I don't order near as many as some people here, but I've been collecting since 2009 so I have a lot of boxes. I actually had to get a storage unit in a climate controlled building for all of my boxes. I could store statues there too, it's actually an amazing facility.

Potentially planning on building a custom home in a few years, which will have custom cabinets and a whole custom room dedicated to my collection. Would rather just house them for now rather than purging and then regretting later.

That's not so bad then. I thought the storage was a permanent space solution.

My home is 3800 sqft but I'm actually planning on downsizing to something a lot smaller in the next few years as the kids go off to college.

I've sold off a few statues that I regret including the Original PF Green and Grey Hulk, Grey Hulk vs Spidey etc. but that's a topic for another thread. lol

I say I'm going to quit but I'll probably go back to like 2-4 statues a year or something. I might go back to collecting model cars as well, but I was seriously thinking about picking up an old hobby of mine I haven't messed around with in a really long time - drawing/painting. Drawing and painting would be a hell of a lot cheaper too lol.

I would commit myself for psychiatric help if I had a list like that. I question my sanity with 3 pre-orders, lmao. I have more inner conversations lately, "do you really need that? Do you really need a $600 plastic statue of a comic character? You do realize these are just painted plastic!"

I've always said I was going to quit after my last pre-orders but something always come up that I want. After January, I will be down to 3 pre-orders but I know I want 2 more and looking at my basement, I am running out of space for the boxes. Heck, I ran out of space and I face palm myself and ask why I bought this and that (not just statues, but action figures, models, comics, etc.)

Thankfully, there is the garbage pick up every week :)

I would commit myself for psychiatric help if I had a list like that. I question my sanity with 3 pre-orders, lmao. I have more inner conversations lately, "do you really need that? Do you really need a $600 plastic statue of a comic character? You do realize these are just painted plastic!"

How are you guys able to preorder XM so easily?

I got in on XM at the start. I networked on the forums and built up a relationship with handful of contacts and friends in eligible countries.

One friend has supplied 8 of my delivered XM statues. So, as soon as I see a sneak or WIP, I just message him that I'm going to pre-order it and my spot is reserved. I pretty much get a shot at anything that comes up as long as I put in my interest early.

It was definitely a risk at the beginning, but all in all, I've had zero issues with any of the sources I've used.

It's not a lot compared to others, but I'm putting the brakes on the ordering spree.

It's easy to put a few hundred dollars down for a pre-order. But with the current exchange rate, plus prices for statues have generally gone up a lot, I'm feeling the pinch already, & it really hits you when the time comes to fork out the balance once the stocks arrive. Gotta cut back.

Plus I'm running out of my space in my room. Haha.

Missed your quote in my last post. You'll find out (very quickly) that space is always an issue. 1/4 scale fills up a room fast and 1/3 goes even faster.

Lots of us get a piece and then sell it later on down the road to make room for something new.

2017 is shaping up to be my last year of full-blown collecting. I've shifted my focus to how I want to display my collection. That needs time and attention instead of just tossing several pieces on a shelf and calling it good. But, that's just me. For some, they have their own ideas - just find what works for you and have a blast doing it. It's a great hobby filled with great people.

Some of these longer lists I assume are adding to existing collections.I would like to know as a new collector about your space requirements and how are they displayed (srs man I need some tips). A statue in a box (like my PF Boba Fett) is a sad statue.

I don't know if I'm jealous of your guy's disposable income or pity the way you throw it away. If I could afford 20+ POs of statues that cost over a grand each I would not be buying statues. I would be investing in properties and becoming one of the 1%. Not remaining in the middle class with a kitchen full of statues. You either have too much money and don't know what to do with it, don't have enough money and are getting some serious debt, or full of crap. But I am just hating purely out of jealousy. Like... that is so many statues.

Yeah, I'm with you. The GG one was clearly movie and I felt it was on the small side. It was very nice though and I appreciate why others may prefer it.

He could also be saving, have 5 kids to feed, funding a small war in Africa...we really don't know. Everyone's situation is different.

