Compared to Black Canary, the statue appears to be shorter. It is reported to be 1/4 scale.

Two areas of concern:
Will the stockings be the same as Black Canary complete with a groove running at the rear of both legs (hope not)

Will the same factory who made Black Canary be responsibly for Harley Quinn?

Since they still haven't sold out of their first order Stormtrooper EX, I'm assuming this is the original stormtrooper outfit.

As for Captain Phasma, I hope the next movie shows her to be a bad @ss, otherwise I don't see this one selling out anytime soon.

Sideshow is going to obliterate competition bar Prime1. SDCC is going to be a MASSACRE. Sideshow is simply GOATing atm. 1 week later, Prime1 comes and KOs what is left from competition. It is really obvious that threads of other companies have little movement. Sideshow and Prime1 FTW!

Sideshow is simply kicking ass, left and right. Along with Prime1, they are already the undisputed leaders of this hobby. PERIOD.

I really wait to see ECC's new sculpts. This SDCC is a chance for Steve Wang to get on track again after some misses (Fireskull 1/2, some QC issues with Guyver unit etc)

Yeah I like the classic look. Don't mind the artist taking a little bit of liberties but some of it is just too much. Like with SS's Green Goblin. Not a fan at all of that piece.

It's all perspective. For me, their last awesome year was 2014 when they debuted several CotD statues. This year will also see the debut of several new statues in the CotD lineup so it's going to be awesome once again.

So far it's Swampy, RS, Batman Legendary Scale, and Batwoman. Was initially a bit letdown with their modern take on Mags, but with the close ups I'm impressed with the portrait and the little details on the suit and the base.

Yeah I guess. Just as a collector of only Marvel or DC Comic style 1/4 statues there isn't a vast amount of new stuff overall. Batwoman, which is awesome, and then the Wolverine and Magneto.

Don't get me wrong, they have a lot of stuff out and some of it looks amazing - Red Sonja and the COTD stuff in particular, but for budget reasons I don't allow myself to even comtemplate diversifying with more lines than what I've got going.

On the bright side I'll maybe be able to afford that Thanos statue after all...

For as good as SS was last year at SDCC they are as equally bad this year. Nothing great from what I can see. ok pieces but nothing worth the prices they are charging. Only one I will consider is iron man. The magneto is a complete bust. Wolverine is ok. Hopefully prime 1 has some new stuff at their show this month.

These things are getting objectively better across the board because the technology is better. That doesn't mean every aspect is better, or that the newer stuff will be to everyone's taste, but most of the pieces that came out several years ago simply wouldn't hold up. They're revered because of nostalgia. Make a Cap today with those pajama pants the original had, and people would riot. Lots of examples like that.

I agree with parts of this. And I'm not bashing on the CotD line, its detail is top-notch, just not my thing. All I'm saying is by devoting so much time to this line, it takes away resources for them to truly branch out.

Collectors have been asking for numerous different characters across different licenses and we get a rehashed Chewie PF, 3 (I think) different releases of the PF droids, another Wolverine, another Spider-Man, another Magneto. They keep making the same characters.

Now, with that being said, Thanos looks solid, I have come around on the Deadpool and really like him.

But you can't deny the distribution has grown by a huge proportion. Iron Studios, Prime 1, Hot Toys, Tweeterhead just to name a few.

There is no way I'm about to make a SDCC thread toxic, just stating a viewpoint, nothing else. Back to the show.

I don't see how people spend $600 on characters with no background story. The creativity that went into the cod canale statue is awesome. I think that statue is the best one I have seen at con. COTD isn't a bad brand but it's not well known and doesn't have the history our fav comic characters do. I for one didn't expect so many releases of COTD characters at this comic-con but as a business decision it's a smart move to take advantage of the tons of people going to the con and show off more of your brand and how much details and work when in to creating them. I only plan to buy 1 COTD character and only because it was a absolute beautiful piece that really was well made and had a low ES and was up my alley character wise.

Others sure look really intricate but I can't see myself spending the money on them unless they were cheaper then I feel more people would jump all over their brand, pass down the cost of paying no licensing fee off to your customers :thinking:. But hey if people are willing to pay that price and they sell out why sell it for cheaper. I do feel that they should have had a couple more heavy hitters in regards to popular comic characters but then again we did get a few this year.

