It doesn't look like it was cast directly from ADI's molds to me.I don't think ADI has anything to do with it other than being possibly credited for the original design for licensing sake. Looks like it has castings or copied sculpting from the Micheal Burnett 1/3 scale maquette along with Coolprops own in progress sculpting.

They seem to make pieces based from props they already own or from collector's owned props that they have access to.I don't think they usually team up with the actual FX studios.

It would be nice if Coolprops could confirm.

That's a shame, I actually just bought a big house, space isn't such an issue now, but money is given that I'm paying a mortgage on a big house :laugh: Can't win! This is why I'm hoping CP will reveal the Big chap soon if they are making one. I simply can't afford to buy so much any longer. Easy pass, IMHO, the only true iteration for big chap is the cinemaquette ver as signed by giger himself, and I will the dog,well the sideshow version is definitely faithful as it was lifted off the original rod puppets from ADI, if this was a warrior, would consider, hoping prime1 or XM would try this On 1:3

The head shown attached is much nicer, and the second isn't offering much different, I'd probably ditch the second head option which would remove all worry about a seem and reduce the price.

You guys must have a lot of display space! The way the tail is posed it's going to require some serious real estate!

If they brought the overall height of the tail down towards the body a little more it would be much more space friendly.

I can already envision broken tail tips within months of these being displaying. Whooops!!

You're welcome. This is definitely 1/3, I much prefer the pose on this one to the SS version, but it remains to be seen how the details etc turn out, it looks to have a lot of refinement left to do.

I'll also add that a lot of times those molded castings also have to be simplified to make assembly faster and easier for factory production. In the same way the paint apps need to be simplified for the workers.

This makes me want to start collecting Alien pieces. Coolprops, and two other companies are going to be taking on the Predator license. So glad that other people are going to have a chance to do what someone else has failed at for so many years. It's no longer going to be a one-stop shop for Predator collectors.

This is the best of both worlds for sure. I really love the pose on the dog, so I'm glad it's not being changed and the sculpt is just being improved. I hope they come up with a kick ass base as well!

I agree that the Sideshow version was really nice for its time.... But I also agree that this totally blows it out of the water. I guess P1 have the benefit of a few years advancement in tech and materials etc. And both are from the source, I just like this one a lot more and the detail level isn't even comparable.

There was another head initially (see the first post) no idea whether it will actually be included in the final item however or if they just settled on this more aggressive version. I actually preferred the closed mouth head, but I would be worried about seem lines etc if there was a COH.

I agree with you. Hopefully 2 heads will be given though. Off topic, I honestly see them making a "movie version" of the Big Chap. My god if they can do this for the Dog, imagine the others.

While I love the SS piece, there's always been something off with the head to my eyes.. Too compressed vertically? Who knows. What's weird is that it was based on the ADI rod puppet...

Yeah, The Wolf LSB is one, the PCS Karl Urban Dredd is another and is totally paid off in full. The Prime 1 ID4 1:1 Alien bust is the final one and is one flex payment away from being fully paid. I'm actually very happy with all three of these items and have no desire to cancel them. But if it's the only way to get this Dog and the Coolprops Big chap, I'll do it without thinking too much about it. If I hadn't just bought a new house, it wouldn't be so much of an issue. Bad timing for all of this amazing stuff. Maybe CP and P1 will be nice to us regarding the pricing yet mind.... A man can dream ;)

Yes, the Big Chap is also incredible. I already cancelled one of my POs (T800 maquette), when the new SSC Queen was revealed. No regrets - it's a good time to be an Alien collector (and a bad time to be a collector's wallet/bank account :P)

Very nice, the way Sideshow should of posed theirs. Had the Sideshow back in 2007 but was never able to get used to that pose which together with the colors always reminded me of a huge c*ckroach or something. Finally ended up selling it, will be getting this one for sure super easy order, if they can get the paint something close to this I'm good to go.

