I kind of "accidentally" stumbled upon this great lighting solution for IKEA cabinets. I was looking for something to light up some artwork in a hallway and these worked great for that, but... they also worked great for my statues!

http://52.201.121.212/bookcase.jpg

These are LED wirless lights (take 6 AAA batteries per light) and they are either constant on or motion activated on.

The picture above is with ALL lights off in the room except for the LED lights in the bookcase.

If anyone has any interest in the lights I got them from amazon here:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N74K076/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The lights can be attached with either screws or with a 3M Magnetic Strip. And since the strip is magnetic you can pull away the actual metal piece from the strip if you need to change batteries down the road or something.

Where in the case did you position the light? Back, middle, or front?

Thanks for the links :)

Don’t knock batteries, just means no ugly cords to hide or power outlets needed. Much more aesthetically pleasing IMO.

I thought so too. Until I got tired of replacing batteries once a week.

I wouldn’t use the light enough to require constant battery replacement. I like batteries far more than distracting, ugly cords. Clean, sleek, and functional is always a plus is my accessory book.

That take a lot of batteries (6AAA).

I have the IKEA Ansluta remote control which I have the omlopp LED lights for my display cases. It's mounted on my wall and one touch of the button turns all my cases on & off. Only uses two AAA batteries. Though you will need to buy the Ansluta electronic transformers and cord. The upside though, you can have multiple transformers and it syncs to 1 remote. Hate going to cases and manually turning on the lights.

Cords are hidden at the back so there is no distraction.

For the OP, you have 15 cubes times 6 AAA batteries. That's a lot of $$ wasted on batteries purchases. I also find the light too bright.

If you have a lot of cubes, like I assume you guys do - I can see the cost issue.

For me, I have two units bc I converted a glass door IKEA bar to my display case. So it’s cheap and easy for me. I had been looking for an easy option and this is perfect for my display set-up.

I have 30 cubes and couple billy cases all powered by 4 transformers and 1 remote. It's so convenient have the remote mounted on a wall. When I go into the room, one click and everything goes on. It also has 2 light features (dim & bright).

The life of the batteries (since they are motion activated) will last quite a while. And they aren't too bright -- they are just bright enough to show the entire statue and details without overpowering.

Only problem is it shows all the smudges on the glass :-)

I've located the lights in the front all the way up to the front edge.

As for cost, 48 batteries costs me approximately $20 when I shop around for deals, and I expect the batteries to last a very long time, but since these are new I'll have to wait to see how long they last. The lights themselves will last 50,000 hours -- not sure about battery life tho.

I’m not sure how long Amazon branded batteries last compared to the name brands, but you can get 100 AAA for $20.

Problem with batteries they have a tendacy to leak. Rather go with a plugin then batteries if giving a choice

I've never had a battery leak that I'm aware of and I'm early 40's -- so risk I'm willing to take :-)

Worse case scenario if that happens is I have to replace the light and it isn't very expensive.

I've had batteries corrode, but that was due to my laziness in replacing them OR removing them all together from the object I was no long using.

Thanks for letting me know you put them in the front, Names :thumbs2:

Could you update this when you have to change batteries? I am curious on how long this will last not being continuous use.

I originally purchased some wireless LED puck lights from Costco. Each used 3 AA batteries. I didn’t run them continuously but enough every time I was in my man cave every week that a couple were out by the end of the second week.

I would think that with LED lights, it would be more cost effective to use than battery powered, but the exposed wire thing would bother me quite a bit. I’m still trying to figure out a lighting system for my office.

Batteries are no good.
Even when not having them on constantly. 1 hour a day and you get a month of battery life Possibly. Maybe more or less. But they drain very quickly.

if the statue is nice you dont notice the wires ;-)
there are billions of possibilities to hide wires. In my case I just put a white tape over the wire in the white cube. Also if you want high end cabines the Ikea system isnt the nices way. then you have to use full glass cabines to get a 100% and 360 view.
Anyway... to keep it short for my the batterie is no option cause the change of batteries, the turn on and off problem and I also see the "for environmental reasons" a lot of people dont care.

I tried the battery powered LED route in the past, I could only get 3 days of battery life out of them after running them for only 2 hours a night. I'll never go back to battery powered ever again.

Screw remotes and batteries. I've been looking into setting up some system that can connect to my Hue lights, which I have set on a programmed schedule.

I would love to simply put the lights on a schedule so that they'd turn on at night. Currently the Hue strip lights are way too expensive.

Programmable outlet(s) could be the cheapest. I've never gone this route because I don't need my lights turning on if I'm not even there.

All my display lights are on remote controlled outlets. Set up in zones or all on at once. I love it.

I agree, I prefer direct power strips vs batteries. The way I have my setup, I have a motion sensor in my office (via SmartThings) and a Smart Plug (Wemo Smart Plug) and I use the strips below on Amazon, very cheap solution. As soon as motion is detected, the lights turn on, when I leave my office, they turn off.

Light Strips: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00XJKOCBG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s03?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Wemo Smart Plug:

You can also use the Wemo Smart Plug and the strips above and run them on a schedule.

I run the cables (which are thin) inside the display, against the corner and cut a small hole out the back, you can barely see them. I use the Besta model from Ikea as well.

Just chiming in. The light strips are still working wonderfully with no change of batteries.

Ran out of room in my PAX and have to start putting statues on top. Need some good lighting ideas, LED strips wont work, so would an LED lighting fixture work, those would be the least harmful to the statues correct?

House beat me to it. That's pretty much what I'm using but were purchased through Connecticut Lighting Center. Mine were a bit more expensive then Amazon but look the same. Have had 0 issues.

I plan on doing some custom track lighting when I inevitably win the lottery in the near future. ;)

Bought them years ago at a gift shop that was going out of business. But I used LED light strips I bought off Amazon. They came in 2 8 foot strips so I bought 3 of them and ran the strips down each side of the display. Work great.

Thanks for the idea. I am trying to do top down lighting, but have a pitched ceiling or else those pucks would work. I'm looking at getting this track lighting from ikea

https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60262923/

and installing dimmable bulbs with a remote control.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075SF1N6G/?coliid=IWHK1HQICTEO1&colid=N1HCL19MCENE&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

Hoping this will allow me to T off from my ceiling fan and use the track lighting separately. Turn off ceiling fan light and use track light or turn off track light bulbs and use ceiling fan during the day.

its a few months before I need the lighting, so if it does work i will update.