First off, not everyone wants to become one of the 1%. If thats your goal in life then great, by all means have at it, but there are people out there that are perfectly content with thier current level of income and really have no desire to continually increase how much money they are making. Some people find other things FAR more important.

I am actually a perfect example as I only work from mid April to late September (sometimes early October if the weather holds), so basically I only work 5-6 months out of the year. I could very easily get a 2nd job during my off season or just continue taking architetcural jobs all year long in warmer parts of the country and significantly add to my income, but I dont as I would MUCH rather make 130-150k a year and have 6 months off than make 250+k a year and work all year long. Those 6 months off allow me the freedom to partake in many of the hobbies that I personally enjoy (large format photography, charcoal drawing, creating wire tree's, growing bonsai trees, backyard astronomy and astrophotography, travelling, kayaking, mountain biking, etc). Those hobbies and the enjoyment I get from them are FAR more valuable to me than making more money as my #1 goal in life is not to make as much money as humanely possible. I am FAR FAR happier with the way things are now than I ever would be working 52 weeks a year and basically trading all of my time with my hobbies for a longer work schedule and more money.

You either have too much money and don't know what to do with it, don't have enough money and are getting some serious debt, or full of crap. But I am just hating purely out of jealousy. Like... that is so many statues.

Well, we certaily don't have too much money, but we do know what to do with the money that we have. 15-20% of every paycheck both my wife and I recieve gets invested and we have been doing that for just over 10 years now. We basically split it between precious metals, stocks and keeping it as cash in the bank. And we buy physical precious metals, not paper. That Ponzi scheme that is paper precious metals will collapse in on itself someday and all the people left holding paper precious metals will be wondering what the hell happened.

As for debt, I paid off all my student loans within 6 years of graduating and we pay off all our credit cards at the end of every month. Our house in Costa Rica is paid off and were only about 4 years away from paying off our house in Michigan. So we really have no debt so to speak and any money I spend on my hobbies is purely disposable income. The fact that you disagree with spending that kind of money on statues...well, no offence, but that is irrelvnant to me. I buy statues for my enjoyment, nothing more and nothing less. What other people think of my collecting purchases is irrelvant to me.

As for your accusation that people are full of crap if people don't fit into your first 2 descriptions (1 - have too much money and don't know what to do with it and 2, don't have enough money and are getting some serious debt)....well, I guess some people believe what they want to believe. I won't post my wife's accounts as she would get super pissed if I did that, but if you want me to post the main page for my personal accounts at Chase (savings, individual retirment account, etc.), I would be more than happy to do so. I'll just blur the account numbers out. Of course, people posting thier bank statements because a few members have really warped beliefs just seems like poor taste in my book.


He could also be saving, have 5 kids to feed, funding a small war in Africa...we really don't know. Everyone's situation is different.

I'm a Subaru guy myself, but like you I keep my cars for very long periods of time. My last Subaru lasted me just over 9 years. I just got a new one 2 years ago and I expect I will have it for at least another 6-7 years.

Now that would be damn cool, but not for me. I'm definitely looking at a larger space . Around 3000-4000 sqft home in the next two years.

I utilize a few rooms in my house were I have certain pieces/artwork displayed and swap them out every few months.

What I don't display goes into "The Vault" (aka my portable storage), which I'm perfectly fine paying for since it serves as an extension of my home and allows me some freedom.

Many of the collectors who order 10s of thousands of $$ worth a year are constantly selling to buy or are going into debt to fund their hobbies. And it's not just this hobby, I see this in many hobbies. Fiscal responsibility is a rarity in this society. So don't feel bad for being realistic and responsible.

Eventually, I will definitely get around to photographing my collection, along with taking really nice studio pictures of certain individual statues as that is something I have wanted to do for a very long time, but I won't do it until I am personally content with my various displays as I am a perfectionist at heart when it comes to these kinds of things, especially on the photography side.

Lighting has been my biggest issue as I have been trying to find an electrician that will design an individual snake light LED lighting system for me and I have not had good luck on this front. I am ready to call a commercial lighting company to see if its something they would be willing to produce.