Obviously the CoolProps/Prime 1 is far superior in (almost) every way and a true work of alien art.

Something is bugging me though. The shoulder on the P1 piece is so stretchy and lacks intricate detail as well as the biomechanical aspect that the Sideshow version possesses. Now I'm not sure if it was that way in the film, or if it varied from puppet to puppet, or whatever, but it's bugging me.

I'll assume so for now. In which case, it varies between suits, maquettes and puppets as this kind of thing often does. So there is technically no correct or incorrect look. If you wish to find images that match either, you probably won't struggle. This one for example is more inline with the Prime 1 offering. In fact, the rest of it seems to match up fairly well also so this is probably the suit CP & P1 used for refference. Man this thing is so good...

Does anyone in here have any decent insight into Coolprops using Prime 1 (or working with) and the final quality of the peice?

I ask because I was very much considering their recent 1:1 alien head bust because it look ABSOLUTELY STUNNING in the prototype. I mean a head bust just isn't my thing but it looked amazing.

The second I saw an in hand video that was it, I was out without a second thought despite spending many weeks talking myself into taking the plunge. The in hand vs. proto was not just a little different, it looked more like someone was given the prototype and told to try and copy it. And failed. Couldn't believe the difference in the clear dome and so many other details that weren't just lacking, they were completely missing.

For crying out loud the inner jaw didn't even look painted on the final product, I was white with no detailing in the video I saw. I get proto is one thing but I feel ripped off whe the final quality is so significantly different it looks like it could have come from another company.

Really hoping that's not the case on this one. I can handle a step down in quality but if it was to the level of the dog head, at the price this will likely be I would be sooooo disappointed.

The one that I like less is the blue warrior and I think that most of the bad pictures we have seen are because of bad lighting...I don't want to display that bust with lotsxof light around it...I prefer to do it in a darjer place and all thf busts I've seen in these lighting conditions look awesome to me...

In that case, the big chap bust, I am sure that it will be stunning mainly for three reasons:

- big chap has not a bery difficult paintjob...I mean, of course they could make different tonalities of black-grey colour, but it would be difficult to do a bad job there (even if it is less detailed in color, it will look "nice". There aren't plastic tendons (that I find bad executed and with time they turn yellowish...I don't like that), teeth are chromed (no bad paintjob then like in SS lsb big chap bust)
- This is the main piece for coolprops as the big chap is the main representation of Giger's Alien itself. They can't do it bad because it will be very bad for them in the future. If they can't nail their main product, what will they do whith the rest???
-Giger's museum is involved and they will sign each bust as a proove that they are exactely like the original prop...if the give us a piece of..., in which place the original prop will be?

This is just my opinion:) can't wait to see in person my new bust..and can't wait to know more about the maquettes?? Why we still don't have more info about them?

Hi Joel again:) no ofense at all, doubts are normal...today we are used to see awesome products and receive very diferent products at home...there is a lack of quality control and I can't understand this when we are speaking about these prizes...abou differences about the proto and the in hand dog bust, look in youtube the last videos (you will see the transparency of the dome (dog's bust):- lighting conditions make the difference and also, all the people who saws them in person says that they are absolutely awesome:). An exception with the blue warrior where I have read sone bad comments but again, I think that most of the bad thing they say about this one, you can solve them with a different lighting conditions.

Busts were not my thing neither, but you know, have a 1:1 bigchap looking at me in my room has no price for me (well actualy yes, 2300 EUROS! So, despite my opinion, I really hope coolprops will nail it, there is always a doubt but...it has to be AWESOME. I'm not rich to pay this fortune, a lot of effort to pay it, so I expect coolprops put all its effort to do it too)

This lack of interest you are speaking about is caused by the lack of new info and pictures... coolprops has abandoned us...

In the other forum (sideshowfreaks), we only can discuss about how much we think they will ask for the maquettes... we only have 2 videos about the dog alien from the wonderfest and 1 video from the bc maquette (and 5 seconds of the bigchap bust!)...no official photos or pictures, no info about the size, no prizes, no nothing!

