Found a place in Miami with REALLY excellent Glass Cube Shelves at a reasonable price, and thought I would share it with the forum

www.slstoredisplays.com

These are the units that my LCS uses and they look AMAZING!!

I will be buying my shelves tomorrow and will post pics as soon as I can.

Cap ... I spoke with one of the girls there today and she told me that they have a huge showroom with these and more and they do sell to the public.

They're around the industrial park behind Dolphin Mall, but are only open 8 to 5 week days.

And for anyone that asks, yes they do deliver both in FL and around the US as well.

How much weight does each shelf hold?

Jesse321
10-05-2005, 11:35 AM
Up to 20 pounds ... I asked that too, the Juggernaut statue worried me. The girl did tell me to display that one as close to the corner for more support rather than centered ... but it is tempered glass.

The problem with Juggernaut is that he needs to be up high.

That one would be on my bottom shelf. :DThe smaller units (12X12 glass) are sturdier, but I'm electing for 16X16 for better display.

He's on top of my glass display but on the wooden top shelf. I'd like to get a good heavy duty glass display with 1/4" glass to take the weight.

Cool! I've been looking for something like this for a while. I guess there are potential issues with Dust. Would def. have to go for the 16" set....or could you stack the 12" to make a 24" high case?

Is this display open front or open back?

I was thinking that since the sites I posted sell the brackets/connectors that you could build your own cubes if you pick up some tempered glass.

Jesse321

It's both open back and open front ... I was assured that it would support the weight of the statues as is (by both the vendor and the owner of my LCS, who has these exact shelves), but I elected to spend a few more bucks and order extra glass and hindges to close off the back ... just for my own piece of mind.

Looks great Jesse. I'm sold on these. I like the fact that every direction is glass, so there is no obstruction from different viewing angles. Once I finish my basement, I'm getting some of these.

P.S. - Those Invaders sure do look lonely. Let's hope BD makes some company for them.

Jesse those look awesome. I may wind up ordering some of these. Have you thought about getting the hinges and completely clsoing these off with glass doors? Did they have any on display like that and how much more work is it?

Very cool jesse well done... I think you have started a graze on the cube front.

You should claim some sort of commission for the sales you have created for this store.

And maybe if you others guys got together and put in a bulk order for them you might be able to see what type of discount you could get for your order its worth a try.

if each cube can hold x amount of weight, does that mean that if you stack the shelves, the shelves on lower tiers are actually holding too much weight?
Gerry

Jesse321
10-21-2005, 11:19 AM
Gerry ... I have my heaviest pieces on the top of the units, and so far so good.

And the guy at my LCS has even more stuff in them than I do, so I would hazard to say that it can hold it, but personally, that's one of the reasons that I added the extra backing on to it, just for added security.

There's a guy on eBay who sells these ( I believe he cuts the glass himself - He can make special sizes if you want ) and his displays can hold a wheel rim!

Scroll down to the auction pics and click on the thumbnail showing the window display.

Hey, those cubes look great. I didn't know about them when I started collecting so I went with glass cable shelves. Originally got them from Pottery Barn but needed to add a few more because my collection is about to grow. Found the same thing at Stacks & Stacks online store.

I tried to upload some pictures of my shelves and statues but the "Uploading File(s)" status came up and never finished. Maybe I haven't been on the forum long enough to be able to upload images or maybe I didn't do it right.

Anyhoo, here is a link to the online store...
