Set-up:
Typically, interviews ask you the same questions. Favorite sculpt, who you want to sculpt and so on. We think that if they want your bio, they can Google it. Let's get into the questions we really want to know. The stupid ones...OK, we'll throw a couple of work-related ones in there.

Alejandro is from Spain and a long-time forum member. He has done quite a few sculpts for the industry which you can check out on his website. His work is pretty amazing and it's cool that he's spending a little time doing this.

1- If you were a bird, which one would you be and why?
Raven, because they have a lot of intelligence and Odin had two ravens “Huginn” (Thought) and Muninn (Memory or Mind)

2- You find out you weren’t born in Spain but in Latin America, which country is it?
Well, I think Argentina, I have a lot of friends there.

3- You can only sculpt one more thing, what would it be and why?
Superman, everything started with Superman in my case (comics, drawing, sculptures…) and it make sense that it would be my last sculpture…

4- First job you ever had?
I was guitar player but next question please… Haha

5- Most difficult sculpt you ever did?
Maybe Batman vs Harley Queen battle statue. It was really hard because the details, the composition and the dynamism of the scene.

6- If you had to sculpt a non-pop culture statue, what would it be?
Mythological statues.

7- Real Betis or Sevilla?
Well, here we need a little of the background about the Spanish football or Soccer. In Spain, there are 2 main teams, Madrid and Barcelona. They are well known around the world, but, here In Seville (Andaluc-a) there are only 2 teams. Betis or Sevilla. It is like River –Boca, or Milan-Inter, talking about competition. So then, I support Betis of course, (in this area, you're born supporting Betis or Sevilla) but I love Barcelona too.

8- Tortilla española or dinner rolls?
I'm not even going to acknowledge that question... Hahaha

9- What got you interested in sculpting?
I love how I can create everything from my imagination. In my case, I grew up reading comics and I love how I can recreate that 2D vision into a real-world 3D image.

10- Car: Stick shift or automatic?
Stick Shift of course. I like the feeling that I can control my own car, not the opposite.

11- What did you have for breakfast today?
Just coffee and toast. Here in Spain our breakfast is very light, not like in USA.

https://cdna.artstation.com/p/assets/images/images/007/965/198/large/alejandro-pereira-rs04.jpg?1509609138

12- Most difficult aspect of working for a company in the USA while living overseas?
To be honest, I didn't have too much of a problem. Well, just the idiom. If you are a professional and you act like a professional, I think that it is easy. I am very lucky because I built a good network of clients.

13- Steak or fish?
Steak, but I am trying to eat more fish and I really enjoy it.

14- What sculptor inspired you the most?
As I mentioned, I grew up reading comics. My inspiration and influences come from there. Then, my case is not a sculptor, it's an illustrator, Alex Ross. After “Kingdom Come”, everything changed…

15- What project(s) are you currently working on?
Right now, I am doing several things for DST and other secret projects for other companies.

16- What was the last statue/bust that you sculpted?
Brown Wolverine…I love this character.

17- Vacation: beach or mountains?
Beach, but I love mountains. In my case, I have the beach very close.

18- Pets?
Of course!!! I have cats and one dog. I love animals (yes I need to eat less meat). I have a passion for the cats to be honest, I love them.

19- If you weren't working in this industry, where do you think you would've ended up?
Maybe as a guitar player in a band or maybe in Ikea building furniture. In fact, it is a true story… I really love Ikea! But next question please, these are stories for another day …

20- You have the ability to get your own license, which one would it be (can’t be Disney or WB)?
Well, I think that right now the industry is over saturated with licenses. There are a lot of Marvel ,DC and Disney products… It is time to do different things, maybe your own IP license.

21- What vegetable best describes you and why?
Spinach because I don´t like it!!! Hahaha!!!
Yes, I am my worst enemy…

22- Dream vacation spot?
Oh, I would like to visit a lot of places but to be honest, my dream vacation spot is to visit the pyramids in Egypt…

23- Any personal projects that have you excited?
Right now, I am really excited because after more than 10 years working in the creation of collectibles, I am starting my own company with my brother, named Gods and Mythos Collectibles.
We are doing a Mythological Line in a ¼ scale, something like I did years ago but this time under our own vision.
We will release the first 2 prototypes soon and we are currently working on the next characters.
I think that people will love this new line. We are putting a lot of love and passion, and good taste, I think…
Hope people can support us in this new adventure…
Glad you asked this question. :buttrock:

24- How difficult is it to say to yourself, “OK, this sculpt is done”?
Well, it is super difficult. In the case of the sculpture that I am doing for Gods and Mythos, I have spent more than 3 months just because for me, it was not finished… But, this is a special case because I am my own art director and these are like personal projects, like my children.
Having said that, you need to put in a balance with all the different things such as deadlines, money, family etc and always try to work on different projects at the same time to keep your mind fresh.
But yes, while working for companies, 80% of the cases the art director will tell you “OK, we are done…”

25- Finally, a lot of heroes you've done but any sculpting horror pieces?
Oh, I love horror movies. I did a few years ago a Frankenstein for Mezco, it was really fun.

Definitely yes!!!! I would like to have the opportunity to work on them some more. Thank you everyone!!!!

5- Most difficult sculpt you ever did?
Maybe Batman vs Harley Queen battle statue. It was really hard because the details, the composition and the dynamism of the scene.

I still think it's one of the most beautiful pieces I've ever seen. It was a real shame production issues let it down.