Anyways, I will definitely upload pictures of my collection, but only when I feel my collection is ready to be photographed and again I am just not there yet. I'm getting close, but there is still some work to be done.

This!!! SO SO THIS!! The average smoker spends almost $2,000 a year on that habit. The people that go to the bar every weekend likely spend thousands of dollars on that every year. One of my best freinds stops in at Starbucks every day on his way to work and gets some triple espresso drink that literally costs him like $7-8 and he literally buys that drink every day on his way to work. The money people spend on fast food, stopping and buying a water or pop at a gas station, etc. All those purchases adds up to be significant amounts of money in the long run.

Myself, I have like 4-5 different Kor water bottles (I love that company) and I never leave home without one. That way if I get thirsty, I have healthy filtered water right there and don't need to spend any money at 7-Eleven or a gas station. Neither my wife nor myself smokes. I do drink occassionally, but very modestly. A six pack of Murphies Irish stout will last me a couple weeks. And my wife will go through a bottle of wine every 3 or so weeks and the wine she likes is only like $13 bucks a bottle.

On top of that we save money every chance we get. We use cashback sites every time we purchase from the internet. My current total for FatWallet alone is over $4,000. We use coupons when we grocery shop and since we pay off our credit cards at the end of every month, were actually making money off the credit card companies and not the other way around. I think I mentioned this once before, but the last 2 HDTV's we purchased and our Dyson Vacuum were purchased with American Express reward points.

Plus when I am on the job, everything gets paid for by the client. All food, travel, hotels, gas, snacks, etc. And I charge everything so I get maximum cred card points on all of those purchases. Frequent Flyer miles are another huge perk to my job. I have enough right now to get at least 4 round trip tickets to anywhere in the world.

Even tho my wife and I make very good money, we both buy 90% of our clothing/shoes from Sierra Trading Post and they always have additional 25-40% off coupons and thier clothing is already heavily discounted. So most of the clothing we buy we get for at least 60%-70% off.

In other words, this topic goes well beyond just how much money you make. How much you spend and your lifestyle in regards to spending plays a HUGE role is just how far that money will go. If your really smart and you use all the tools available (Coupons, Cashback sites, credit card points, waiting for sales, etc.), you can make 50,000 feel like 75,000 and you can make $100,000 feel like $150,000. Well, maybe not that much, but you get my point.

At least for us, its our choice to live modestly that has allowed us to accumulate the amount of investments and savings that we have thus far. We could buy super expensive cars, but we don't. We could have purchased a really big home, but we didn't. She could be buying Gucci purses but she doesn't. I could be buying really expensive clothing from companies like Belstaff, but I don't. We live very modest lives given the amount of money we make and again, that more than anything else has been responsible for the amount of money we have saved and the amount of investments we have made.

Yeah, I am very fortunate as I have a job that I am extremely passionate about and I make very good money doing it. On top of that I was mentored by some of the greatest architectural photographers of all time. Balthazar Korab was one of them. Honestly, working with Balthazar Korab with architectural photography is like working with Tyra Banks or Heidi Klum if you want to be a model or George Clooney if you want to be an actor. But what you don't realize when you look at those numbers is that I BUST my a*s during those 6 months. 60-70 hour work weeks are very common and during the last 6-8 weeks I am literally working 80-90+ hours per week.

For exteriors, I literally have to have the camera set for my first shot by the time the sun breaks the horizon and we don't stop shooting until the sun goes down. For local jobs that means getting up at roughly 3:30 AM, getting all the gear loaded and driving out to the location in time to get everything set up. Its a bit easier with out of town jobs as you usually get a hotel that is right by the shooting location. With interiors I have had shoots that literally lasted 20-26 hours straight.

As I have stated on this forum on a couple of occassions, it literally takes me like 4 weeks to recover from that last 6-8 week stretch. It makes doctors work schedules seem petty by comparison. So while I do make very good money in roughly just 5-6 months time, I am really busting my a*s for that money. Its one of the most physically demanding jobs out there.