From the response so far Swamp Thing seems to be the winner and easily stole the show from other pieces that were expected to be great but really got torn to pieces like Magneto for instance. I also feel Iron Man Mark III will gain more attention as the con goes on since it's a suit so many of us have been craving to own in 1:4 scale. But like many I think the COTD pieces look cool most of the times but they simply aren't statues I would like to own and can you image the boat load of money it would cost to own every single character, lol. But for sure their new Wolverine isn't getting the love it should have got and that's probably because so many people are wanting different characters that weren't rehashed. I think COI made a really good point in another thread I believe about SSC thinking long term and if they made all the characters people wanted then there wouldn't be anything left to do year after year so although your collection is dying for a Flash or a Robin have patience and know one day they will make it and hopefully the wait will be well worth it. I only hope SSC really start working more on QC when producing pieced because some characters come out great while others don't and being more consistent with giving us higher quality pieces would only help their brand grow and get more pieces sold out instead of people waiting for in hand pictures to pull the trigger on an order.

But honestly last years Comic-Con felt better in regards to what SSC showed off. Red Sonja, Hulk vs Wolverine, Bane and Deadpool before his price was annouced, lol. Just to name a few that hyped up the SSC booth last year. Oh and Frank Miller's Batman by Prime 1. The mystery of Thanos on Throne not being done yet was a let down but since they had other stuff to drool over it wasn't too bad.

Quite underwhelmed it has to be said. No new Wonder Woman from SS following the critical and box office success of the movie. No Flash PF is a head scratcher. Some cool pieces but it looks like the CoTD is getting all the attention over there at the moment and it's a line I've no interest in. Will take a look at P1 and IS to see if they have anything of interest.

People project how they feel about the hobby onto the pieces. If you're burned out/tapped out/think things are too expensive/bored, you'll blame it on the pieces. When you're excited/enamored with the hobby/new to the hobby, you project that onto the pieces too and everything is amazing.

These things are getting objectively better across the board because the technology is better. That doesn't mean every aspect is better, or that the newer stuff will be to everyone's taste, but most of the pieces that came out several years ago simply wouldn't hold up. They're revered because of nostalgia. Make a Cap today with those pajama pants the original had, and people would riot. Lots of examples like that.

I can't believe anyone can look at these cotd pieces, or Swamp Thing, and tell me that Sideshow isn't on top of their game. Those pieces may not be to everyone's taste, but how can anyone not see the artistry? How could you even begin to compare something like that Kier to pieces released several years ago?

I only plan to buy 1 COTD character and only because it was a absolute beautiful piece that really was well made and had a low ES and was up my alley character wise.

Take it easy there fella. I did not say the court of the dead were bad. I actually think they are the best statues they make in terms of creativity. I don't see how people spend $600 on characters with no background story. The creativity that went into the cod canale statue is awesome. I think that statue is the best one I have seen at con. Cod statues remind me of something a goth kid would buy at Spencer's gifts.

SS is 50/50 nowadays. For every Thanos and DP you get a death stroke and magneto. Take a look at the P1 environment suit batman, that is killer.

Yes and yet Prime1s 1/4 DC pieces have been a bit on the meh side, Superman meh, Green Lantern looks pretty good except for the head sculpt just looks off, Flash has a great base but his face looks off. And these ate $750 1/4 scale pieces. I think Prime1 does their best at 1/3rd and when they have game models to work from.

Also, sometimes just because you put a character in a creative pose that doesn't mean its the best pose for the character.

Okay, if I were to choose now, it would be Red Sonja PF (of course), Batwoman PF, and Swamp Thing Maquette, which looks, really, really good. Dammit, need to prioritise. Really afraid that Swampy is going to be upwards of 1k :(

Thanos is already mine. Wolverine and Abby Chase are very strong possibilities. I think last years show was a little stronger but still some great stuff this year.

Yesterday was like meeting a super-hot girl in the club, only to wake up the next morning under a pile of hair extensions and makeup-stained sheets.

Seriously though, I think it was a really good showing, but I sobered up today and realized I ain't buying everything. Still, I got like 4 solid pieces out of this show, with a couple others I'm watching, so I'm happy. These days, I don't know that I can afford a much better showing anyway.