For the next time, please all the people who can assist to these events, besides of taking photos, measure the statues too...like this, we will have a litle more to discuss while we wait for the company X to inform us about the rest...lol.

About the dog Alien Joel, we believe that it will take longer because they are waiting for the final approval (anyone could imagine they won't approve this, please send me this, like it is and do it right know..lol), and about the bc maquette, come one coolprops, come back from holidays and put all the info we are waiting for:)

The Cinemaquette Alien was 2 grand several years ago. Sideshow's Dog alien maquette might have been under 1 grand but considering that this one ----s all over it in every regard and is being released many years later guarantees a much higher price.

Personally I think it'll be $2,000, and that would currently be a reasonable price in this hobby.

Technically it's $1500, so even better. I love the closed mouth so I'm happy to pay the extra, but it's nice that they are offering it without for an even better price for those who don't need the second head. I mean the regular is a highly accurate, 1/3 (huge) Dog alien, and it's only $200 more than the Predator 2 maquette was. And this one looks like it just pounced out of the screen! As expensive as this is in reality, you can't really complain relative to today's market.

Yeah, but as far as we know, this is a joint venture as it's coolprops that own the license, not P1. Whether CP would allow Prime 1 to make another version or not is the big question. I doubt they will reveal anything until their own has sold well enough as it's no secret that Prime 1 have a much better reputation for delivering quality items. Revealing a P1 version would no doubt hurt sales of their own immensely.

A better solution might be to have Prime 1 produce the CP version, it would alleviate potential customers concerns. They could even offer a second base more in the style of the Dog...

On the positive side though I can’t see it selling out anytime soon (if ever?). I ask because I was very much considering their recent 1:1 alien head bust because it look ABSOLUTELY STUNNING in the prototype. I mean a head bust just isn't my thing but it looked amazing.

The second I saw an in hand video that was it, I was out without a second thought despite spending many weeks talking myself into taking the plunge. The in hand vs. proto was not just a little different, it looked more like someone was given the prototype and told to try and copy it. And failed. Couldn't believe the difference in the clear dome and so many other details that weren't just lacking, they were completely missing.

For crying out loud the inner jaw didn't even look painted on the final product, I was white with no detailing in the video I saw. I get proto is one thing but I feel ripped off whe the final quality is so significantly different it looks like it could have come from another company.

Really hoping that's not the case on this one. I can handle a step down in quality but if it was to the level of the dog head, at the price this will likely be I would be sooooo disappointed.

I am so disappointed with cool props! I ordered the blue alien life size head.... what a piece of crap. looked way better in pictures. I returned it... cost me 200$ in S&H. I was so upset! then the fiasco with the LSB wolf... cancelled that in time... right now I am very worried with the quality of anything SS is carrying right now.... even Prime1!!! (I have g1 Megatron & Optimus which look great) Ireally want to pick this up but at 1700$? I just do not trust Cool Props to deliver
so I PO'D XM's predator. I am sure it will be amazing. and I will wait 2 years for them to do an alien...

Coolprops IS NOT involved in the production of the Dog. It's collaboration because CP holds the Alien License. Prime 1 has a proven track now and deliver "what you see is what you get". Of course they're not perfect but no need to be apprehensive. I would agree if it were just CP producing this. But again, Coolprops is not involved in the production. Going the XM route you will get stylized, but if that's your thing then cool.

I personally think the price is much too high even by Prime 1 standards. I was on the fence since I dont really have any Alien/Predator items beyond Machiko, but hats off to everyone who ordered.Price too high? Damn man, they could have gone over $2k and that would still have been acceptable in today's collectible market.


The truth is, if it comes out looking like that, (and knowing Prime 1 it likely will) it's a steal. This is without a doubt the most impressive licensed alien statue ever created.

Are we 100% sure Prime 1 will be fully in charge of the QC?