Actually, my collection isn't that big at all as I lost all of my collectibles in a house fire back in 2008, including all of the statues I owned, and I just started collecting statues again a couple years back. I have twice as many statues on pre order than I personally own right now. So my collection will literally be twice as large once I recieve all of my current pre orders. Its not like I have been ordering statues like this for 10 years striaght. Before this last year the most statues I had ever had on pre order at one time before was like 4-5. Basically, I went statue crazy this last year and that was largely due to me pulling back in a big way on my print purchases and shifting my focus to statues instead.

No, it really wouldn't have considering I have had quite a few people asking me to take pictures for some time now. Continually replying with a simple "I dont have any pictures" would only wind getting responces of why havnt I taken pictures yet. I felt it was better to explain why I haven't taken pictures yet. Again, I'll take pictures when I feel my collection is ready to be photographed. Not a second sooner.

Actually, no. Most of my free time during my off season is spent on my other hobbies. I would estimate that roughly half that time is spent shooting pictures for myself since I dont get to shoot any personal photoography during my working months. And cosidering we usually spend around 2-3 months down in Costa Rica during the winter months, I am not even in the states half of that time. Were headed back down there next week. As for you wishing you had 6 months off out of the year, I imagine most people do, lol. Its never too late to start over. Just invest in about $45,000 in photography equipment and learn how to shoot architectural pctures. Then you can have 6 months off out of the year as well. Hell, if your content with a really modest income (30-40k a year), you could have up to 9 months off out of the year. Imagine that!!

I have no architecture background, beyond finding architecture extremely interesting. I have an architectural photography background, but no formal training as an architect. And just out of curiosity, but how is my training as an architetcural photographer going to make my statue collection epic? I am just not seeing the connection between architectural photography and statue collections. As for your Heidi Klum comment, that was actually a poor representation on my part as Balthazar Korab did more for architectural photography than Hiedi ever did for fashion or modeling. The point I was making should have been easy enough to understand tho. Guess that one just flew over your head.

As for your sarcasm, which can be found in pretty much every sentence in this post, Ill just ignore that altogether. Epic snake light LED pictures, lol. I have to admit, that one had me laughing. I'll tell you what, you go ahead and stick with your 6 packs of puck lights from Cost Co. I collect all the statues, lol. Thats funny as I clearly remember a whole bunch I wanted this year but could't afford to buy.

I have the best life? Hmm, I have been in pain management for the last 15 years due to serious back problems. I have had 2 spinal surgeries (Fusion of L5 and S1 and removal of hardware) and its only gotten worse. So I live a large portion of my life in considerable pain. On top of that, I spent 3 month in an intensive care unit 2 years ago with a staph infection that almost killed me and I had to spend anothr 3 month at home with a home IV system. I still havent recovered fully from it and now have Mitral Valve prolapse with my heart due to that infection. I will likely need open heart surgury within the next 2 years to have it fixed. Yeah, thats the perfect life right there!!!!

As for my equipment, I struggled for roughly 8 years putting pretty much every dime I had into my equipment. Hell, I lived on Ramen noodles for like 3 years, lol. That was a choice and one anyone could make if they chose too. And you clearly have reading issues beyond your other issues as I do drink, I just do so modestly. Murpies Irish Stout is my preferred alcoholic beverage.

But, I do have an absolutely amazing wife, a fantastic son, and we are doing very well financially. Sorry you find that so bothersome. Sounds to me like you have some unresolved issues myself, but thats just me. And for the record, the house we have in Costa Rica was my fathers and was passed down to me when he passed away. I would burn that house to the ground to have him back in my life, without hesitation.

Actually, that reply was to your posts, not his. My reply to his post was very short and simple, in which I explained that I wasn't going to take pictures of my collection until I was satisfied with how it looked as I am a perfectionist when it comes to that kind of thing, especially in regards to lighting. The whole thing about Korab and my photography was again in reply to you not him. So asking how you can go from asking for a picture to the post I gave makes absolutely no sense at all as again that post had absolutely nothing to do with his post and asking for a picture. Again, that post was aimed directly at you and the previous posts you had made.

