has anybody else on here actually ordered this via Sideshow? I've left mine to ship on the 25th as I'm still in two minds whether to keep it (I'd like to) Or be sensible and shift my funds towards the $1600 I just dropped on the Prime 1 Dog Alien. It is in the back of my mind that a 1/3 Big chap and several Predators are on the way, all of wich will likely cost at least that much again! I am hoping to see pictures of this from some of you guys before the 25th. It may help me decide.

350 unless that reduced since I last looked? But your point remains the same as that's still a very low ES. I suspect this will be hard to get hold of once it ships and sells out. I havn't lost any interest in it at all, it's just that there is so much to choose from currently. All of which is expensive and large (Prime 1 1/3 line) It's hard to prioritise...

Just had a huge box arrive at my door containing my very first Prime 1 item. Since P1 started making more items I'm interested in, I've started to buy into the hype around the company. And I'm happy to report that said hype is very well deserved! I'v had many collectibles from many different companies, I think this might be the best one I've had yet in terms of quality with only ECC coming close.

So onto the bust. In short, it's beautiful! Anybody who is a fan of ID4 needs to just buy this thing before it's gone. You won't regret it. It is definitely a piece that is difficult to photograph and indeed my pictures will not do it justice. In person it looks alive, you almost expect the hand to move. The translucent resin offers so much to the over all look and feel. The paint on it is of a higher quality than any collectible I've ever owned. It has so much going on and changes depending on the light levels. Even the base which you expect to be a simple grey has a plethora of blues and burnt metal colours in it.

There are only two critiques I can even think of. First, the eyes should definitely have been painted in chrome. They aren't bad in person tbh, they do a job. But considering the effort that clearly went into this bust, the chrome eyes would have been the cherry on top. I'll give mine some soon. And second is those seems which were my biggest worry going in. They are definitely there, and definitely noticeable, but even I as somebody who hates to see them on anything can live with these. I'd rather they weren't there for sure, but they do not ruin the bust.

In short, I intended to box this back up until my games room has been decorated (eventually) But there's no way I'm hiding this away, I've moved some other pieces aside so that this can sit on my PC desk right next to me. Just buy it. We'll likely never see this character made to this standard, for this price ever again. It's a work of art, well done Prime 1.

Hi Python, great photos, thanks for sharing. Can I ask where you ordered this from and was the shipping expensive to the UK? I also live in the UK & I'm tempted but don't want all the high extra costs.

Hi Steve, I bought it from Sideshow, shipping was pretty high at $183.61. Then of course you have the 20% duty on top of all of that. It's a bugger, but it's unavoidable. I'm not sure there is a cheaper way to get this unless one comes up on ebay.

That said, they currently have the 10% off and free shipping for US customers (This is now a no brainer for US customers!) You'll not get the free shipping, but you could always try the code to see if the 10% off works. Or ask CS nicely if it doesn't.

No problem! I just did a quick working out. If you can get the 10% discount which I'm sure you could. This will be about £736 to the UK in total (including import duty/vat) To put that into context, CDUK whom seem to be the only UK seller with this are asking for £850. So direct might be the way to go. You could also get a Halifax clarity card to save a few quid on currency conversion fees. Best of luck.

Prime 1 currently have 25% off of this in their sale which is a little annoying. But good news for those who don't own it yet...

It's less than most current PF's... For an amazing 1:1 bust produced with translucent resin.

Just bought one of these on the secondary market, after cancelling my initial preorder it’s one I regretted letting go and it’s still always caught my eye. Hopefully should get it early next week.

Matt did you ever chrome the eyes on yours? It’s the first thing I plan to do when I get it in hand.

Nice, I suspect you'll like this one once it arrives. And no, not yet. Mine is sat in the corner of my games room but I've been working constantly this year and decorating in my rare free time (so much to do still, arrrgh) I will do them eventually however for sure. I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Just got the Bust in and WOW very impressed! It’s bigger than I thought it would be and the paint job is awesome it can easily hold its own against my Ecc busts. Absolute bargain considering the quality and edition size! The seams don’t bother me really as when on display you don’t notice them, only negative is the eyes which are plain silver when they should be chrome.......but that’s already fixed ;)

Awesome piece. Heck of a bargain too for what you get. Sad that not too many people got into this and the line eventually got cancelled. I remember people were complaining about how the color looked totally off compared to the prototype but what they didn't understand was that this whole thing was translucent resin and the colors changed depending on the lighting as can be clearly seen by your pics. Congrats on the piece and the update you made btw!

