If they sculpt it thin unlike the sideshow cape they should be ok. That one was crazy, something like 6 pounds.

Really interested in this. I´m looking for a Superman for a long time now and was considering the Prime 1 Hush Superman, but after seeing the full reveal, I didn´t like it very much, and this one by IS will be far cheaper for me. Here is hoping the prototype is already painted at CCXP.

I'm also gonna be watching this one. Prime 1 Superman was a total let down so hopefully this one will do the trick. I like that his face has that classic Superman look, at least in the concept art. Prime 1 looks like the Punisher to me, and definitely not like Lee's work.

I like the P1 Supes, but I'm also looking forward to seeing this. I love Ivan Reis's comic work, but the IS statue artworks so far have had some awkward elements (such the Batman's arm positioning, which IMO only looks good with that uncharacteristically lethal looking giant batarang, which I'd otherwise never display) almost as if they were drawn after the concepts had been finalized, much like how many criticized Sideshow's Supergirl PF for not looking like Artgerm's artwork, resulting in Sideshow rushing to commission Artgerm to draw a Supergirl print matching the statue's pose and facial structure.

Sorry to :deadh: but I mentioned that as a means of complimenting this Superman concept, which looks as organic as it is dynamic, probably Reis's best work for IS since the 1:10 Aquaman or the 1:6 Supes vs. Doomsday diorama.

Yeah, I also like the Prime 1 Superman, but I don´t love it. And considering how much a Prime 1 statue costs for me over here, liking is just not enough. I also agree with Batman. The sculp is really good and I really love the base, but I don´t feel his pose is organic and sometimes looks a little awkward.

I´m curious about what they will do with the DC 1/3 scale license after Superman is done, if they will make more characters or focus on other licenses/scales. Personally, a Reis Aquaman in 1/4 or 1/3 scale would be one of my biggest grails.

If they hold true to the art that has been shown, then I will take the P1 piece by a wide margin. Not a fan of the New 52 designs at all and it looks to have some of this design incorporated into it. Also, that base is very uninspired.

I have IS 1/4 scale Vader and think it's a great piece, probably the best Vader I've seen done. Was really hoping they did something special for Supes, but I just don't see it in that concept art.

No doubt. Reis had an epic Green Lantern run, but he was born to draw Aquaman. I would love to see either.

My love for IS varies between lines (engineering issues with the smaller pieces I have and, while I never owned Spider-Man, the paint issues at least were apparent on that first 1:4 comic piece from in-hand photos) but I applaud their ambition on all of them.

Vader is magnificent, I'm beyond happy to report (love mine) but they were working very closely with tangible source material, whereas their non-movie pieces are based on drawings. They have more room to fail, but that Punisher leads me to believe the company-wide crisis reports that ballooned from the aforementioned Spidey were great exaggerated.:D

You're likely right. Maybe they will test the waters with the more widely available Batman variant and continue from there. I'm curious as to what IS's licensing structure is for DC. I love 1:3 scale, but Prime 1 seem to do it almost out of necessity due to Sideshow gridlock on 1:4. Yet, Sideshow grants IS worldwide distribution on what I'd imagine are more prohibitively expensive Disney Star Wars and Marvel 1:4 pieces. Especially with Vader's quality, I'd also love some 1:4 DC to mix in with my Sideshow PFs one day.

Prime 1 has the classic spandex look where Iron Studios gave him a more modern outfit made out of some advance material.

I'm not crazy about the belt on Iron Studios, those red loops for the belt are huge.

I'll have to see more pics but my initial reaction is that I like it. Portrait is miles better than P1, which looks more like the Punisher to me. I like the dynamic pose and sculpt better too. Don't really care for the shiny blue "plating" around the S but rest of the costume is really nice. Sculpted cape is a win. I like the base but I think the crystals should be molded in clear and have a green/clear color selectable led. Kyrptonite is an intergral part of who Superman is, so I kinda get why it's there, but doesn't make sense around a strong pose. If it were color changing those who don't like the Kyrptonite could have clear crystals instead.

gearhead
12-08-2017, 11:16 AM
Or at least just mold the crystals clear so when they're off they look like crystals and not Kryptonite.

