Frazetta's painting was hard for me to tell if that was blood or lava on base so I kinda went with a hybrid of blood and lava.

Weathered and repainted boots...I don't have before pics but it was a basic 1 color silver.
Also added stud outside of spurs.

Changed out the tassels on the stirrups.

ARH hooked me up with 1 extra left and right arms/weapons...they were pretty cool about my situation...I had a mishap with my yard guys blowing my things down my hill, had no idea where it was and I definitely thought it was gone for good.
I later found it at the bottom of my hill buried and broken in the dirt and leaves...by then I already received and repainted the replacement parts... so I planned on customizing the broken parts. Wanna redo the axe hand to let the axe lean over his shoulder than add a switchout sword and big axe to the shield arm and make them all interchangeable.

That is incredible attention to detail. I would never have thought of that and even if I had I would have just written it off to he has one more sword than he has scabbards, not a big deal.

Found some time to make some small adjustments to match Franks painting a little more...the horse stirrup was set up high under the chain link skirt where you couldn't see the connected ring like in Franks painting...added the rings than lowered and reset boot/stirrup to match painting.

Did more work on the base...added some puddles of a molten blend of blood and lava...put a little more separation with the earth tones mud/dirt and rock to contrast a little from the rider and steed.

Yes, I asked Ehren about it today and he says it must be something China did to match parts, he doesn't recall doing it and that number doesn't have any significance to him.

Thinking of putting a Conan swap out head to continue my Deathslayer projects that I had done before, this would be the 5th Conan/Deathdealer project that I have done.

Gonna use Frazetta’s Barbarian bust sculpted by Tim Bruckner that I have dug out of my garage, it was never built or painted...Conan under the helm...maybe with some Conan weapons.

Is that the Barbarian Bust sculpted by Tim? I really wanted to get one but it was pretty expensive and I would have had to hire a painter as well so I passed but it looked fantastic for sure.

Update...forgot to mention been using black apoxie fixit for bottom of hair so I don't have to worry about paint chips or scrapes where hair will seat on torso...also tried to make Conan a little younger and less seasoned when taking on the helm of the Deathdealer.

I like it a lot. The face looks a LOT different once you soften the scars. I would have left it out of personal preference and love of the Barbarian painting but what you did sure brings it much closer to that DD unmasked look you posted earlier.

I figured if Conan ever took the helm of the Deathdealer like in my Deathslayer projects, I wanted it as a younger Conan...the Conan savage bust that I converted showed a really aged 50 something Conan.
I really took a close look at the bust and much as I loved the bust it looked aged beyond Frazetta’s Barbarian painting IMO, lots of deep deep lines and folds, the bust was more in line age wise to be a king Conan.
I ended up doing a ton of dremeling and sanding on the folds and filled in the deep lines to bring him to a more late 20’s or early 30’s and couldn’t be happier with the end results.

Yeah I did add fur! Deathdealer looks cool with or without the fur, the Conan head looks exceptionally cool with the added fur.

I didnt take any good distance shots with the steed yet... been focusing on the WIP, doing a lot of cleanup and touch up on steed casting and Painting, didn’t like the blue dry brush done on the steed.

Thanks unicorn, appreciated... been wanting to hang the helmet off the steed when using the Conan head, to make that work I had to seperate the hair from the helmet and had to replace the chainmaille casting with real chainmaille so it could fall with gravity when hanging off the side of the steed.

On all my Deathdealer statues and resin kits I have always added the ring to the right side of the Deathdealers helmet to keep it accurate to Frazetta’s painting and vision...finally put the ring to good practical use, I can’t help but wonder if that’s what Frank was thinking.

That's how I felt with Atlantis, DD on a horse, Barbarian, and Virgin of Mahar but if I had known the line wasn't going to continue I probably would have gotten them all.

I passed on the Huntress because it was never one of my favorite Frazetta paintings and awkward size and price just made me pass on it. I also never liked what I call DD showing a little leg and I already had the 1/6 revised and later got the small 1/9 version but after seeing Shedman's 1/4 scale I liked that one too.

I definitely like the revised Death-dealer 3 painting more than the original, didn’t care for the funky helmet horns on the original and liked the chainmaille on the revised...I did take off the funky helmet horns from the statue and replaced it with horns more in line with the revised painting.

Made a fur saddle like padding for the helmet to rest on with something of a scabbard attached for the sword to rest in.

Did an alternate scimitar sword for the Deathdealer and made another sword based on Frazetta barbarian painting to pose wihen using Frazetta’s Conan’s head.

I have a ton of sword letter openers and knife blade blanks. Just looked for the closest one in scale for my project than did a little cutting and grinding and sanding, then made the hilt out of apoxie sculpt fixit.

Looks awesome as always Warhead. The metal is more true to the painting. I don't know if it was an error or what but my two heads have bone on sides and metal spike on top on one and metal horns on side and bone on top with the other. Really should have been all bone on one head and all metal on the other if you ask me.

The spike on the top of helm should not be bone at all IMO...the horns can be bone or metal all depends on the owner preference, I always liked the bone horns in the original head, but once I made metal horns to swap out on the original I found myself not wanting to swap it back to the original bone horns, but it’s great to have the option.

Awesome work! Love this piece, still one of my favorites. I remember the horns were being done differently but there were last minute changes at the request of the Frazettas. There was an early picture shown on one of the forums of the reg head with metal horns. I always see different things when I look at the painting.

I asked also at the time, they said the original painting has bone horns. I dont have a good print of the painting but from what I can tell online, it might be the case. The coloring is a bit different than the spike, but could be shadows I dont know. That was the explanation they gave so I guess it came down from Frank Jr. I always thought they were metal too.

Made a mace/chain weapon to add to the switchout arsenal of Conan the Deathdealer.

Due to the size and weight of the weapon I decided it would look better if the left hand was pointing downward, so I decided to make some extra hands both left and right for the switchout weapons.
I used apoxie sculpt fixit to make the hands, I had to cutoff the left hand then keyed and magnetized to make it a switchout hand, the extra hand that I made was made to point down in the 2:00 to 8:00 position which made the left arm with the heavy weapons such as the Death Hammer the big Axe and the Mace/chain weapon look a lot more relaxed and natural in the pose.

This pic got me thinking about making another hand to show weapon’s pointing down in a more relaxed look, especially with heavy weapons like the Death Hammer, the big Axe or the mace/chain weapon.

Made another switchout head with partial face, made the helmet a little more accurate to the painting, made the horns higher and more parallel and running in line with the eyes.

The statue had a slight tackiness to it and wasn’t joined or connected very well, I fixed all the seams and joints, resanded and re-primered.
The raw sculpt looked really incredible unpainted, I decided to leave him in that virgin condition for awhile and just enjoy the sculpt for what it is.
I also added the metal atlantean sword and it looks really great.

I transposed the numbers. It wasn't 8600 AU it was 6800, which is $4610 US. Still a lot more than the $2K I paid for it including shipping.

The 35 is total (according to producer, I asked him) and includes pre-paints and kits. He told me there were going to be 30 pre-paints before so I think that means maybe only 5 kits were made?

Been home with a broken foot for awhile, I was bored and decided to redo the handle and placement of axe to closer match the image comic cover from Nat Jones, I forgot to update this thread.
I made it so he is grabbing bottom of handle instead of midway which pushes the axe itself behind the helmet instead of side of the helmet.