Interesting, they look to go on a bit thick, but that might actually be a benefit in this case given the texture on the standard eye. Alclad will show all of that whereas yours seems to have given a nice shiny/smooth finish without the need for sanding. So how was the final finish in person? No visible smudges or pen/brush marks etc?

It’s the perfect consistency thick enough not to run everywhere but thin enough to spread easily. It basically self levels when you put it on, really interesting to watch actually as when you very first apply it, it looks hazy then as it levels out it chromes over (and for the first time ever making watching paint dry actually interesting!)
Plus the more it dries the greater the chrome effect becomes as it levels out even more. Those pics I took were before it was completely dry.
alclad is great but like you say because it goes on so thin it shows every imperfection.

Thanks, I've had mine for quite a long time. ID4 was the highest grossing movie for many years and is still relevant and watchable to this day thanks to its brilliant practical effects, so you'd think it would have a bigger fan base within our community given it's wonderful creature and vehicle designs etc. It's a shame that Prime 1 cancelled the Alien maquetts, I was looking forward to those. But this bust really is awesome, for this kind of price it's a no brainer for anybody with even the slightest interest in ID4.

This awesome bust finally sold out! Shame it took so long, if it had been a better seller, who knows what similar products we might have seen. Still, I'm happy I have this thing. It's easily the the best balanced collectible I have in my entire collection in terms of quality vs price.

Look forward to those modded pics! (In the correct thread obviously!) I need to redo mine, they’ve held up well but to get a perfect finish I should of really gave them a light sand and gloss coat before going in with the chrome :thumbs2:

Moving this discussion to the relevant thread before we annoy people. :eplus2: As I briefly mentioned, I am correcting the eyes on mine next week. Usually I would sand and alclad them. But alclad is a delicate thing and shows every single blemish. I was so impressed by your results that I ordered a Molotow 2mm liquid chrome pen yesterday. I was going to just use that until I saw your post above. Should I be reconsidering? Or should I stick to the plan and just add a light sanding into the mix first? I've never used the stuff before so I'm going on your experience with it.

I'd give it a quick sand first just to make sure there's no grit in the original paint. It does go on thick though so the coverage is good but i'd suggest you get one of the thicker pens also. The 2mm is good for the edges but as it's fairly quick drying you need to get the surface covered fairly quick.

Python

Thank you, I was torn on which size to order, so I decided upon the 2mm thinking it would be better for the edges. I'll order a second one now in the 4mm size. Out of interest, why are you redoing yours? Are there any issues with the paint chosen, or is it just that you can still see the texture underneath?

To get rid of some of the textures yes but also I tried giving it a clear coat to give the finish a bit of protection (as you know most chrome paints are fairly sensitive to being touched) but it didn’t react well and hazed over a bit.

I've got mine on top of an Ikea display case (Besta I think without checking) It's 40cm deep also and this fits just fine with plenty of space. It's a decent sized bust, but it has a fairly small footprint. Buy it and thank us later.... :thumbs2:

Is there some part of the arms sticking out in the front or is it whole the bust profile in those 40cm? Weigth wise, is it insanely heavy (more than 20kg/44pounds) like other life-size busts or light, like the ECC alien ones? Thank you very much for your rapid response. Independence Day is not one of my favourite films but I love extraterrestrial beings and this design is superb.

Well mine is on top of a 60cm wide, by 40cm deep unit. The base takes up very little space, the arms are both contained within that area. I'd say that the back of the head sticks out a little, but that's not really an issue as you could just move the whole thing forward which would presumably mean that it's face would just stick out slightly into open air.

Weight wise, this has a nice solid weight to it, but it's not obnoxiously heavy or anything. It's heavier than the ECC grey Alien but it's also much larger so it should be. It also has the same quality as that bust in that this has an extra layer of life to it, presumably due to the translucent resin. That's the only ECC bust I bought so can't compare it to any others. I don't think it's over 20kg, although it doesn't feel far off. But then I'm out of shape this year, it's been a while since I lifted any numbered plates. I'll try to get a picture tomorrow when it's light. If you like the design of the Aliens in ID4, you'll be very happy with this bust I think. :thumbs2:

Excuse the rubbish phone pictures. Use these as a size reference only rather than representing the quality of the bust. It's dark again here, I'll get some better pictures of this once I've fixed the eyes (playing around with the markers now on a few test pieces) As you can see, it easily fits on a 40x60cm case. Only the head is wider/longer...
