My favorite indy character was Mike Baron's & Steve Rude's Nexus, who used to appear in Capital Comics and First Comics. Dark Horse picked them up.

Grendel (Hunter Rose and Christine Spar). I have the 1st 3 issues of the Hunter Rose version published by Comico, black and white from the early 80's.

Also a fan of the 1st 3 story arcs of Elfquest by Warp Graphics. These were also black and white issues.