I still don´t know how I feel about the suit, would probably prefer a more classic look, but the head sculp looks really nice. People on the group were talking that the crystals were not painted the right way on the prototype and they will look less green in the final piece, since it´s suppose to look like ice and not like kryptonite, but this information is not official. Anyway, looks like official pics will be revealed soon.

The problem with this suit design is what it looks like, armour. Superman doesn't need armour.

Jesse Custer
01-09-2018, 10:59 PM
My biggest problems with it are the pose, which I´m not crazy about, and the suit, specifically the large and shining blue "stripe" (don´t know if it´s the right word here) under his right arm. But I think both of these problems could be resolved with a switch out right arm which is not upwards, so the blue stripe is more hidden underneath the arm, like on the left side.

I have no idea what the switch outs will be, the only one confirmed is a change of head with heat vision, but IS usually includes a lot of swith outs in their bigger pieces, so I´m a little hopeful.

Someone on one of the Facebook groups suggested that an alternate portrait option should've been Superman looking up to better match the flying pose, similar to the original Thor Premium Format. I'd have to agree, as I'm not liking the smiling or heat vision sculpts here from what I can see/saw in a previous pic of the latter.

http://cdn.pcwallart.com/images/superman-flying-up-wallpaper-4.jpg

The regular portrait however is close to phenomenal. I'd have to paint the eyebrows a shade darker to better match the hair. The discrepancy highlights how "solid" the hair looks compared to how natural they painted the skin, which looks amazing.

I'm a little surprised at the lack of apparent interest in this guy. I don't know if it's the updates to the costume, the price, the size, or a combination of the three. Maybe it's just not on enough peoples radar. As far as the suit goes, I can understand why some would be put off by certain elements, but overall he still looks very much like Superman to me. More so even than Sideshow's which is also modernized and dosen't have the undies. Like I said before, if I end up not liking the suit in hand I don't think it would be too tough to customize into fully classic. This is also likely to have a pretty low ES, which dosen't matter at all to me but certainly does to some others.

There are just too many things I don't like about this piece.

The belt.
The crazy big belt loops.
Black hair but brown eyebrows? Looks weird.
There's a gruffness to the portrait that I don't associate with Superman.
The uninspired base.
I prefer a less bulky Supes, but with good musculature, like the new SS PF.

Fair enough, I totally get it. I don't like the belt loops either. Like the face sculpts better though, and there's 3. Eye brows don't bother me at all and would be very easy to fix if they did. I can't get past the nose and chin on Sideshows. Like this base better too. I like that it's more generic instead of character specific. Sculpted cape > fabric cape. And no undies, no deal. But variety is the spice of life, I'm glad we have choices!

The brown eyebrows make his hair look too starkly black.

gearhead
02-12-2018, 05:42 PM
Well, his hair is supposed to be black. If the brows look too light in person it would be an easy fix. I doubt it will be a problem for me. Still, I think IS is closer to your ideal than any of the others currently out. The original SS Supes is still the best face sculpt. BTW what is that render from? It is really good.

It's from Marthin Agusta's Artstation page. He sculpted XM's Catwoman, Dark Phoenix, and Poison Ivy.

A Adams/Byrne/Reeves is the Superman I see in my minds eye.

oh and Lee I also really like Lee's Superman.

The image 'mint posted is really nice. I instantly feel Superman. The jawline can use a little work imo but it looks really good.

I think the portrait in the middle is good. I totally see Superman. I’m not crazy about the other two. The laser eye thing just doesn’t translate well for me and the smiling one just seems strange. I’m also not crazy about the outfit. It’s ok but certain elements bother me. In the end it’s a pass for me because it’s 1/3. If it were quarter scale it would be a much tougher decision.

gearhead
02-12-2018, 09:32 PM
For me the jury is still out on the smiling portrait. All the pics we've seen are at an angle looking up from below his chin. Makes it difficult to know what it really looks like. But this pic, while still from below, makes me think it might be pretty good. We need a shot looking straight on.

