Not sure of the legalities, but he was legally able to sell the art prints for the 4 years he did them.

She has freckles still. On the enlarged photo you can see them on her shoulders and face. I too love the freckles, so I was stoked to see them there :)

I was just going on and on about how Campbell's style is nearly impossible to pull off in sculpture; this is the best Campbell-based statue I've ever seen by far, in terms of capturing the art, particularly with the portrait.

The first statue from the JSC Spiderman line was Mary Jane. I believe it was somewhere around 5,000 MJ statues and it took a while for SSC to sell them.

The Gwen Stacey and Spiderman statues came out later and IIRC, both of them ended up getting a smaller estimate. My memory is fuzzy on the details though, it's been at least a couple years since then.

Anyway, excited for the Little Mermaid statue. I'm a sucker for all things JSC!

Think they'll remain stuck with the "classic" "gentle" prints.

That said SSC shows they are the best to create JSC work in 3D.

Just hope a print will be offer with each statue

Holy Moses.

I was just going on and on about how Campbell's style is nearly impossible to pull off in sculpture; this is the best Campbell-based statue I've ever seen by far, in terms of capturing the art, particularly with the portrait.

Amazing job whoever sculpted this.

If there are Premium Art Prints, I would hope they would differ dramatically from JSC's original Fairytale Fantasy prints. I own all of those prints and they cost a pretty penny overall and I would hate to see Sideshow take the easy route and just issue reprints of Campbells prints, just in Sideshow's Premum Print form. That would hurt the value of the original prints and we have already had enough of this kind of thing in the comic market due to Aspens actions the last few years! I hope you guys will take that into account if doing reprints ever comes up.

I disagree. Just look at the new Aspen piece. She basically has a completely bare rear end. Panties are tame compared to Aspen's Fathom. I don't think Sideshow has any problem with this topic as long as its done tastefully. And all of Campbell's Fairy Tale art prints are tastefully done.

Speaking of which, does anyone know if Campbell is going to continue on with his Fairytale Fantasies collection? We haven't seen any new prints since 2014. Would love to see him continue on with this line.

Each year he produced them, we saw a significant rise in edition size. He removed the 2014 prints from his store page like 6 months back and there were still as many as 60-70 copies left for many of the prints. Who knows, maybe he sold the remainder of the 2014 to some print dealer for a significant discount. Either way, that is one line of prints I was really looking forward to see continue on.

i don't think SSC has those kind of problems too ;) i just wonder what could be the line they won't / can't cross.

but don't focus on panties, suggested ideas with werewolf honey and bears are another lvl.

I know lots of collectors concern about femanle statue and what they can/want to display at home or not.

I would actually prefer TWO different statues - One the true Snow White Evil Queen, the other a true Maleficent.

Is the shadow of the hair on her forhead painted on?

In the original art there's a loose section of hair which casts a shadow on her face. The shadow is also there on the statue, but I can't see that the section of hair jas been sculpted to cast said shadow.

There is no copyright with Grimm's Fairy Tales, The only thing Disney could copyright is the look of their version of the characters (clothes and such). As long as they don't look exactly like Disney's version of the characters then there is no Copyright issues.

I know it's a fine line Campbell walked but his versions are just different enough to avoid legal issues.

I'm not sure if you guys know this, but Disney actually contracted him to do ACTUAL Disney art prints. I have all of them. I think his work on the Fairytale Fantasies is probably why they hired him to do actual Disney prints.

They even sold those in the Disney art store downtown disney / disney springs. Wonder why they would give him a hard time making the disney princesses unless its that they would only want them in their store...

Most people don't realize than many of Disney's films/characters are public domain or based on public domain. Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Tarzan, Hercules, Alice in Wonderland, Chicken Little, Frozen, Little Mermaid, Mulan, Pinocchio, Pocahontas, Robin Hood, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, etc. Dynamite is another company that has made a killing off of using public domain as many of their comics use public domain characters. Same for Zenescope.

Of course! The only x-factor is the what's expected with the definition of well...
Hopefully they do a couple original statues/prints with him as well. Turning up the risqué factor is a great way to do that.

As far as copyright Disney has basically been feeding Campbell for the past 2 years so I doubt they would have to threaten any copyrights to sway his or even Sidehow's minds if they perceived a threat to their image regardless of public domain.

I have actually been pretty unhappy with what Campbell's been producing the past 2 years because it has all been focused on variant covers which I detest and an endless array of Marvel only. Despite annual promises he hasn't even taken the time to release another Fairytale Fantasy Calendar since 2014!

And not that it's statue material but this would indulge just about every fantasy I've ever had...

I actually think these pieces will do better at 1/5 because of the lower price point. This line is the kind of thing people will jump on impulsively because it's not based on movies or comics or whatever, it's purely about the art. If they can keep the price in the $300s, lots of people will say 'screw it' and order, but if you make them 1/4 and charge $500+, people will tap out.

I can't see scale hurting these pieces if price is an issue, if 1/5 is 400 that people absolutely detest on this forum. 1/4 would be 500 and it would turn so many people, therefore entire threads, negative. Simply put: the given price and adored art are not seen as equals here.

1/5 is perfect,, 1/4 would need more detailing and cost would rise,, also if they are planning more than 3. 1/5 would be pleasing to the eye and easier to display together than scatter the whole room with more than 4 or 5 1/4 scaled statues of sexy girls lol