And the purpose of my post to you, which clearly went over your head, was that while I am very fortunate to have the job I have and to have been brought into the business by the people that brought me in, I PAY DEARLY for the 6 months off that I get each year as my working months are absolutely INSANE with shifts that make even long doctor shifts seem petty by comparison. Again, 90+ hour work weeks are common especially in the final 2 months. I guarantee there are very few people in this world that have worked those kinds of hours for 6-8 weeks in a row. So the real question you should be asking is not "how does someone asking for a picture turn into me knowing you studied under an architecture photography mogul", but how does someone comepletely lose track of who someone is talking too on a board like this when you have quotes at the beginning of each post showing who thier talking too. Just take a quick peek back and look. Thats your name and your posts I quoted in those posts, not Atimantium's. Statue Forum: The Fortune 500 Club! :)

In all seriousness, it's cool to hear the backstory of how people acquire/afford their statues.

For me, I decided I needed to make a bit more money for statues. I started a business which I invest zero dollars into and advertise purely through Kijiji and social media.

I now have a fairly lucrative business that I do from the comfort of my own home. What started as a means to meet an end, has now become an exciting opportunity that has opened a new career for me. Thank you statue collecting!!

Well I'll tell you one more Gary! We actually rob the elderly with money scams to pay for our statues!! We actually call people of 70 years old or older... we let them know we're friends of their grandchildren and they are in jail and we need $2,000 to bail them out... last year we made over $50,000, but I think we're going to try and change up our approach and just rob some banks as we're starting to have guilty conscience, especially after pulling the scam on my husbands grandparents! That made for awkward family Christmas party... lol

Yeah, its a great hobby to share with kids, My son will turn 13 this year and he was a big comic and figure fan from the beginning. He got into all of the animated shows that I really loved like Superman and Batman the animated series and Justice League Unlimited. Most of his collection is cheaper statues like Batman black and white and Kotobukia, but we did buy him a Batman and Superman PF statue and the TMNT's I am in the process of buying right now are for him. I can't wait to be able to give them to him as he is just a HUGE TMNT fan. To be able to give him the entire set, and EX's at that....well, I know he is just going to be absolutely thrilled.

One of the best things about having kids is sharing these kinds of hobbies and expereinces with them. We also play a lot of video games together. My father did the same thing for me as he was the one that got me into collecting when I was young. We collected stamps and coins together and collecting has remained a big part of who I am all throughout my life and I really own all of that to my father.

And congraulations on recently becoming a father. Becoming a father has been withut a doubt the most rewarding expereince of my life and I plan to eventually pass all of my collections onto him someday, just like my father did with me.

I'm pretty much in the same boat. I went statue crazy the last 16 months largely becasue I had lost my entire statue collection back in 08 and really didn't have many statues and I decided I wanted to get back into the hobby. The main reason I joined this forum was because of the Aspen print thread, not due to statues. And my deciding to collect statues again just happened to coincide with Sideshow having what I consider to be thier best year to date. Just one statue after another I just couldn't say no too, but I will definitely be cutting back going forward. There are still a few characters that I deem must have like Thanos and some of the latter Justice LEague members and I would definitely be open to buying any new versions of my favorite characters like Wonder Woman, Catwoman, Red Sonja, etc, but all of the other statues I ordered this year I will be done with. I don't need multiple Captain Marvel statues or Huntress statues and I am pretty much done with Batman. I might buy another Superman somewhere down the line if Sideshow produces a really nice one I can't say no too.

From here on out I will likely only buy 4-5 statues a year. My replica weapon collection will be the one I continue to focus on fully. I absolutely love science fiction replica weapons and with a new Mass Effect game coming out I have no doubt Triforce will be producing a bunch of new Mass Effect weapons down the line. Those I just won't be able to say no too.

I find the Nigerian prince scam works the best. Just claim to be a government official or a member of a royal family and request assistance in transferring millions of dollars of excess money out of Nigeria. Always make sure the message is of an urgent and private nature. You just promise to pay the person for his or her help in getting the money out.