Lot of activity over on the P1 Superman thread. Don't want to rain on their parade over there so I'm over here. So glad I have this IS version on order. Every time I look at the pics I like it more. Every time I look at the P1 I like it less. Don't get me wrong, I think P1 did a great job, I just don't like the style. I get the appeal of the classic costume but to me that's all it has going for it. When I look at the IS I see Superman, despite the costume tweaks. When I look at the P1 I don't see Superman, despite the classic costume. Weird I know. Seems I'm in the minority on this, and that's OK. I'm glad we have both to choose from. Plus, if it stays on schedule, I'll have mine a year earlier!

The heat vision portrait looks like he's wearing some sort of funky red sunglasses....

French Cancan
03-13-2018, 07:29 AM
Why Clark Kent could not be just a little bit funky? :)
I do rather prefer this Superman than Prime 1 Supes . I prefer everything, in fact. The base, the pose, and the heads. The heads because they are less « comics like » and well proportionned.
And maybe because I’m an ignorant, I don’t really care about the costume. Classic, not classic... He is wearing an elegant costume. Like Clark is supposed to wear one.

I really like those pictures. The belt loops were the only thing holding me back on this piece, but they’re starting to bother me less.

I don’t understand how this and the Prime 1 Hush Superman went up for sale around the same time, but Prime 1’s won’t ship for nearly a year after this guy.

Still on the fence as to which 1/3 Superman to get .... P1 Hush or Iron Studios

They both have their pros and cons. For example the Hush Superman head sculpt still looks small after the tweaks from P1. The Iron Studios Superman could use same improving on the heat vision head sculpt. However it's proportions heads body are better then the Hush Superman.

I´m trying to focus my collection in fewer lines and buy only characters that have a personal meaning to me, so I´m dropping some statues and lines that I think would be "impulsive buys".

This Superman keeps growing on me. He has a very imposing presence and the costume, which was initially a negative point for me, doesn´t bother me anymore and I´m actually starting to like it, just wish that there was more pictures with the smiling portrait. I´m also looking forward to see more of IS´s Darkseid, which I think will look great with the rest of the line.

I’ve went back and forth on this quite a bit. I ultimately decided not to drop $1K on something I’m not completely satisfied with. I wish they had just kept the costume classic.

I'm not getting this, but it looks amazing. THe price point while not cheap is still very good compared to others in the industry. I have a Iron Man 1/2 scale and practically same height.

this has a more dynamic pose thus wont get old after a while.

The grimace and the eyes look totally Ron Lim Thanos. I want a Thanos portrait like that now.

I'd like to know what people who got the statue feel about him when he arrives. I was really skeptical about the costume and the pose, but after seeing him at 2017 CCXP and again in the last month, I think he is my favourite of all 1/3 realeases by IS, and that's counting Hawkman too. He has a huge presence and looks so good.

I didn't like the Superman in the black suit though. I think he looked better in pictures.

But if it does suck who cares, the other two are awesome. The base came out really good too. I know the suit puts some people off but it's the right colors in all the right places, and combined overall with the pose and sculpt this is by far my favorite 1/3 Superman. Can't wait!

Honestly no idea. Hey maybe some of you can help me out. This will be my first and last piece of this size. Was planning on placing it on top of a secretary type desk with a narrow top (12" in depth). Do you see issues with stability? I have no idea how these things handle and with Supes only supported by one of his feet, it's making me nervous. Since it's delayed by 90 days I may be able to cancel without losing the deposit, if displaying is an issue.

Man I'm jealous of that Trinity display! May I ask what you are using to display them on? Too bad I'll never have the room or budget for all three. This Superman is pretty much endgame for me.

Sideshow dropped the ball on my order. After sending me an email saying they would charge the last payment and ship this past Monday, I discovered that they postponed it by a whole month.
